February 28, 2009 Bushwacker Banditos Magical Cruise

I think only the slots they make available at the 90- day mark are taken; I think they then relase additional ones at the 75 day mark, and they also keep some open for guests to reserve when they board (in Rockin' Bar D).

Remind me - when is the 75 day mark??

Hi Everyone,

With the cruise getting so close I finally decided to start planning :) This looked like a great thread. I tried to read the past posts but there's just too many! ;)
I was wondering if anyone knew how the dinner rotation would be (especially the semi & formal nights). I'm trying to decide when to reserve Palo and also when to put my son in the Nursery.

Thanks for the help!

WELCOME to you Bellaiah and family!!!

I'm keeping a master list of everyone on this thread we'll be cruising with, and would like to get your info. So I'll send you a PM (in Dis speak, that's Private Message - to get your PMs, go to the top right of this screen where is says "Welcome Bellaiah" - there is a link there called "Private Messages" - click on that, and you'll see one from me. Since you're new to the Dis Boards, you can't send a reply PM, but my email will be in there so you can send me the info that way.

Looking forward to getting to know you better!! Johnna:cheer2:

Thanks Johnna for the welcome! :)

I did email DCL about the rotation and I wanted to share the info they gave me:

Dining attire varies by venue or theme night on your cruise. In general, most meals are "Cruise Casual" -- no shorts, swimwear or tank tops; jeans, khakis and capris are permitted. Most cruises also have special theme nights. Below is the recommended attire for your cruise itinerary and is subject to change:

On 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruises:
*Nights 1, 3, 4, & 7: cruise casual
*Night 2: "formal night" - formal wear for men: tuxedo or suit; for women: gown or dress
*Night 5: pirate night with deck party - cruise casual or your best pirate outfit!
*Night 6: "semi-formal night" - semi-formal wear for men: suit/jacket; for women: dress or pantsuit.

Dress for dinner at Palo on all cruises:
Men: dress shirt or jacket
Women: dress or pantsuit

Hope that helps anyone who may have the same questions I did! :thumbsup2

Johnna, I think the 75 day mark will be on December 15th. I found this handy little Disney calculator: http://www.pscalculator.net/pscalc.php

:flower3: Welcome, Bellaiah! :flower3:

First of all, :welcome: Bellaiah, to our little (and growing) crew of crazy cruisers -- try saying that three times very fast after a few Bushwhackers :lmao:

Hey Donna, thanks for the calculator. As a cruise noob, I need to wait for the 15th to make any bookings. :sad1:

I am really itching for Castaway Cay right now - it's been snowing off and on for 3 days here and the temperature this morning was a balmy -23C (or -10F). The scary part is... that isn't even considered a cold morning here... we usually get a few days in the -40 neighbourhood every winter :scared1:

I am SO looking forward to tropical temps and tropical drinks... :beach: :sunny:

A good lesson for those of us who complain that 20F is cold! It's all about perspective. :goodvibes

Hi Everyone! Hope that your holiday preparations are running smoothly and everyone has stocked up on their holiday cheer.:drinking1 Even though the economy is bad,the traffic has picked up and retail in the toy business has me going 60 hours a week.:sad2: Two more weeks and it will all be over:cheer2:

Now on to more important questions. I am trying to make arrangements for the night before we sail. I have been reading Hotel.com's website and it seems that the hotel guests that have reviewed the hotels are not very complementary so I need some help with suggestions. We have hired a driver to take us from the airport the night before because it is less expensive than the DCL transportation. I just need somewhere to stay that will transport us to the port in the morning ...and clean is always nice!!

Thanks for your thoughts.

We are staying at Disney the night before so we are using Disney's transportation from the airport to Disney, then from Disney to the Port and last but not least from the port back to the airport.

This way we don't have to touch our bags when we arrive, it really puts us in the Disney mood staying over even for just 1 night at Disney. If you look at the value resorts you wont spend much more then staying offsite.

We have done 8 Disney Cruises and we have tried all ways to get to the cruise. Getting to Florida the night before is a great idea since the airline service is awful and it would be miserable to miss your cruise because of them. We have used a towncar, we have used a rental car, we have used Mears etc, and we like Disneys buses best. You get to meet people you will be spending the next week together with, and get to know them, make some friends early.

I hope my input helps.

so last night went to a Nets vs Knicks game and had great seats

We've stayed at three hotels in Cape Canaveral:

Best Western: in '05, we stayed here, and it was nice. It was right on the beach, close to a few restaurants, and the rooms were the usual, typical hotel rooms. They have a pool, it was fine. You have to arrange for a van to take you to the port on Sat. am; it was pretty cheap if I remember correctly - around $5/per person?? I could be totally wrong about that - it was almost 4 years ago...

Radisson: in '06 we stayed here. The rooms are nice - we had a suite and it was very roomy - and a jacuzzi bathtub which the kids loved! The pool is great (although we only used it once since it rained) but the kids loved it. Cruise morning is HECTIC! They have a shuttle that almost everyone arranges for - be sure you schedule yourself when you check in - if not when you make your reservation. They also have a Starbucks kiosk in the lobby - high marks from me for that! We also had an issue the first night - we had asked for a crib when we checked in, and we still didn't have it by the time we got back from dinner - when we really needed it! And the manager comped us that night - just for not bringing a crib earlier! It was really surprising to us to comp us a night's lodging for such a small thing. But they take their reputation of having good customer service very seriously - obviously.

Residence Inn by Marriott: in '07 we stayed here and will stay here again in '09 - mostly because we stay for free on Marriott points that I've earned. They too have a nice pool and the rooms are good - it had only opened a month earlier when we stayed there, so everything is new and clean. I think all the rooms are suites - with a kitchenette, microwave, full size fridge, plates, cups, etc. The Residence Inn branch of Marriott is typically designed for people who plan to have extended stays, so they try to provide as many comforts of home as possible. They also have a basketball court on property, and I believe a complimentary breakfast. We had a rental car so we returned the car and used the car's shuttle bus to get to the port that morning. I'm not sure what, if anything, the Residence Inn offers in terms of port transportation.

Personally - I feel like you can't go wrong with any of these hotels, though I prefer the slightly more upgraded Radisson or Marriott to the Best Western. I'm a huge Marriott fan, so that is always my first preference for hotels - and not just because I am a Platinum Member!

Hope this information helps!! Johnna

I too choose to come the day before fearing the airline could delay or cancel on us causing us to miss the boat. We will be staying at Port Orleans French Quarter (I believe). We will spend our day at Downtown Disney nearby for something fun to do without hurting the pocketbook. They have free transportation from the airport to the hotel. Then we booked DCL transportation which will pick us up at the hotel and bring us to port and then back from port to the airport.

Since you hired a driver to take you to Port Canaveral, maybe you could consider just staying at the MCO Hyatt Friday night, we have never stayed there, but it always gets high reviews, and it is right there at the airport (actually in the airport) and then just have the driving service pick you up Sat morning (at the Hyatt) and drop you off at the ship....
We did this on our first cruise....except for we were at the Nick Hotel in Orlando...it worked well for us...

But what we did last cruise and will do again this cruise is rent a car from Budget (which is right in the airport...no shuttling) and then staying at the Raddison. We will pick up our car (Ford Explorer) at the Orlando Airport Friday afternoon and return it Saturday Morning at the Port Canaveral Budget for $75.00.....Ron will take the girls and I (along with all the luggage) to the ship Sat morning around 10:00, and while we are checking in, he will return the car and catch the Budget Shuttle back to the ship....this really does work pretty slick!!!!

When returning...we will take the Budget Shuttle (which they have a couple of different shuttle vans there at the port waiting) to get our car that we will drive back to the airport..The Port Canaveral Budget is only about a 10 minute (easy) drive to the port....And the drive back to the airport is a pretty easy drive as well, (a straight drive west on the interstate) taking under one hour....

Okay... that was probably so MUCH MORE info then you wanted...and I probably worded it so you are know even more confused then you where before you asked the question LOL!!!! After reading what I wrote... I am even confused :confused3

So I guess answering you original question.... we have only stayed at the Raddison..and have always been happy...as far as the Hotel Transportation goes...we have never had to use it.

Another quick note...we enjoy having the car the night before the cruise so we can go out to eat if we choose and also can pick up last minute things that we may not want to pack for the plane ride. As far as having the car for the return trip...it is nice to have esp. if your flight doesn't leave till later, we have stopped at the Florida Mall which is along the interstate as well as a QUICK visit to Kennedy Space Center one year.

Well we will be coming in two nights before and using some of our DVC incentive points to stay at Saratoga Springs. We will be dong the same for two nights after the cruise as well. We will be using DCL transportaion. Sometimes we go with conviance over what it will cost. Anyway I am writing this from my room at Saratoga Springs right now. I am going back home today. It was a good three night trip. Weather yesterday kinda sucked. Very heavy rain till like 2 in the afternoon. Still had a good trip. Just a FYI. I belive for the regular carabiean sailings, all the final payment days are the 75 day mark.

Alan-Enjoy the rest of your stay at SSR!

I am still trying to decide on where to stay the night before the cruise. We will arrive in Orlando about 10:45 a.m. and are renting a car from Budget. I thought we might go to Downtown Disney for the afternoon unless the weather is really nice and then we'll go to the pool or beach depending on where we decide to stay.

We are DVC members too and will be staying at AKV for 2 nights after the cruise.

DW, the kids and I are coming down the weekend before the cruise and staying at WDW for a few days. We will have a rental car which we will drop off at MCO on the 27th. That is the day the other 10 family members fly in. We are all staying Friday night at the MCO Hyatt.

Since I booked my own flights, we are not taking the DCL transport (14 people x $69 is downright scary), so our plan is to rent 2 minivans at MCO on the 27th, use them to shuttle us all around and drop them off at Port Canaveral on cruise day. After the cruise, we will do the same thing in reverse -- pick up 2 vans at PC and they will get dropped off at MCO when everyone flies out Sunday morning. Much cheaper this way for us.

BTW, for you people in warmer areas, can I come visit? The temperature is supposed to plummet this weekend, with an overnight low on Saturday night of -35C or colder. :scared:

Is it February yet?????

John
