I got a Fed Ex delivery this morning. I had to sign for it so I figured it must be something important or valuable. I see it's from DVC! I'm thinking, first they send us the giclee, and now this... I wonder what it could be? Maybe it's the official AKV announcement with artist renderings of the room layouts and furnishings. Maybe I won something as part of the YOMD?

I open the Fed Ex box and find a pretty gift box inside. This is getting exciting! I open the gift box and find... a set of 16 postcards and a reminder about the $15/point incentive available at SSR. What!?!?!? That's it?!?!?? And I had to sign for this!?!?!

The actual contents could have been mailed to me via USPS in a envelope. Why would DVC overpackage things to this degree and pay for Fed Ex delivery? DVC Marketing must have money to burn. This is just crazy.

Did anyone else receive one of these? Is there something else in the box that I missed, like a "Fastpass for Life" or a complimentary airline ticket to Orlando?

Sign me, Confused. :confused3

I just think it's nice that DVC sends nice things to it's members. No complaints here.

Got one too. Didn't have to sign for it, it was sitting on the porch when I came home for lunch. :thumbsup2

The only other thing in the box is tricky to find. You have to slit the cardboard and peel it open. Inside you'll find complete details for the new DVC at CR. Unfortunately it's written in a combination of ancient Sumerian and Mouse Jive. I've gotten this far:
"All the rumors are wrong. The DVC at the Contemporary will be..." :rolleyes1

got mine today also. the dogs heard someone at the door. when I got there the Fedx box was in between the doors and I didn't sign anything.

LisaS, I think somebody just wanted your autograph :lmao:

Just got mine, too. The box was left while I was taking DS to the Dr. I like the postcards, but would have rather all WDW ones- and it'd been much cheaper to send them differently, I agree. I am ready to buy more points, but I watn AKV, so I guess I'll have to miss out on the special- oh well!

I also enjoy the things DVC sends out. I love the giclee. I love the VWL lithograph and the DVC tote bag they sent when I purchased my add-on there. But I think you will understand my post when your Fed Ex package arrives and you see for yourself. I'm sure the packaging (and certainly the shipping fees) cost way, way, way, way more than the contents of the package. It's like sending a $1 gift to someone, but putting it in a $5 gift box and paying another $5 to ship it rather than paying 75 cents for a padded mailer and another 75 cents postage. But then, I confess I'm the practical sort...

Think you have to attend Disney U to understand Mouse Jive;)

got mine this a.m., too, without the signature required. i'm with lisas - don't need the fancy wrap and costly mailing!

if i sent my friends a solicitation to join dvc as often as dvc sends me these things - i wouldn't be able to keep the friends i have!..maybe i will just start with the a's in the phone book and start mailing blindly - like the cold calling telemarketers! i might get lucky!

Hmmm... "The DVC at the Contemporary will be" sounds more like a message from Yoda. But then I guess it would have been preceded by "The rumors all wrong they are." :yoda:

Mine was between the doors when I got home this afternoon. I too was so excited when I learned it was from DVC. And I was also a little dissappointed. All this just for postcards. I agree with the OP why put so much into it just for this. I would have been just as excited if they came in an envelope. DD loves them though. Thanks DVC!!!

It came to us this morning as well. No sig. required here either.

I like the postcards! :)

I live in an apartment and FedEx won't just leave a package for me. So I guess my choices are to either drive 20 minutes out of my way to go the local FedEx depot, or just not pick up my postcards. Of course, I haven't been home yet, so maybe there's still hope that the FedEx guy left it for me. Doubtful, but possible.

Mine came today too....very nice and all.....but the guide listed in mine is not my guide!!!

I also had a mailing today thanking me for adding on from my original guide, who I just bought BWV points from. So now I am just confused. :teeth:

Got mine today too - it was waiting for me when I got home!! Couldn't quite figure out what it could be at first - I thought I did more shopping online and couldn't remember what I bought!!! :lmao:

In May '05 our family happened to be staying at the BoardWalk as the Happiest Celebration on Earth kickoff occurred. While walking back to our room we happened to catch a glimpse of the parachute team going through trail runs for that night's press event introduction of Soarin. I'm sure they had to be extra careful of where they were landing due to the dozens of hang gliders Disney had brought into the park and the sand sculpture being created outside of The Living Seas.

Disney isn't particularly budget-conscious when it comes to marketing expenses. They close theme parks...fly people to NY, Anaheim, Orlando...host lavish banquets...hire entertainment...distribute hundreds of swag packets with pins/lanyards/other goodies...and so on.

I, too, was a bit disappointed in the postcards. A few years ago I got a set postcards with images of all of the DVC resorts. That was much more impressive from a collectible standpoint.

But I suspect the FedEx charges are barely a blip on the radar.

Its nice enough, as long as this isnt their way of spending all of our dues.....

Haven't received it yet, but just a thought re FedEx.

Is it possible DVC has worked out a contract deal with FedEX making the FedEx rate cheaper than using USPS.?

Just a thought.

DW and I both got one. I beleive this stuff is from the developer not our dues.

Well darn. I was so excited to share what my guide sent me. Should have known there was no way it wasn't already on DIS. :rotfl2:

I think it's nice that the marketing aspect of the postcards is very low key. Just one small web address on the back.

Interesting that they aren't all Disney locations. They have all the DVC collections represented. Hawaii, London, New York, Venice, San Francisco, Africa, DCL, Disney World. Does this mean I have to go to all these places in order to send the postcards?

I got mine too and I called my hubby to tell him, I was excited to get a package from DVC but not the contents. Oh well I'll just sit around waiting for the next fedex :happytv: !!!
