Were are going to be at Disney from 2/6/04 - 2/10/04 as a surprise for my DD's birthday. I'm concerned how crowded it will be. It's the week before President's Day, but will it be crowded while we are there? I haven't made any PS yet, I thought it wouldn't be crowded yet. Anyone know what the crowds are like then? Also, is it warm enough for shorts that time of year or should I brings jeans and sweatshirts?

Cindy,
We went at that time last year and it was wonderful. The weather was great and the crowds were very light. Now they were having some cheerleading competitions at that time, but I think if you stay away from the All-Stars you'll miss most of that. The only time we saw them was at MGM where they were performing. The only rides we had to wait for the entire trip were Dumbo - 15 minutes and Winnie the Pooh - also 15 minutes. Everything else was 5 minutes or less.

You can check out some photos of our trip here.

Note the photos in Frontierland...where are the people? Seriously...we've been there at all times of year and this was our least crowded and best weather trip we've every had.

Thank you for the reply. I hope we get as lucky with the crowds! How was the weather? Was it warm enough to go swimming or was it hit or miss?

We've always gone at that time of year and we've always been able to use the pools. Course some days, it was just my kids using the pool;). The pools are heated, but the run back to the room can be chilly at night. Bring some hooded sweatshirts with you to keep you warmer. We've had everything from 80s and bright sunshine to 60s and overcast. We usually wear shorts and sweatshirts and then lose the sweatshirts as it warms up.

Thanks, I'm not big on the pools, but my DD would spend all day in it if I let her!!!:)

Hi Cindy, I am planning a Feb. trip too, hopefully Feb 1-6. I am going to call tomorrow to make my reservations. I guess I will try to stay at the new pop century hotel, I really would like to stay at one of the moderates, but there is almost $300 difference in price for 5 nights. I was planning on buying an annual pass to save money on the room, we will be needing 2 rooms because my parents are going to go with us, but I haven't seen any discounts yet at that time for AP holders. I wish they would come out with some. Does anyone think they will? I guess if they do, I can just call and change my reservations to a moderate then.

This will be our 2nd trip to Disney, and I can't wait!

Hey Cindy...
...looks like we'll be there "together!"

I'm sure we'll go into the pool. When you figure that here in PA it will be something like 30 degrees...even the 60's would FEEL tropical! :sunny:

Kim, did you check out the deal with the new Disney Visa. My brother booked it with that promo and saved alot of money!!:)

JCEMOM,

Have you stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge before or is this your first time? This is my favorite resort! I would stay here every time, but the only way I get my husband to agree to another Disney trip is to usually promise to try a different resort and I sometimes have to throw in a side trip somewhere else. He is not as big a fan of Disney as I am. The only way I talked him into staying here again is because this is a surprise trip for my DD's birthday and this is her favorite resort as well. Have a great trip! Maybe we'll bump into each other at the pool (or Boma, my favorite restraunt).

This is our first visit to AKL -- I am SO excited! :hyper: My DH didn't even realize we were staying here until a couple of weeks ago! He thought we were staying at Holiday Inn!  (Guess you can tell who is doing ALL of the planning, huh?!)

We are definitely planning to try Boma...I've still got to find some "lime green stuff" to wear, though. Be on the lookout for us! (Me, DH, DS 10, DS 9 -- you'll notice them because they'll be fighting with each other most likely -- and DD 1)

You will love the Animal Kingdom Lodge. If you go out the back there is a fire pit going with rocking chairs (they have little ones for kids too) and if the weather permits they tell stories by the fire at night. It will be me DH DD 9 and DD 3.

We'll be sure to check that out one night. The boys want to try out the night vision binoculars also. With parks closing early we were a little worried about the boys getting bored in the evenings at AKL, but I think they'll be fine. I've heard it has a very relaxing feel...maybe we won't even need a vacation when we get home from our vacation...LOL

I notice you mentioned your DD's birthday...my DH's birthday is the 6th, so we'll be celebrating at Disney as well! :teeth:
(I'm thinking of getting him a massage from the spa as a birthday gift.)

I know what you mean about a vacation after your vacation...LOL... We went to Vero Beach for a few days after our last trip and it was so relaxing. Our DD's were kept busy with all the activities that Disney does on the property.

We are celebrating our DD's birthday a few days early when we get there. Her birthday is actually on the 14th, but our schedules wouldn't permit us to be there that week:( . She has no idea we are going. We are telling her the morning we leave.

I almost slipped several times, I have to watch what I say.
