849 for the day for 3 people., .the* is what I eat

m/poppins, Im just amazed at how you do it!
There is no way I can find food that cheap!!! lol

Heck~apples alone run me about .50-.60 each ($5 a bag) and I have 4 kids that eat them in one sitting, so that hits about $2.00. The cheapest I have found apples is 3.98 a bag!

And pita bread--ain't no way I could feed my family w/ .15 of pita bread!!

And we are from Indiana!!!!! lol Only gas and milk is expensive here!!!

Upset right now---some animal "helped" itself to about 10' of pole green beans, ate the leaves and some of the growing tips  Just found the stashed Home Depot gifts card I've been saving for an emergency so I'm off to buy some fencing. I suspect deer or groundhog.

Anyway, feeding family of five---ds14, dd12 (multiple food allergies) and dd7 (at ballet daycamp this week). Goal for rest of month is to average $12/day for food.

Dh informed me yesterday that we will have 11 guests for lunch on Sunday instead of the 3 I was planning on  We'll see just what that does to my food budget!

Yesterday Thursday 7/12

Not sure about tonight's dinner. Dd12 will be at a friend's bday sleepover so we MIGHT be able to finish the frozen meatballs that we can only eat when she's not here. They contain two of her allergens (soy and sesame). I stocked up when ShopRite had a gigantic sale right before she was diagnosed in March.

Ok, quick question,

When you say pita bread for .15.........is that only one person eating? Or are like 4 kids eating all of that for .15???

I usually buy bread at the bread store when it is marked down. I do not plan on what bread to buy. I find the bread that is on sale and then I grab tons. I was thinking about moveing out of our are . after hearing all the other prices I think I am going to be stuck here. :teacher: At least until the kids get older.

also a note on the pitia bread. I bought 5 bags of it and it was marked down to 119. The bread is whole wheat and my one dd hates it. She will eat it if I have penutbutter on it.

it is just 2 kids and they are splitting a pitia . (the pitia is large about the size of my face :rotfl: ). I put a* to what I eat with them. I am on a diet and the 2 older kids are at camp and my dh is woking out of town.

I love our bread store.
I went over to ours for the camping trip and picked up 3 loaves of bread 2 pks of hamburger buns 3 pks of hot dog buns and 7 6pks of english muffins for 3.00. The english muffins hubby will eat or i'll use them for pizza's on the weekends

Ok--thanks!!! I was worried that maybe I was not calculating right.
I've always wanted to hit a bread store to buy bread but they are closed when I get into town after work.
I need you to move by me and help me find the good deals on food!

I made zucchini lasagna once, but it came out watery. How do you make yours?

I would also like the recipe for the blueberry snack cake?

Thanks!

OK, Zucchini Lasagna, no recipe, I made this up out of desperation.

Take a Zuke slice it into rounds. Bread by dipping into beaten egg/milk and into seasoned bread crumbs and parm cheese. Place on cookie sheet sprayed with PAM. Spray top of Zuke with Pam and bake for approx 15 minutes at 350, until brown. Remove from oven, layer in baking dish, sauce on the bottom, zuke, ricotta cheese, sauce, mozz cheese, spices again and again. Heat through until melted together, approx 15-20 minutes (depends how thick you layer it) Voila. Not at all watery, sort of a cross between eggplant parm and lasagna.

By the way, if you have a lot of zucchini, bake the rounds as I descibed above than put them into a freezer bag and freeze (I food saver mine) in January or March pull them out and make Zucchini Lasagna. MMMM good, and I refuse to pay $2.19 a pound for zucchini in January.

Blueberry snack cake, super easy.

2 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cold butter or marg
1 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk
2 eggs, seperated
2 cups fresh or frozen berries

Combine flour and sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly ( I use a cheese grater to shred my butter and than mix in) Set aside 3/4 cup for the topping. Add the baking powder, milk and egg yolks to remaning mixture, mix well. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form, fold into batter.

Pour into greased 13x9 baking dish. Sprinkle with berries and reserved crumb mixture. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes. Use a toothpick to test.

If using frozen berries do not thaw before adding.

I am FULL of useless canning, freezing and gardening surplus ideas. Happy to share them.

Todays menu:
Breakfast: Blueberry wheat waffles
Bacon
Milk or OJ
Lunch: Leftover wedding soup, sliced cucumbers
Milk or water
Dinner: Chicken Pot pie ( I am currently over run with garden peas)
Green salad (greens, peas, cukes, zuke from garden)
Sun Tea with mint

Snack: Blueberry snack cake
Pumpkin cookies (frozen pumpkin puree)
Milk, yogurt smoothies

Once again I am too lazy to calculate, but since most things are planned overs or out of the garden I am a happy girl!

Fried zucchinni freezes well just make sure it's cooled and dried before freezing. I usually fry it drain it on cookie racks and wait about an hour or two before it's put in baggies to be frozen.

"Where does your DH work that he gets to eat for free?? What a deal that is! We were excited that DHs new job provides free coffee. (You had to buy it out of one of those little machines at the last place.)"

My husband works for a large resort in Orlando (not Disney or Universal). Part of their benefits is that they get full access to the cafeteria for free...anything they want, any time of day. He usually gets eggs and a meat, some bread for breakfast..and lunchtime he loads up on free salad bar and usually grabs some soup and fruit. They are not allowed to take-out anything, unless catering has leftover food from an event.

Also, he is allowed tips and guests are always giving him things. Today, he received a bottle of Kendell Jackson wine...can't wait to have it tonight!

We're very lucky, I know!!!! (I work for Disney and rarely get any kind of treat!)

Be sure to eat it before it expires cereals and bisquick mixes and pancake mixes, all have baking powder in them and when it expires it forms a mold that's very dangerous when you eat it.

hahaha I am so sorry but I have teeneage boys...the above is just a snack for one of them for a day. They eat you out of house and home with the bottomless pits

And don't forget the 3 or 4 friends that always are around for dinner. I always thought that feeding a few extra kids was a small price for getting to know your kids friends. Many of these kids had rarely if ever eaten a family meal. I think my biggest meal was after my teenager had been sledding with 4 friends. That made 7 for homemade pizza. The grand total was 8 pizzas over the next 2 hrs. We had tears running down our face watching the pizza slice eating races. Price of ingredients was probably 20 dollars but the laughter and memories are priceless.popcorn::

I am sure these kids will eat them all. they all will be home later today:love: . I never buy theses types of cereal, however it was such a GREAT DEAL. They will be prob gone with in a week and a half:idea: . Now the kicker is I forgot my coupons and I could have save more money:eek: oh well still a great deal
