Had some help from dis'ers in the themepark forum..

Wanted to see if anyone had some reviews for Captain's Grill.

Not sure if it's worth giving up my Sci-Fi adr to try and get one for CG in it's place.

Any advice???

I would love some feedback as well!

We go to Disney often, live close and have tried numerous restaurants. I decided this trip to try a few different ones and return to some of our favorites. Captain's Grille was a new one for us. (I have written about this experience before so some may have already heard this!) This was "supposed" to be my DHs birthday dinner. Noticed I said "supposed to be..." After we were greeted by a very nice hostess, she took us to a seat that was right by the kitchen door. I worked at Disney in college (ok, it was a long time ago..lol), but I know what it means to work there and how you are to treat customers. She was sweet and readily agreed to move us to a better table. She found one quickly, the restaurant was not crowded at all) and as we went to sit down, the restaurant's manager started SCREAMING at her that she COULDN'T SIT anyone there...on and on and on. Of course, it not only embarrassed us, the hostess was mortified. He wouldn't stop...made her feel so bad and so she led us to yet another table that was fine. Needless to say, I wasn't feeling the Disney Magic and went to speak to the front desk, who led me happily to the manager's boss! I spoke to her and she listened and promptly pulled him out of the restaurant to speak to him. He was gone a long time..lol Funniest part of this story is he did eventually come back....whistling and singing and asking every single table EXCEPT for us how their dinner was...never an apology, nothing. He was so rude and I was fuming. We paid big money for this dinner, my husband's birthday dinner and even though the food was good, this ruined it for us. We ended up going to our favorite place, Jiko at AKL, the next night, celebrated THAT night as his BD dinner and had a wonderful time and even the manager was so friendly and nice and talked with us a long time at the table just to chat. I did email WDW when we got home about Captain's Grille and they did personally call me back and apologize and said they would look into it further. So.....we won't be returning there and I hope the manager had to take lessons on how to speak to people and how to treat customers. I picture him in classes on customer relations but not finding a place to sit..

Sounds like you may have run into the same manager that Kevin & John had when they went there to do their PodCast dining review although I'd be surprised if he still works anywhere at Disney.

Yes, it probably was the same one. After it happened, I found out about the other reviews. He was so mean that night and I was so ticked that he was right back on the floor singing away...lol When Disney called back, I wasn't home, but the message sounded like they would take care of it. I'd be interested to know what they ever did about it, though.

We really liked captains grill. On our last trip we went twice. But that was because we hand't gotten ADR's. I had forgot about adding the DDP 9 months before. So, we were left scrambling for places to eat. We were staying at the boardwalk. It was a nice walk around to the yacht club for dinner. The pork chops and steaks are both good. I preferred the pork chop, my wife got it the first visit, and gave me a taste. We went back latter in the week so I could get my own. That being said, it was more about location and availability, then it was about the food. It was a short walk from our villa at boardwalk, we were seated right away, our food was good, but nothing special by disney standards. There are so many other good places to eat, I would put captains grill fairly far down the list. Now if you are staying near the captains grill go for it, but I wouldn't take two buses to get there.

i agree w/the pp... it's good food and a nice relaxing atmosphere, but i wouldn't take two buses to get to it... i'd eat CS first ;)

we enjoyed our meals there (dinner and breakfast)... our servers were very nice, and the chef very helpful w/ds' food allergies... one thing that struck us odd was that we had about a 15-20 min wait for b'fast when the restaurant was 90% empty! that made no sense!
