We're really bummed about not going to Paradise Beach, too! What will everyone do on Costa Maya instead? I don't know anything about Costa Maya.

Lisa

Yea, we're bummed too. At least we're not going to Nassau (done that port enough in the last few years). From what I've read, there are some nice beach areas in Mahahual (just south of port). Not as nice a PB, but it should be a good day out.

I also looked at a Navigator from a December cruise that went to Costa Maya and they arrived at 10:30, but had to be back on board by 5:00 or 5:30 :sad2: . Just makes for a shorter beach day . . .

Check out Cruise Critic to see additional info about Costa Maya.

Before I reply to others... I hear a few talking about door posters & remember some from our last cruise, but forget HOW you would hang them up ?
I made a sign on our computer, printed it, went to Office Max and had it Laminated and then put magnet tape on the back. I believe that the room doors are metal.
Here is what our door will look like and what 1 shirt will be ....

I've been reading for a couple of weeks- we're so excited to go! It's been so helpful to "hear" what everyone says. :)
We're all 6 dressing up for pirate night- well, DH doesn't know it yet, but he has a shirt. Don't know how into it the kids will be- they are 5, 4, 3, and almost 2. Older 2 boys will love it.
Does anyone know what the temperature of the boat is? Should I pack long sleeves for everyone, are the dining areas cool... help! I have the kids clothes all ready, then I thought yikes- I'll need to redo!
Thanks!!
Jill

Welcome aboard... I'm new too :) But I'm telling ya.. by the time I"m done replying we're going to be on page 56!! :rotfl2: I was asking my hubby abou tthe temps too from the last Cruise.. and he remembers it being always warm. Even at night. But I'm sure we have more layers of "skin" than you do so we're always hot!! ha ha

Isnt it funny...we must all be on the same page or it is just some weird coincidence!! I just checked my Tivo also yesterday!! :cool1: Cat miss Survivor or Lost!! :)

I know that my vacation is close when I can actually take the door signs off the refrigerator that I've had made since Sept. and put them in the suitcase!!! YEA!!

I really can not wait to meet all of you!! Met beaner720 and her husband last weekend! What a super couple! Can't wait to meet the rest of you! :thumbsup2

Holli... When we went on our last cruise we didn't meet anyone. But we didn't exactly get out there and mingle. I thought... "What's the big hoopla everyone talks about in meeting new people". But NOW I KNOW!!! I'm so excited and can't wait to meet you all :)

Jeff and I met in the Massachusetts room on AOL and at the time I was setting up large get togethers for the people of Mass. so they could get together and meet safely. It was so much fun!! He came to the school I was interpreting at and paid me for a mini cruise and that was it!! Of course there's much more to the story, but we've been together ever since. :) He literally sent me bouquets of flowers to the school DAILY!!! It became the talk of the school as to what would come each day! :)

I love you sweetie!!

Us meeting on this cruise isn't much different than those days... except it's families and our kids can play together and we can have a ball!!! I"m so excited!! Eeeeek!!! :yay:

OMG Melanie.. that is beautiful!!! How are you all doing these???

We should all have something the same on our doors that we will recognize and know that that door is part of this little group here. :)

Ummm, unless you happen to be on the same floor, you will never see theirs outside of here {unless you plan on going hall walking} about 6 decks of rooms, maybe 1000 rooms & we occupy 40 rooms maybe.
They are just nice to have to decorate your home for the week...
Besides after a few frozen drinks, i'll need something so i know which room is mine :woohoo:

We're from Cols, OH. Also traveling w/ my parents, brother and SIL from NC, and brother, SIL, 2 nephews from WA. Family reunion! I'm not worried so much about off the boat, it was just on the boat. I tend to get chilly in AC and wondered if I need to overdress my kids due to my coldness. Can't wait! I loved the doorsign a couple of posts up- How can I make one too?
Thanks, Jill

PM Kim, Kshabare & send her your info & she'll add you to the list

Hi Jill! I bought Disney's Magic Artist Deluxe for the computer.(for the door signs) I putzed aorund with that and then bought some magnetic paper from Walmart and printed them out! It was alot easier than I thought it would be. I bought the Magic Artist Deluxe from Amazon.com.

Hi everyone!
I just got home from work to find 68 new posts since this morning. Its a good thing I can't access disboards from work or I would have got nothing done.

If anyone knows the best beach in Costa Maya could they tell me? I really liked the idea of Paradise Beach and thought it would keep the kids busy. I heard someone say that Costa Maya is like what Cozumel was 20 years ago. Well, I was there (Cozumel) twenty years ago when there was barely more than one road, not much shopping and definately not a place you would drink the water(beer yes - water - no)! Of course I was there about 9 years ago too but don't remember it (it must have been the tequila!). That's another story.

We are in the storm zone with Mr508 (call me Mrs603) and Kim & Family though I think it is expected to be worse south of us. Oh well, I will use the time stuck at home to pack.

Two weeks from now we will be on the plane. Any one else from Mass going on song around 2-3 pm?

Kathy

Hi Jill,
I used Sierra's print artist to make our sign and found a bunch of clip arts on the net, and fonts too. Then of course at my DS's book fair I saw ( and bought) Disney's Magic Artist too!! Both of my DS's love making the screen animate on the Disney program.
If you look at this dis board you can find info on down loadable graphics and making tye dye mickeys: See RJH8115 below

How old are your nephews? My DS's are 6.5 and 8.5 and are always looking to meet more kids to play games with (mostly cards!).

See You soon,
Ilene

To make my sign I just found clip art, backgrounds and other assorted images on the web. DH then put it all together for me in PaintShop Pro since I couldn't figure out how to get the darned background to print! LOL!

I am so computer illiterate- I may just try to cut out my own sign!! :)
My DN are just 6 (in Jan) and 3.9. DS is 5 1/2. I except our older boys will be together in the play area- would love to meet any others!

So, your family will be going to Mahahual then?

Yep, I think that will be our plan . . .

I think we will too! After reading this sounds great (no Paradise Beach, of course). This was the deciding factor after someone sent me this post:

Forget the overpriced packaged excursions (none of which are particularly good in this "port.") Instead,

1. Walk off ship.

2. Walk (or take shuttle) down the very long pier to the fake, tacky "port" area.

3. Walk completely through said fake "port" area (ignoring the flea-ridden pool and tacky shops) and exit to the transportation area.

4. To the right will be a stand selling shuttle bus tickets to the fishing village of Majahual, which is 1.5 miles to the south. Purchase and board air conditioned bus.

5. Take bus on short 3-4 minute ride to Majahual.

6. Exit bus, and purchase return ticket at stands before walking into Majahual (this will help you avoid lines at return time).

7. Enjoy Majahual -- which is literally like stepping into a Corona commercial. All along the main road in town are shops and beachfront restaurants, which in return for your buying nominal food or drink allow you to enjoy it while relaxing in their beachfront chairs and hammocks. Everyone who did this on our cruise last February said a laid-back morning or afternoon in Majahual made Costa Maya the "sleeper" port of the cruise. Great time, low cost, friendly locals, no rushing.

Wow, you've all been busy here! I had to catch up on reading the thread. We finally got our docs. and it looks like we may be going to Mahahual too. My dh doesn't like to venture out on his own, I told him it's only a few miles from port, so hopefully I can twist his arm! It looks like there may be a DIS beach party there.

I can't believe we leave in 2 weeks. We don't know how much snow we're getting tomorrow, but we may only end up with a few inches.

Stay warm!

Lisa

:wave2: Hello everyone and welcome all the newcomers.

Still not doing the doc dance :guilty: Called TA again but was only able to leave a message

I'm sorry to hear that we will not be going to Cozmel. Didn't book anything because I had a feeling this would happen. We may just stay on the ship that day and relax by the pool with drinks :drinking1

If there are any tiaras left I would love one princess:

rjh8115 - Your shirt and door sign came out great. Nice job :thumbsup2

2littlemonkeys - Your sign is also great. Nice job :thumbsup2

I have also made doorsigns, pillowcases and tshirts. They are a suprise for the family.

I can also bring Mardi Gras Beads

Really getting excited about the cruise. I can't believe we leave in 2 weeks :woohoo:

Yep, I think that will be our plan . . .

I"ve been reading the reviews at Cruise Critic about this place and soooo many people said not to book the beach excursion, to just go to the beach and pay as you go, it's cheaper. Even if it's all inclusive.. it's still cheaper to pay as you go.

many do recommend the David and Ivan RUINS excursion!! There are many but everyone recommends this duo for pirate: this particular excursion.
