February 29th at WDW

If it doesn't work out, maybe you can shoot the castle at sunSET on your next trip and just flip the image?????? :lmao:

Doesn't work, unless you shoot the Castle from the back side. As you're facing the Castle, the sun sets about 7:00-8:00 o'clock from that view. I've thought about shooting it from the path up to the Castle on the opposite side, but it's filled with a line of strollers waiting to see Rapunzel. I'd get clobbered if I tried to setup a tripod there.

I'm doing the same thing. At first, I didn't feel anything special about the 24 hour day at the park. However, the idea of getting some sunrise shots appeals to me. I checked with some of my friends who like doing photo walks at Disney and they're in for this one, too.

The big thing I'm debating is whether I want to do a few selected scenes for still shots, or if I want to do a time-lapse over one scene. Such decisions.

I do like the time lapse idea. You think you could get them to take down the flag pole for the day so you could shoot from the train station????

Rule number one......... most of what I say isn't serious. :goodvibes I live life that way to keep my kids on their toes.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

We were just in WDW over the weekend, and with the Magic Kingdom opening at 7 am two days of our trip, I was able to get into the park at around 6:50--before the sunrise--on both days.

I came away with a couple sunrise-ish shots that I think are okay, but I didn't have the amazing colors I would've liked. The two big issues I had were: A) the sunrise wasn't that impressive either day, and B) I chose poor locations to shoot.

If you're planning on shooting this at ground level, you're going to have a difficult time. The locations Bob suggested probably would work best, but then you're stuck with whatever subjects happen to be in your frame. I'd also add the Swiss Family Treehouse to that list.

Above all else, though, my point is that if you're really interested in shooting the sunrise, you might consider planning a trip during one of the busiest times of the year. That way, you have more than one opportunity to shoot the sunrise over the course of your trip. With this strategy, you have to contend with crowds, but operating hours are such that you can go to the park for a few hours in the morning, nap, and come back for evening EMH and get just as much done as you would during a lighter time of year.

Last Thursday, I was the very last Guest out of the park. Friday morning, I was the 5th person in. Got a lot done despite it being incredibly busy during the middle of the day. Being able to walk back to BLT to sleep through the middle of the day was great.

I haven't edited my "real" photos yet, but here's a crappy Instagram photo of what the park looked like at around 6:15 am: http://instagr.am/p/c30kZ/

While it would be fun to be at MK on Feb. 29, it's going to be packed with people!

Hardly. It's after President's Day week and before Spring Break in what's traditionally a moderately slow week. This event falls in the middle of the week and was announced two months before the fact.

Few people will book a trip down just for this at this point, although there might be a decent number more local AP holders in the park than normal. Still, nowhere near packed.

Great idea to go during the very early morning hours of EMH over Christmas. Let us know when you have some final images posted somewhere.

I would be concerned about putting too much stock in the conditions on one given day. I took some photos of the boys on the beach in Sanibel in 1999 in the midst of the most glorious golden sunset I've ever seen. Since then, every time we go, I have to be on the beach at sunset. I want one more shot at those beautiful colors. I haven't seen it like that again. But still..... I must..... keep...... trying..........:lmao:

Marlton Mom has walked the plank and booked a trip....

A SOLO, as in no family, me myself and I, Photo trip from Monday Feb 27th to Friday March 2nd.

I've always wanted to do it..... and now I have.

I'm calling this the "Running away from home" trip. If they're lucky, I'll be back....

Maybe I will see you there Marlton Mom. I will be there 2/22-3/2. Now I just have to come up with a plan of attack for the 29th.

I've been trying to talk my mom into a just-the-two-of-us trip to Disneyland for a while (I've never been, and she hasn't been since before WDW opened, I think). We were already planning on late Feb/early March (I give a long talk in front of my department Feb 24, and I'll want to celebrate), so I'm thinking of heading to DLR for the 29th. Could be really cool...although I know I won't be able to stay in the park for 24 hours straight!
