February 7, 2009 Western early check in!

Playa Uvas Peeps or PUPs for short. LOL
Has anyone ever put acrylic nails on by yourself? I tried it for the first time yesterday and it looks really good but my fingers hurt like a ... female dog. Are they supposed to be this sore?

Amanda

OMG amanda you so brave! i am SO not talented enough dexterity wise to do my own acrylics, matter of fact when i started at the gym with a trainer to REALLY get fit and lose the fat once and for ALL (after a major panic attack put me in the ER, NICE huh?) i took them off so i had NO excuses to not workout!! i had them on for 9 straight years, my nails KILLED me for months after i took them off, it is just NOW a year later that my nails are finally looking "eh" meaning not nice but no more ridges!!

hang in there they will get better, just be gentle and bring your stuff for a fill on board!

i LOVE the PUPs! that is soooo cute!! cannot wait! are we gonna pick a place to meet up for that day??

what time everyday at quiet cove yall??

Michelle

Sue, oh my gosh you are so creative, I actually bought material to make an fe, just to have even though I'm not in the fe thing, but maybe for later cruises or whatever but I haven't done it yet, don't know if I'll get to it but yours is great and I LOVE the tote bag, soo cute. Going through my ribbons now looking for lime green, good idea..

I am SOOO EXCITED.. I'll probably be the one with the giant lime green bow in her hair!

Michelle, as for the coffee mornings, whats a good time for everyone? or should we just wing it and decide when we get there?

I booked Uvas for 11, I have no idea twhat time they let us off the ship and if I'll even be able to be there by 11, but thats what Im shooting for unless anyone wants to go earlier, Im up for that too. We should all meet somewhere before, probably near the cabs then we can all share cab fares? 1-4 people is 10 dollars I think.

michelle

sue! SOOOO talented! the tote is precious and the FE is just beautiful!! you go girl with your talented self!

yes mich, i read the same thing, i think a cab with 5 or more is 22 bucks to uvas. we should pick a place to meet and do that!!

earlier is the best for me since clearly i am an early riser to begin with! i am thinking the days that we dont go ashore people might be inclined to sleep later but what do i know?! LOL

Well for those of us who have booked Uvas, what time did you all book? We should try to figure something out. I was thinking maybe we could use Dee's flag (if she brings it) to put up at the beach so we can find the group. Dee I don't remember if you booked Uvas, but maybe we could borrow your flag for that day if you will not be joining us?

I went ahead and booked 11... past navigators stated we get off the ship at 9:45. BUT by the time we get out, get a cab and get there... Yeah-- 11-ish :-)

I like the flag idea :-)

Susan-- you are SO creative!!!!!!

If I make and actually remember to bring it you may use it. We won't be playing with the pups that day. I will make it a priority to get the flag done, you betcha.

Sue, too much talent for one person!

Oh, btw - never made it to get my haircut because we spent the entire afternoon at the ER. DS6 fell on the ice and broke his fall with his chin! Bounced 3 times creating 3 separate openings. 6 stitches, applied glue, special bandage later and we are finally home 5 1/2 hours later. He was such a brave little man!

Michelle, um, which Michelle because I just realized there are two!! LOL I'm a little slow.

Michelle, radio talk show extraordinaire, I was lucky with putting the nails on because I'd never done it before. They turned out pretty good considering my inexperience. I'm trying to hang in there and not take them off but I think I might end up taking them off tonight because one of the nails is hurting my cuticle and I'm freaking a bit about possible infections, etc. I might retry again next week or closer to cruise time. Not sure... My nails are crappy, so if you see me with crappy nails you'll know I decided to quit with the acrylics!

Uvas time -- I wasn't thinking and I booked us at 10. I know that's too early but at least they'll have our spot -- I hope! LOL I might email Eduardo (again...) and give him a lter time since I messed up. I think the flag idea is really cool Dee!

Sue, your FE and the bag are precious! Very talented you are! (why am I talking like Yoda?)

I shopped the travel stuff at Target today and picked up a few odds and ends. Oh, and I found the PABA free sunscreen that Uvas requests at Target. It is made by Coppertone and says Oil Free on the front, and in the little print on the back says PABA free.

So where's everyone going on Cayman?? LOL Somebody needs to point us in the right direction!

Dee, just read about your son. OMG. Poor baby. He didn't hurt his teeth did he? DS2 fell on his face a few months (or was that last month? geez...) ago and fell on is top lip and managed to shove his top baby tooth back up inside his gum quite a bit. It was horrible. His tooth went through a good portion of his upper lip and I thought he'd need stitches.

Will the stitches dissolve or will he have to go back before the cruise?

Dee-- SO sorry to hear about your son :-( I hope he's feeling ok now-- stitches on a kid are never a fun ordeal... And in 3 places... Ouch! Poor kid :(

I'm not sure what we're doing in Cayman yet... I know I'm getting rum in George Town!!! Might even venture over to the bakery. There's always 7-mile beach... But I want to stop by Eden's Dive Shop and get some snorkel gear (if I don't get my own before) and check that out and maybe Devil's Grotto. Rum Point sounded great, but a little far away... So much to choose from!!! I know I need to narrow it down... What's everyone else doing?

We are down to the wire now, everyone keep well, and Dee I hope your son feels better soon. That is really a scarry event and he is only 6.

And Amanda your little one also. Did they have to remove his baby tooth. Has his lip healed yet. It is amazing how fast the insides of our mouths heal, much faster than the rest of our bodies, but that is still a trauma.

Anyway I wish them both very speedy recoveries so they can enjoy their vacations also.

-----------------------

OK, I book for 10 am also with the PUP group. Do you think it will matter if we don't get there until 11am. Do you think we need to rebook for 11am?
Or should I just wing it?

OK DD saw the tote online and now she wants one also, so guess what I am making right now. Yep another one, just different colors. Using my scrapes of materials I've had around the house from all the costumes I've made over the years.

I have been sewing since I was 7 years old, my mom taught me. She was a 4-H leader, and I have been sewing things ever since when I have the time. But did I teach my DD to sew, um no, but I did teach her to crochet, she is better at it than I am.

AAAwwww, shucks everyone. Your concern is very heart warming. Bailey is doing very, very well. He was so brave!!! After the 4th or 5th stitch the doc's needle became barbed on the end and began to cause Bailey pain even with all the numbing ointment they put on. At the 6th stitch she had to undo 2 or 3 stitches because they were running stitches and she needed to tie them off in a certain way. We decided he had enough and she said it would heal just fine health wise and cosmetically if she used a special type of bandage to finish it rather than renumb him and go at it again. Luckily, his teeth were not injured or his jaw bone. Then to add more insult to injury he got whacked in the chin with a Wii remote by his sister celebrating her win over her dad! That hurt as much as the initial accident.

Amanda, I can't imagine the terror of seeing your baby go through that ordeal! I do hope he is better now and he didn't lose his tooth or do any long term damage.

Caymen - we're going on a sailboat, snorkeling with the stingrays and whatever else our excursion brings. I'm not brave enough to book outside of Disney yet. Maybe when I'm a veteran and have more cruises under my belt (hoping and praying there are many more in my future). Each of my kids is an animal lover and a fish in their own right so this seemed perfect for them. I'm not a sun worshiper so a day at the beach isn't for me unless I have total body coverage, tent or umbrella so this seemed good for us as a family plus I love sailing!!!

I'll head to Michael's and Walmart this week to look for material, iron-on transfers from printers and Home Depot for a rod thingy (that's a technical term, doncha know!)

I'm creating the ice-breakers. It is either going to be a people search or People BINGO for the adults and older teens, mingling games. IE: Find somone who is sailing for 1st time. Find somone who traveled the furthest for the cruise. Ask someone who their favorite disney character is. So for the hunt the questions will be the same for everyone and listed. For BINGO every paper will be different and everyone has to ask the questions in order to get whatever BINGO special we decide. As for the kids I'm trying to finish up (in my mind ) the details of them finishing a puzzle as a group. My idea is to print a few Disney characters and then cut into puzzle-like pieces. Place the different pieces into envelopes, pass out envelopes one to each child and then the kids have to mingle to find the missing pieces of their picture. Then sort of as a team put the pieces together.

Any input would be accepted. I have more small details than I wrote but I didn't want to bore you with the details yet. I'll bore you at the meet.

DS and DD are sleeping, DH is playing Wii and I'm about to sign off :surfweb:

I'll see you all on the thread tomorrow! Night, Night everyone!

~ Dee

Oh, Hey! I just noticed in my ID stuff on the left side of the screen I've been upgraded from earning my ears to mouskateer! Woo who!:cool1:

Now, really goodnight!

hey guys, I've been gone for a while, I went upstairs to pack at 3:00 and was so overwhelmed that I cleaned the entire upstairs and moved furniture around, it's now spotless and I can focus on packing! whew!

Dee I hope Bailey is feeling better soon, thats a sore place to get stitches, hopefully he'll be fully healed for the cruise. I love your game ideas they sound like so much fun. And thanks for the flag, but don't go crazy trying to get it done just for us!

I booked Rum point beach for Grand Cayman, last time we were there we did the stingray swim, very very hysterical. That tour took us to the turtle farm and "Hell", which is a post office with some crazy rock formations. Then we went to some touristy flea market type place. I may cancel the beach if nobody wants to go there, maybe we'll just stay on the ship and enjoy the empty lounge chairs. Does anyone know if Rum Point beach is really far from the ship?

For those of you Pups who booked Uvas at 10, As long as they know you're coming I'm sure they'll let you in the gate, don't forget to print out your confirmation though. Have a good night everyone! :)

Good morning everyone,
It's been a busy week for me and wow, a very busy week around here. I will add my welcome to those who have just come 'onboard', so to speak. I have been trying to keep up with you all but have not had time to post.

It looks like Playa Uvas is going to be fun for you all. We are swimming with dolphins at Chakanaab(?) Park that day although a beach day with a group of families and kids sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe we will wander over if the two are really that close.

I laughed alot about the frustrations of packing. I have often described myself as the 'family bulldozer'. I shovel up everything and everybody and shove them in the general direction of where they should be, with the things they need to have with them. I think that I may have found others of my kind here.

I have reminded Mark several times that he needs to sort out his summer stuff. He has promised me that he will do it today. I have my stuff together.

I am in favour of names or some identifying ribbon for the port and embarkation day.

Are there plans or ideas for Grand Cayman? I need some recommendations or ideas. We will not be doing the stingrays as I don't think that my daughter would survive it. I'd like to do some nature, snorkeling or ruins thing. Are there ruins on Grand Cayman.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all. Un oh...My quiet moment it over, must go...till next time,
Marie

Real quick pop in and pop out for me this morn.... Guess what (again)?

We're going on a Disney Cruise.... NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea baby!! Woohoo!!!!!!

Marie, welcome back, I was wondering where you were. I think your dolphin excursion is right near Playa Uvas, you should definately come by! I booked Rum point beach for Grand Cayman, but I might cancel. I need to bang heads together here for a straight answer! nobody wants to commit.

I will have my lime green ribbon on at the port, I can't wait to see everyone else. I'll probably be driving my family crazy with "was she wearing a green ribbon?, look for a green ribbon!" haha. I can see it now, "wait I'm looking for green ribbons", my dd was like, "tell me you are NOT going to wear a tee shirt or something with your group name" hahaha now that's an idea! I can totally embarass her before we even get on the ship!

Pg, I know I'm soooo excited. It's absolutely freezing here today, snow and ice EVERYWHERE! Can't wait for the warmth.

so I have fun question for everyone, We love the part of the cruise when you board the ship and they announce your family name. I've heard other families call themselves some funny things, so I'm wondering for all you cruise veterans, do any of you do that or are you thinking of doing that? I'm thinking I may do it differently this time, give them a funny name or something. I gotta think of something good though....

Off for breakfast, be back later

Michelle

Dee...so sorry about the stitches. We've had DS with broken arm in May and then in Oct. football broke hand in 3 places and then in Nov. DS and DD were "horsing around' literally and she broke a toe. I hope your son heals really fast!

OK, our plans for GC: dolphins and at Coz: stingrays.

Has anyone else done the stingrays? I'm wondering how deep the water is and were kids enjoying it. My DD8 says she's good with it but once she wasn't sure about being in the ocean with wild stingrays.

We are first time cruisers so will take any advice. Do people bring their own beach towels at all or is it all DCL issued towels? Has anyone done a Harley drive on Key West? My DH would love that. I had another ? but I never seem to remember it when I'm online!:sad2:
