February School Vacation

That's our break here in NJ, and we just do some day trips (20 minutes outside NYC).

I live in South Texas, none of the schools near us have a winter break, we even go to school on Presidents Day. We have spring break in March and are out of school on Good Friday and the following Monday.

I am in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and we have the week of the 22nd of February off for vacation.

Hi,

SW Ct here. We dont have a long "winter break", but we do get a 4 day weekend. 1/2 day of school on the 11th. then they are off Friday and Monday for Presidents weekend.

April break this year is April 17 to 25. We also get 4 day Easter weekend (Thursday to Sunday).

Last year we went to NYC for Presidents week. This year, we are staying home and doing some home projects!

We just got back from the Christmas break (aka winter break), and there's already another break??? No, we don't get that out here in NM. We'll get off one day for Presidents' Day, one week in March for spring break, and on Good Friday (which is called a "Vernal Holiday"). That's it until school is out on May 23rd.

I know some districts in NJ have the February vacation, but the district I work in does not :sad2: We only get next Monday off for President's Day and then nothing until April for Spring Break.

Here in Massachusetts we'll be off President's Week....and we are actually leaving for Disney tomorrow night for 11 days!

Kids will miss 4 days of school this week and just spent a good chunk of time yesterday doing all the work they were going to miss.

After school tomorrow, we'll be heading to the airport for a "sleepover" so we are ready for our 7:30am flight. Should be in Orlando before lunch!!

Winter Break is the week of Christmas & New Years.

Spring Break is mid-March this year, used to be week before Christmas, now it is two weeks before.

According to the unofficial spring break poll for the DIS--President's week, a week and March and then the weeks around Easter seem to be the most popular break weeks--whether it is called winter or spring or in some systems--they get both.

I'm in a Chicago suburb. We do NOT get a February break. We get 2 weeks at Christmas and our Spring Break (in our school district) is always the week after Easter.:confused3

Growing up as a west coaster we didn't know what Winter Break was either. For the longest time I just thought that it was anothe rname for Christmas break (and these days it is). We didn't have it when I lived in Michigan or here in Maryland. Just the initial Monday off for President's Day. If you're luck you might get the friday off too making it a 4 day weekend.

Same here -- I grew up in Wisconsin and live in Illinois. We have Christmas break and then nothing til spring break (last week of March) - we did have a couple random days off, but that's it. Never heard of winter break until I started to DIS. Maybe that's why schools get out so late on the east coast? You get a break in Feb and again in April?

I am in North/Central Connecticut (also where I grew up) and we get the week between Christmas and New Year's, then a week in February (typically it starts with President's Day and then the rest of th eweek), plus a week in April. The week in April varies from town to town, ours is the week of April 12 this year, plus Good Friday which is April 2.

Next year, our February vacation is the week BEFORE President's Day PLUS President's day....

We get out of school in mid June this year, but we also started 2 weeks before Labor Day.

As for our plans? Nothing big. DH and I split the week to stay home with the kids. He takes Monday & Tuesday and I take Wed - Friday. We will do some get togethers with friends, catch a movie, bowling, maybe Monster Mini Golf. Nothing big for us.

Yeah, we get out late June, but we don't start school until after Labor Day.

I love our school schedule. There are plenty of long and short breaks throughout the school year.

We are in a suburb of Atlanta and we get off a week for mid-Winter break, February 15th - 19th and then Spring Break is April 5th-9th. We get out for summer on May 28th.

What's a Winter Break? ;)

Seriously, I remember being in about 2d grade and reading a story in my English class in which the kids were on Winter Break. We all started asking our teacher about it and she had never heard of it, either. That was in 1968, I think, but I've still never personally encountered a school system that did it, and I've lived in the lower Midwest for 20 years now.

.

Winter break started, at least on Long Island, during the energy crisis in the late 70's. Schools were closing for both Washington and Lincoln's birthdays, sometimes in the same week. Getting the heat up to a comfortable level after having it off for the holidays was getting expensive. So many schools decided to close the entire week to save money.

We still get our 180 days, but get off the week of Presidents Day. I've got to admit I really love that week off- no holidays to cook or shop or clean or prepare for, just a week off with my husband and kids.

As far as our plans: there's no way we can afford Disney again this year. So we're spending the last week of July back at Lake George in upstate NY. We haven't been there in 3 years, and the kids are looking forward to it. I made the reservations 2 weeks ago!

We are in North Texas and we have never had a winter break. We are off for 2 weeks for Christmas and a week in March. Usually spring break is the third week of March.

We rarely get President's day off. I think that occasionally we use that day as a staff development day. This year it is just another day.

Sometimes we get Good Friday off but usually that is one of the bad weather make-up days. This year Good Friday and the Monday after Easter are bad weather make-up days. If we can make it another 2 weeks or so without any ice, then we shouldn't have to use our days and we will get those days off.

It is really interesting to see how different the school schedules are throughout the country.:goodvibes

We only get a week off for Christmas (winter) break. This year we went on Christmas Eve! If the 1st of Jan falls right we might get an extra day off but not often.

I would love to have 2 weeks off for Christmas. Most kids take extra days anyway.

We only get 3 days off for Thanksgiving as well.

We get Presidents Day week in Feb-going to Disney :woohoo:
April 19-23. Will probably stay around here then and do something with the kids a day or two. Bowling or the movies. They will probably have plans with friends too.

We get out on June 11 this year if we don't have any more snow days. We usually have 1 or 2 in March so I'm not planning on getting out then.

We are in GA also and we have 11-15 FEB. off and we are heading to Universal....we always do Universal on long weekends and short breaks...especially when Disney will be busy! haha We are heading to Disney for Star Wars Weekend in June. We get off 01-11 APR I believe for Spring Break and get out 26 May I think.

We are in MA and vacation is next week 2/15-2/20. I'm a SAHM so DS8 usually just stays home with me and his brother and we do different things each day if we are not going away.

Last year we went to New Orleans to visit the IL's over vacation and this year we are heading to Disney. I'm excited to go to Disney but won't do it again over Feb vacation unless we plan WAY ahead of time. We didn't decided to go until Oct so by the time we looked into airfare and everything it's costing us ALOT LOL Thank Goodness for last years tax return :)

I am in CT, we have the week of Feb 15th off as well.

My dh is going to Florida on the 15th leaving me here with the 3 kids. But he will be back on the 16th. There is no room on the plane otherwise I'd ask the pilot, OK not ask, BEG if I could go with the kids too.

I have no plans other then to go to my parents house for a day or two (the live in CT but an hour from me), go to the movies one day & not sure what else. Nothing too expensive.
