February 25, 2006 Western Magic Cruisers!!

Is it my understanding that you "can't" bring back cuban cigars?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7 Day Disney Cruise
Each U.S. resident aboard Disney Cruise Line returning from the Caribbean to the U.S. can bring back up to $1,200.00 (U.S.) per traveler (and that includes up to $400.00 worth of on-ship purchases and up to $600.00 in purchases from the Bahamas). Each person 21 years of age or older is limited to (5) liters of alcohol (only (1) liter can be acquired on-board the ship or in the Bahamas); (5) cartons of cigarettes (of which only one is allowed to be from the Bahamas or on-board the ship); 100 cigars (excluding Cuban cigars). U.S. manufactured tobacco products that are purchased abroad can not be brought back into the U.S. These limits are mandated by U.S. Law and are subject to change.
You must declare all articles acquired during your trip and in your possession at the time of your return.
This includes:
* Articles that you purchased.
* Articles presented to you while abroad, such as wedding and birthday presents or inherited items.
* Articles purchased in duty-free shops or on board a carrier.
* Repairs or alterations made to any articles taken abroad and returned, whether or not repairs or alterations were free of charge.
* Items you have been requested to bring home for another person.
* All articles you intend to sell or use in your business. Promotional items and samples for Customs purposes are only those items that are valued at $1 or less.
In addition, you must declare any articles acquired in the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam or a country of the Caribbean Basin Economic Recovery Act and not accompanying you at the time of your return.The price actually paid for each article must be stated on your declaration in U.S. currency or its equivalent in the country of acquisition. The stated price must include any "value added tax" (VAT) if it was not refunded prior to arrival. If the article was not purchased, obtain an estimate of its fair retail value in the country in which it was acquired.Note: The wearing or use of any article acquired abroad does not exempt it from duty. It must be declared at the price you paid for it.
Family Declaration
The head of a family may make a joint declaration for all members residing in the same household and returning together to the United States. Family members making a joint declaration may combine their personal exemptions. For example, Mrs. Smith purchased an item for $600, but Mr. Smith only purchased $200 worth of merchandise. Mr. and Mrs. Smith may combine their $400 exemptions and will not have to pay duty on the items they acquired.
"Duty-Free" Shops
Articles bought in "duty-free" shops in foreign countries are subject to U. S. Customs duty and restrictions but may be included in your personal exemption .Articles purchased in U.S. "duty-free" shops are subject to U.S. Customs duty if reentered into the United States. Example: Liquor bought in a "duty-free" shop before entering Canada and brought back into the United States may be subject to duty and Internal Revenue Tax.
Note: Many travelers are confused by the term "duty-free" as it relates to shops. Articles sold in duty-free shops are free of duty and taxes only for the country in which that shop is located. Articles sold in duty-free shops are intended for export and are not to be returned to the country of purchase. So if your purchases exceed your personal exemption, that item may be subject to duty. Articles acquired in a U.S. duty free shop before you left the United States, may be included in your exemption.
Payment of duty, required at the time of your arrival on articles accompanying you, may be made by any of the following ways:
* U.S. currency (foreign currency is not acceptable).
* Personal check in the exact amount of duty, drawn on a national or state bank or trust company of the United States, made payable to the "U.S. Customs Service."
* Government check, money orders or traveler's checks are acceptable if they do not exceed the duty amount by more than $50. [Second endorsements are not acceptable. Identification must be presented; e.g. traveler's passport or driver's license.]
* In some locations you may pay duty with credit cards from Mastercard or VISA.
Check In
Of all the Disney resort experiences, we have found check-in at Disney Cruise Line to be virtually painless, and very quick.
Just like at airports, you'll first pass through a security screening. From there its up the escalator (or elevator) to the check-in area. Here you'll find a long counter manned by some of the friendliest Cast Members you'll find at Disney.
In order to make this as effortless and quick as possible, have all of the forms in your cruise packet filled out beforehand. Every member of your party does need to do this.
Also be sure to you fill out your US Customs paperwork (also included in your packet), and ensure that everything is properly signed.
You need to have the proper ID for every member of your party. Drivers license or government issued picture ID and either a birth certificate or passport is required. All U.S. citizens are required to carry proof of citizenship.
These include one of the following:
* Valid U.S. Passport (not expired)***
* Original Birth Certificate - State Certified (i.e. issued by the state, city or county and have a raised seal or a certified stamp), with acceptable picture identification.
* Copies of birth certificates without a raised seal or certified stamp are not acceptable
* Hospital birth certificates are not state certified; therefore, they are not acceptable
* Certified Naturalization Certificate, with acceptable picture identification
NOTE: Guests age 17 and under who are U.S. citizens are only required to have proof of citizenship, excluding picture identification.
Starting on 12/31/06 everyone is required to have a Passport. Please check the regulations set forth by the US Department of State
This is the single most important item in ensuring a smooth check in. If you do not have the proper identification with you at check in, you will not be allowed to board. These are US Government regulations, not the Cruise Line.
We've never had late seating on DCL, but there should be enough time to finish dinner before the major evening events. You shows will be before dinner.
Looking at the Navigator,
1st seating has late shows,
2nd seating has early shows
most events don't seem to start til 9:30,
probably after 2nd seating ends
Even Pirates night starts at 9:45 pm
Thanks - my wife (Sharon) had just read a report from a cruise in 2005 where the author said that they had problems making various activities, etc because thay had a late dinner seating. It was one of those "wow, oh!?!?!?!" moments - LOL! Like I said, now into information overload!!!
Correct, no Cuban cigars back into the US. You need to smoke-em before you get back to PC . . .
We were thinking a little more about this ............ We weren't worried about the shows as we knew that we could go to the early one, it was more the activities that occur later in the evening. I seem to recall reading that the dinners could take upwards of 2 hours. Given a dinner time of 8:30 PM, I could see why the person who wrote the report said that they missed some of the evening activities like Pirate Night. She probably didn't make it outside until 10 - 10:30 PM. Bummer ........... still, we don't want to rush dinner .............
This says Jeans are acceptable... is this true, or old ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Theme Dinners

On both the Disney Wonder and the Magic, a "Pirates of the Caribbean" evening is featured. A pirate themed dinner is followed by a deck party featuring Captain Hook. Guests are welcome to wear pirate attire if they'd like. Menu

DINING DRESS CODE

As part of the "Cruise Casual" policy, it is asked that you do not wear tank tops, swimwear or shorts to the dining rooms. Jeans are allowed.

The evening's attire is determined by the day, not the restaurant. On the 7 day cruises you will have a formal night, semi-formal, Pirate/tropical night and four "Cruise Casual" nights. (Disney Cruise Line will provide a brochure for tuxedo rentals prior to your cruise.)

On the 3 and 4 day cruises you will have one night that is designated "dress-up." Gentlmen will be asked to wear a jacket and ladies either a dress or pantsuit.

As noted above, Palo has it's own dress policy.

Yes, jeans are acceptable in the main dining rooms on all nights except formal and semi-formal. They are not acceptable in Palo. This was a recent change DCL made based on guest feedback.

On October 1, 2005 the Disney Magic was in to Dry Dock. The following changes were made:

* Vista Spa and Salon Expansion: Three indoor/outdoor spa suites were added that include a private verandah, personal hot tub and open air shower.
* A 24' by 14' jumbo LED screen was installed on deck 9. It is attached to the forward funnel and will be used to show movies and broadcast major sporting events and shows. It will also be used to enhance the special entertainment in the Goofy pool area
* Three conference rooms on deck 2 were added to the children's programs. This new Ocean Quest center will feature a replica of the ship's bridge with simulation games which allows kids to steer a cruise ship in and out of ports
* Castaway Ray's Stingray Adventure on Castaway Cay will feature a 60 minute session in the stingray lagoon. It includes an educational orientation, feeding, hands-on interaction and snorkeling. This program was developed under the supervision of the Living Seas in Epcot.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DRESS POLICY CHANGE
Jeans are now acceptable attire under the revised "Cruise Casual" dress policy. It is still requested that guests do not wear shorts, swimwear or tank tops to the dining rooms.
The attire is determined by the day, not the restaurant with the exception of Palo. The seven night cruise has a formal night, semi-formal night, pirate/tropical night and four "Cruise Casual" nights.
On the 3 and 4 day cruises there is one night where "dress-up" attire is requested. Men are asked to wear a jacket while ladies are asked to wear either a dress or nice pantsuit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PALO DRESS CODE
During dinner, gentlemen will be required to wear a dress shirt. Gentlemen wearing polo shirts, t-shirts, Tommy Bahama style shirts, etc will not be allowed admittance. Jackets and/or ties are still recommended but not required. Notices will be in the Personal Navigator, on the Palo reservation card and a sign outside the elevators on deck 10 will contain this dress advisory. The Resort Casual dress code for both the brunch and high tea remains unchanged.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SODA PROGRAM
Self serve soda dispensers have been installed at the deck 9 beverage station, Topsiders, Beach Blanket Buffet and on Castaway Cay by Cookies BBQ. Soft drinks are complimentary at these locations. Soda served at full serve bars/lounges will still have a fee.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
DISNEY MAGIC – CASUAL DINING
Casual dining in Topsiders aboard the Magic is now full serve instead of buffet at dinner.

Who will still be around at the computer Fri night? Just me??! :scratchin
I better get all my questions in before then!!!

Karen,
Yep, you could be the last one around a computer on Friday evening. We're outta here at lunch time on Friday. How cool to have lunch in Detroit and dinner in Orlando. How about breakfast in Orlando, lunch in Port Canaveral, and dinner at sea somewhere between PC and Key West . . . .

Travel is so cool!

Thanks a bunch for finding this! Such cool changes.

Yes, I am a scrapbooker, Crissy and Sally, BUT I am in a creative slump. I think it is because I am so focused on the trip. I just couldn't make a sign I was happy with to save my life. LOL!

I am still not happy with it. Something is just not right, well, other than the lack of photos I usually have. :teeth: But thanks! I actually designed all of the elements from scratch with Photoshop. It is from a pirate kit I sell at an online store. I think I am better at designing than actually scrapbooking. Anyway, we love pirate stories, so we are excited about the pirate party. pirate:

I'll still be here Friday night for a check in. We leave very early Saturday morning, so probably won't have time to check this board before heading to the airport. For those leaving before Friday evening, see you on the "Magic".

Safe Travels for those of you leaving before Saturday am.
