February 7, 2009 Western early check in!

Could someone point me in the right direction to find more information on the "$99 Deal." I went to the DVC site with no luck. I've seen several postings and did a search but couldn't make out all the details.

Also, is there any word on the fuel surcharge?

BTW, we will be arriving on the 6th and staying at the Residence Inn Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach. And we have a DS5.8. We are doing our best on the FE but it looks like eBay would be the quick route.

Thanks for your help,

Oh, it makes me want to cry...
/QUOTE]

OMG! It is making me cry also! I can just imagine the excitement and screaming when they open it and realize what it all means.

From lurking on other threads I found many groups also selected a color theme (shirt colors for the DISmeet, theme for the door to find FE's from our group easier, etc...). Lime green was popular. Is there any reason for green that I'm unaware of? If we do go with Valentine maybe we could go with shades of red or pink. If we go with a more caribbean name we could go for a brighter color or maybe island floral.
~ Dee

OK - that is so great - and made me cry too!! i remember how over the top excited my kids were when we told them we were going in Feb. Pgsahm2 - I can't wait to hear how your big reveal goes

in regards to shirts and colors. i think the lime green is a disboard thing. dis groups wear it to be identifiable. i love the idea of shirts, but we've already had our family shirts made. Light blue with "Kelly Family Disney Cruise - Western Caribbean February 7-14 2009" with Lilo & Stitch doing the hula (lilo & stitch are our favorite characters). can't figure out how to copy the artwork from Zazzle.com or I'd post a copy of it. I think they're super cute. since we already have ours, we would opt out of participating in group shirts if you all decide on that.

but we'd opt in to any door colors. I like your idea of pink or red since it's Valentine's Day or lime green works too. if we end up with Valentine Voyagers, maybe we could all make a magnet of that great artwork (if it's ok with MyLove4Disney)

Everyone here has such great ideas. I'll be happy with whatever everyone decides. This is such a great fun group. I can't wait to meet all of you and introduce our kids :yay:

JJCJFL - Were you on the 9/8/07 Western? We were on that cruise for DS#1's 3rd birthday.

I hear you on needing to lose weight before the cruise!!! I just had a baby in September, so I have quite a few extra pounds I'd love to be rid of!

It so nice to see so much more activity on this thread. I can't believe the cruise is coming so quickly.

Congrats on your baby! I think that the 9/8/07 was the one we were on. I can't remember for sure. We had a good group on that cruise.

SoCal,

Thanks for the information, problem solved. Where did the DVC post this offer? We must not be getting all the good stuff or it's in my spam folder. See you at the ResInnCoCoBeach!

Valentine Voyagers sounds great and I absolutely adore that magnet! :goodvibes

pgsahm2- That's such a cute poem. Your kids are going to be so excited!

First... I love the magnet design. Valentine Voyagers works for me..

pgsahm2... Let me know details on your surprise. We are surprising ours too. We got our passports in the mail last week and are going to wrap them up along with a scavenger hunt. The passports only took nine days (including sat and sun). I was shocked.

This secret is killing me. I can't wait to see their faces. We did some years back with our DD in going to WDW.

LOVE the Valentine Voyagers  And what a creative design for the magnet!!! Wonderful job!!!

I am starting to wish I would have kept our cruise a secret til Christmas, lol. Even though we won't have such a cool surprise on Christmas day, I'm working on Pixie Dust for their welcome to our stateroom :wizard: Who knows, maybe Disney will have some Pixie Dust of their own and surprise us with a room upgrade... A girl can dream :rolleyes1

Quick question-- Is anyone out there braving the trip without a passport? I know they say you need one if you need to fly back (and I do have one if SOMEONE needed to go back, but the DH and DS's do not at this point). I hate to think that way, and I almost never do, but I get that little sinking feeling every time I hear someone mention a passport... Thoughts? :confused3

OH! And told the boys what FE's were today-- they're so excited! I'm growing little Disney fanatics :) DS6 even started helping me pick out stuff. Can't wait!

As for color, I believe the un official DisBoard color is a lime green. On a past dis cruise our group bought the green rubber wrist bands with the cruise name and dates on it, we had them on the entire time so other diser would see them and remember each other. I was really nice as we all felt we had friends on board that we would socialize with, without any commitments. :)

By the way we will be wearing our lime crocs on board... We got them on sale for 14.99 at the crocs outlet. :thumbsup2

As for the magnet. I would be happy to make them for you, but I would put them on paper laminated with magnet pieces on the back since the magnet paper is pretty spendy. If that is ok, otherwise feel free to use it to make one for yourself, I don't mind. Send me an email on how many you want and your final cabin number and I will bring the with me and put them up on your doors, If you want a Family Name Let me know and I'll add that to is as I suggest that it is very personalized or you might not have it by the end of the trip. As others on this board I have had some of my non personalize magnets walk away on different nights even after I had them replaced (My Welcome Home DVC magents)

Eveyone thank you for the nice comments on it. I just used ms word and ms paint brush. My DD recreated the minnie and mickey from a coloring book in ms paint.

If others have any magnet Ideas that you would like to freely share please post, I love to get ideas from other. I have seen many pirate magnets but I thought we might try something new.

Let me know if you all want anything else.

Oh here's a small version for siggies if you want it

I have updated both lists and added links to my signature so that you change check to see if everything is still up to date and correct. So if you have moved you cabin or got a magical upgrade let me know and I will edit the list.

DisRaider I updated your and added you to the FE list.

I'm getting excited

Hopefully we can keep communicating during the holidays.

This is so much fun hearing how the supprises are going to be anounced. A couple years ago. I had disney call my daughter with an automated announcement of letting her know she was getting another DCL for christmas. I can't remember the phone number you had to call to set it up, I found it here on the DisBoard of course. You let them know the time you would be home, They called within a few mins of what was schedule weeks in advanced, it gave you a couple mins to get your child or people you wanted to annouce it to and Mickey came on and let them know that they would be joining him on the ship. It was great because I told her that I was going to have to cancel our trip but cause of my work not letting me off. She was supprised even as an adult child the little kid came out in her.

text with you all later.....

Welcome TinkerKat. I have added you to the group list, see my signature. If you care to share some additional information. The list includes information regarding ID->Home Location->DCL Home Location->Is this your 1st DCL cruise or other->Arriving in Florida When->Staying where the night before cruise->Who’s Traveling

As for the FE, in short if your remember from your last DCL there was a metal Fish outside your cabin door, that was used if someone from the ship had a message or something to leave you it would be placed on top of it.

The Fish Externder is a gift, notes, etc pocket holder, with a pocket for each member of your cabin, hanging from the fish thus calling it a Fish externer.

We are having a gift exchange between our group, there is a 2nd group amongst our group that are going to participate, it is not a requirement. Gifts are exchanged between us, we haven't finalized how many days we are going to exchange or if we are going to have a theme. I had mention candy, something from our states or cities we live in, or other small gifts.

Please others of our group please share your experiences with FE gift exchange, I am not an expert at the FE exchange. It should be fun, It generally is anonymous. gifts are purchase or hand made, some are simple some are very extraordinary. I have heard of things like leaving highlighters the first night to hand made empty picture books and chocolate candy suckers. Something for each person of the cabin or for the cabin as a whole. Everything goes. Eveything is a supprise..

Thanks so much MyLove4Disney - I figured out how to get your design in my signature (which is actually quite an accomplishment for me, believe it or not  )!

JRandAJsMom - I did not even think about the Valentine's Day parties at school :scared1: ! I'm sure my DS won't care about missing it, but now I have to be sure to finish all of the Valentines for his classmates and get them in to the teacher before we leave! I thought I was finished adding things to my to do list - oh well.

We have family shirts for the cruise also, though not personalized. I am going to make everyone wear them for our embarkation photo ;) ! I doubt if I could convince my parents to wear lime green for any reason, anyways, and pink is definitely out of the question for my guys  ! But I may be able to convince everyone to wear red one day - are we planning a photo of some sort or just a "wear the cruise color day"?

I am kinda jealous for those of you who are doing the Christmas surprises! I could never pull that off - I'm not slick enough :hyper: . But I am thinking about trying to surprise my son with the 3 day bounceback cruise for his birthday. The scavenger hunt sounds like an awesome idea! A friend of his goes to Atlantis every year, and he's been talking about going there for our next big vacation. I figure if we hop over there on the three day, we can get an idea if it's something we really want to look into or not. We'll see how everything goes. If I do make it a surprise, I would only have to hold back for four months or so (since we can't book the bounceback until April and his birthday's in August) - I still don't know if I could do it!

Well, better get some work done today! Talk to you all soon!

Wow! Great list! Thanks for the time! I'm running off to work, so will read more later.
My info is : 5th DCL last time I sailed was September of 2004. So excited!
Arriving on day of cruise. Via Amtrak Autotrain.
If anyone can point me in direction of more updated menus? I'd appreciate it. The only thing I found was from 2005!

Welcome to the newest Valentine Voyagers!:flower3:

I received my FE yesterday all the way from Australia by way of an Asian Country by the looks of the shipping label. Very cool. My FE is nothing special but I have it should I not figure out how to handmake one for my family. It is the 5 faces of Mickey. I will try to customize it some so it is less appealing to those who feel it is for them to take. Not sure what I'll use to embellish it but I'll come up with something.

I was on Oriental Trading last night looking for fun FE gifts...I should be Christmas shopping but noooooooo...I'm FE shopping. Where are my priorities :confused3 ?

I can't wait, I can't wait, I CAN'T WAIT!!!!! It is just around the corner now. Seeing how our thread as grown and is so busy, we are days from Christmas, then New Year's, then it is the cruise. I am coming out of my skin with excitement and I am forcing myself to not begin packing yet. Believe me, if my home was big enough and I had the space to have our luggage out and about I would have packed for this cruise the day I got home from our last cruise! I'm a list maker and planner so I'm going crazy with not having much to work with right now.

One thing that I'll have to begin making is our countdown paperchain for my DS6. He has no concept of timeframe whether it is hour, day, week or month. He thinks every time we leave the house we are leaving for the cruise. It was cute the 1st, 2nd or 3rd time but now that we are close to the 100th time (or more)...mmmm, not so much. If anyone has a cute Disney-type countdown they can share I'd love to see it.

Toodles for now,
~ Dee

Hey! I found these ones roaming around and they were posted in April of '08...

Lumiere's: http://*************.com/DCL_Lumieres_Menu.htm

Parrot Cay: http://*************.com/DCL_Parrot_Cay_Menu.htm

Palo: http://*************.com/DCL_Palos_Menu.htm

I've been drooling over them for a good couple of months already :-) I better get to losing those 10 pounds just so I can put them on again :-)

What a great idea! My DS's are 6 and 4-1/2, so that would be perfect for them... Right now they are into putting all our change into a jar for goodies on the trip and it's slowly adding up... They're up to $70 in change and a few ones (we've been saving for awhile!).

I wasn't thinking of the menus but now that you've posted them and I took a peek - I'm looking forward to trying some good meals. I was very proud of my DD who was 8 in Feb. She tried so many of the more unusual foods on our last cruise. She loved the "snails". My DS on the other hand had mac 'n cheese every night...when he was awake that is.

Please send an email to me at mylove4musicsue@yahoo and I can send you the word file and bmp file. It will probably be a better file than copying from the web page. Please note that in the word file I used the Walt Disney Script v4.1 Font from the web.

You may use it as you wish. You can also ask your kids to find all the hiden Mickeys'

Thanks Susan

I almost didn't pick up the phone-- looked like one of those dreaded telemarketer ID's... But I'm soooo glad I did :goodvibes

It was the official call from DVC saying that our fuel surcharge was being refunded to my Visa!!! She said at first they were just going to do onboard credit, but turns out that Disney is turning the benefits of decreased fuel charges over to the customers... And it couldn't have come at a better time since I just looked at my online statement after Christmas shopping :thumbsup2

So anyway-- if you haven't gotten a call already, you should be getting one soon!!!

JRandAJsMom - That's great that DVC called you. We booked this cruise through them, too, so I'll be waiting for my call! :thumbsup2

Love the idea of a paper chain countdown. I think I'll do that with DS4 after Christmas.
