February 26, 2014 - 4-Night Bahamian Cruise on Disney Wonder - Itinerary B

We don't have anything for Nassau yet. What did you go with. We will be doing key west on our own going to get the Hop on hop off Reilly and tour around. Just going to book this ourself and not through the boat as the ship charges for kids when they are actually allowed to ride free!

This will be our first time on a Disney Cruise.. Myself, my hubby and our two boys (3 1/2 yrs & 18 mnths). We are so excited. We booked the Blue Lagoon Island Beach Day since we have small children. We are looking forward to Castaway Cay and may just stay on the ship at Key West port?

Any suggestions or tips I should know for the Disney Wonder or any of the ports?

Yes! At the Blue Lagoon Beach Day, eat your lunch UNDER the canopies, not out by the trees! A sea gull swooped down and swiped the hot dog out my daughter's bun, :furious:RIGHT IN FRONT OF US! She was 20yo at the time, but was traumatized anyway, because when she was little, a sea gull tormented her and her friend one time at a beach LOL.

For an abridged explanation of what an FE is, go http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-cruise-line/meets.htm.

For further Fish Extender aka FE elucidation:
Each DCL stateroom has a sea-creature shaped "plaque" on the wall alongside their stateroom door. On the plaque is a little hook. Originally, the plaques were all shaped like a fish, but now with 4 ships, there has been diversification. Some are seahorses, and I think there are starfish as well. Officially, these are to aid the crew in leaving things for the people in that stateroom.

UNOFFICIALLY, these have been reimagined (if you will), by a group of cruisers, to add an little extra pixie dust, an extra level of fun, to their cruise. This original group of cruisers decided to exchange little gifts to each other's families. They decided to hang some sort of organizer/bag from the fish hooks, in which to collect said gifts, thereby 'extending' the functionality of the fish hooks, hence the term FE. In casual conversation, FE can refer to either the hanging bag/organizer, or to the gifts themselves. If you search online (i.e. google), you'll get lots of images of both FE bags/organizers, and gifts. Additionally, there are quite a number of threads here on the disboards themselves, devoted to both sides of the FE.

Once you have a group of people cruising on the same itinerary, who've found each other in the same forum (usually here on the disboards), someone will bring up the FE. Someone offers or is asked to organize a list, which includes the basic info (stateroom number, names of everyone in the cabin, kids' ages/genders) and can also include other info (if anyone's celebrating something, any allergies to alert others from giving any allergen-containing treat, favorite character if anyone wants to personalize what they give).

The FE organizers/bags can range from a simple tote bag, to a duct-tape creation, on up to customized, embroidered pockets, and can be home-made to ordered from a vendor on ebay or etsy.

The FE gifts are TOTALLY up to the givers. The only real rule is that anyone who is participating, is expected to give as well as receive. There can be controversy over this, but to set guidelines as to what/when/how to give is to detract from the very nature of the FE. Some people can and will spend a lot of time, money, effort, skill, whatever, into what they give, but others can't, don't, won't, or whatever, for whatever reasons. FE gifts can be homemade, handmade, custom-printed or sewn or crafted, or can be things from your local discount retailer, ordered from a crafter or artist, or almost anything or anyplace conceivable.

You can choose to give one gift per person, one gift per cabin, one gift to ALL the adults in a cabin and another to ALL the kids, one gift to all the girls and another to all the boys, one gift to all the little kids and a different gift to older kids, etc., etc. It's whatever you want to do.

When to give is also completely up to the giver - the only real rule here is that if it's something that could be used for some particular event during the cruise, that it be given in time for that. An example is something for Pirate night (such as glow sticks or temporary tattoos, both of which we've given and received on different cruises) - those would preferably be distributed well before that night, so that when the people go to their cabin to get ready for Pirate night, they would have them and can then use them for the party.

Most (but not all) gifts are themed to cruising, Disney, Disney cruising, or are a symbol of the giver's hometown.

You have to remember that there are all kinds of reasons why people choose what they do - whether they have or lack time, skills, money, patience, desire, space in their luggage, or whatever. The only reason to participate in the FE is for the fun of it, not to outdo anyone else.

FISH EXTENDER sign up Im willing to organize the fish extender gift exchange. Ive never done one before let alone organize one, but I can give it a try! I noticed that other FE groups seem to do it in Facebook so I've went ahead and started the group. For some reason the forum won't allow me to post the link for the Facebook group so you will need to search it out in Facebook. search the group in Facebook called: "February 26, 2014 Fish Extender Gift Exchange Bahamas Wonder"

Are you saying that you created another Fb group, separate from the cruise-group? That's new to me; the other cruise FE groups I participated in were organized within the one Fb group, on a document file that is part of Fb group features. Sometimes one person maintains the list and the group members just provide their info to that organizer. Other times, we've been responsible for making sure that our own info is on the Fb doc.

Thanks!

I would like to join the Fish Extender Group also, but none of the links are working for me. I get personal facebook profiles and error messages.

Please let me know when you are able to find the Fish Extender Group. I can't find it either for this cruise.

I was wondering if you are able to tell the order of nights for shows, pirate night and dress up night. We are booked on a later cruise and are not open for booking yet.

My on board schedule shows the Pirate night and deck party on Friday, Feb 28th, 2014

Has anyone going on this cruise reserved a family beach cabana at Castaway Cay yet? I'm interested in finding one to share with another family. This is our first cruise. Me, my husband and our two boys (1 1/2 yrs old and 4 yrs old). I'm mainly interested in one due to my youngest son needing a quiet and shady place to take a nap while on the beach. Otherwise, we may have to go back to the ship and not be able to enjoy the beach all day.

Please let me know if anyone is interested in letting us go in half with them on a rental. I keep looking everyday for any available and haven't found one open yet.

Please excuse these glitches, I'm not as computer savvy as my kids, so maybe I do have the security there set too high. It's now been reset to "Closed" so that "Anyone can see the group and who's in it. Only members see posts."

The February 26, 2014 - 4-Night Bahamian Cruise on Disney Wonder group's link is (I think) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1396771373894367/

If you still have trouble, try to find me on Fb as Max Schoenholtz https://www.facebook.com/max.schoenholtz or at my professional account (yeah, I'm probably that TA mentioned earlier lol) Fairytale Journeys by Max S. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fairytale-Journeys-by-Max-S/443555285722827?ref=hl

Thanks, Jessica Hanson Coyne, for alerting me to the problem. So sorry it took me all day to handle it, had a lot going on today. Car issues, we're getting a new fridge on Saturday (Idk what we were thinking when we chose this Saturday to get it delivered/installed ... two cabinets have to be removed to accommodate the new larger fridge tsk ... oh, wait, yes I do, I can't wait to have it and not use the old one LOL!), kid issues, etc., etc. :guilty:::sigh::

So please let me know if these changes work better! Even a PM here to let me know, since I don't come here as much as I do Fb. I will get an email alert if there's a PM for me here.

im anxiously waiting too! Must be a typo in the link or the security is set too high.

I know you were looking for the cruise group. The working link has now been posted in this forum. Look below, one of the last posts made. You can now join the group on Facebook.

Does anyone have the Personal Navigator for our cruise? I can't find it on the Disneycruiselineblog.com page. They have other Disney wonder cruises and Itineraries, but not ours. This is my first cruise, so anxious to get any and all information ahead of time as possible

i know you'll get one as soon as you arrive to board the boat. Im not sure if you can get our specific one ahead of time, but may be someone has an old one to show you. I put on the comment card at the end of our last cruise that it would be nice to have the navigator ahead of time to plan. Especially with little ones and nap times.
