Hi We went on an unexpected vacation and lucky i came home to a freezer of some meat and frozen veggies, because it's official were broke.lol :rotfl: But traveling the Oregon coast i did get tons of cherries and blueberries. So for the next month or two i will even be cutting my budget even more any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. It was so worth it though my kids love the coast and so do i and hubby he received a much needed rest he needed. Now back to laundry and cleaning that wasn't done :laundy:

Ok Sunday.
We just got back from visiting family, all I am doing is dinner. I ran in the store to buy stuff for lasagna and just that was 12.73. Tomorrow we will have plenty of left over

3 spaghetti sauce
2 lbs of cheese
Ragata cheese
Lasagna noodles= 12.73

Ok, I figured the budget gurus could help me :)

Can you freeze yogurt? I am guessing the bacteria dies and sort of makes an ice cream type treat. I found a local surplus store that sells yogurt for 12 cents each but you have to eat it within 3-5 days. Is it worth getting?

Yes, but if you only eat half of it and have half for dinner another night, that makes it only $6.36. :) I usually get at least 2 full dinners out of a lasagna, and sometimes 3! So it always seems like a high cost meal, but it's actually not.

I tried it once and didn't turn out very good. Kids hated it it kind of seprated when frozen like milk does but worse. I personally didnt like the freezing of yogurt. Try one and see what you think.

I got this from the FAQs of the Stoneyfield Farms website:

Does freezing yogurt destroy or alter the effectiveness of the live cultures?
You can freeze a cup of yogurt. A cup of yogurt that has been frozen and thawed will have a different look and texture than fresh yogurt. The cultures become dormant when frozen, but once thawed either in the refrigerator or by your body heat when ingested; they will become live and active once again. There will be a few cultures that do die, but there are so many billions in our products, that it is truly insignificant
.

Keep in mind, too, that Stonyfield Farm uses less sugar per ounce than other major brands. I read that yogurt like Go Gurts and other yogurts have way too much sugar which negates its good benefits. (I am studying nutrition and I am in the process of getting certified as a group instructor so I read a lot. ;) )

I totall suck at this challenge...I can't even keep our L or D meals to $10 each a day.

"Adding this up, you are getting less than 1,000 calories per day??? Is that right? The only protein for you is the steak?"

__________________

You are correct. It was the only protein I had yesterday. However, it is not like that everyday. It's the summer and I wasn't in the mood for a lot of meat (and yes, I know there are other ways to get protein but since I am sick I didn't feel like eating a lot yesterday). Ask me again why I'm defending myself. This is silly. Moving on.....
