Hi experts!! I need some advice. We want to do another trip to WDW before our oldest turns 10, so that means either next February or 2021.

I think Star Wars land opens in late 2019, so I'm worried February 2020 will be insane. Then I read that 2021 is a big anniversary year, and I thought it may be insane.

Bottom line, do you think one will be worse than the other? We would like to see star wars land, but will only be at HS for one day probably. We tend to go before Presidents Day weekend.

Thanks for your help!

I honestly doubt that the crowds generated by Galaxy's Edge are going to calm down much by February 2021. Pick whichever year works better for you. I'd go in 2020 if I had to choose between the two, simply because (like all things in life) you never know what might come up or change if you put it off.

I would go with 2021 due to SWGE having just opened.
I agree the crowds will still parobably be high by 2021, but i expect them to be much worse Feb 2020.

Really? I didn't pay a ton of attention but wasn't Avatar impossible to get into for the first while, but after a year you could at least enter the land? My husband and son would like to see it, but my son is only 4 now and won't be able to handle a 5 hour line just to get into the land. I get rides might be impossible in 2021 but I thought it might not be as crazy.....

Delay to 2021. Give the newness of SWGE time to lessen slightly.

There will be more attractions open in Feb 2021, but my guess is that crowds will be higher due to 50th anniversary. I'm sure Galaxy's Edge will still have very high crowds in Feb 2020, but I doubt there will be a line just to get into the land at that point. I think that was only opening weekend in Pandora. Flight of Passage lines are still crazy long, so that will most likely be the case for Galaxy's Edge attractions for a very long time. So my personal vote would be 2020, but really, it's whatever works better for you. There will be plenty to do and crowds to manage with either choice.

I was faced with the same choice Feb 2020 or 2021 and I have already started planning 2021. And even if they did any 50th Anniversary stuff that early its got to be better than right after Galaxy's Edge opens up. By 2021 I expect Disney will have all of the kinks worked out and you would be able to read on this board 1st hand hints about what to do or not do. We go for 10 to 12 days and last night my daughter suggested that we do 3 days at HS instead of MK to make sure we got everything done.

It’s expected festivities will begin in the Summer.

Also other on going projects (and upcoming projects) will be completed by February 2021.

Yes, that is why I suggested Feb 2021 as most of the projects will be done. And the crowds won't be around for the 50th until the summer.

2021

That’s when we are planning though there might be TOO many new things ( Toy Story will be “new” to us )

2021.

We are planning late sept 2021. (Our original plan was 2018 and instead we are waiting till 2021.)

You could also hit an influx of people who wanted to wait, like us, so it might be six of one, half dozen of another...

I am waiting for 2021. June 2021 to be exact. It seems so far away but I want to wait for Star Wars hype to die down a bit and for more new stuff to be open.

When in feb 2021? Mardi Gras week & presidents week will be the same week in 2021 so I’d stay far away from that week for sure!

Go with whatever works best for you. The crowds aren’t going anywhere unless we hit a recession.

2020 we have more openings coming and even more in 2021. People are going to keep coming.

I agree with this. While the "newness" of Star Wars GE will have died down a bit by 2021, it still will have been one of the biggest things to have happened in a while for Disney, and lots of people still won't have had a chance to visit it yet. It will be bigger than Avatar no doubt.
Disney World will be packed from here on out. So while 2021 may have even more new stuff, you're going to be facing big crowds everywhere. So go when is best for you.

We usually go around the superbowl so we are gone by presidents week.

It's hard. I'm afraid if we go next year we won't even be able to see star wars land. And if we wait, the kids will be older and we can have longer days.

I guess it's a crap shoot either way. Maybe we will flip a coin?

I expect HS to be nuts. I just hope we will still be able to have a good time in the other parks. We've had such good Disney vacations (one in 2015 and one in 2017) that I'm worried about how the next one will go with all the crowds.

The rides could still have very high waits in either year. FOP can still reach 4 hours, but getting a fast pass for it is a lot easier. I would go in 2020. It'll still probably be really busy, but if you have a longer stay you could probably get a fast pass near the end of your trip and not have to worry about standing in a long line. 2021 is their 50th anniversary I bet it'll be crowded for that.

I'm anticipating more crowds related to Star Wars than to anniversary celebration stuff; mostly because Star Wars will no doubt attract folks who aren't Disney regulars. I'm concerned that it might be dangerously crowded in 2020 but hopefully just super crowded in 2021. I don't expect that many vacationers who aren't Disney regulars will be as aware of the anniversary, even if they continue to advertise to mainstream media (the way they have for SWGE).

I'm undecided yet - my AP will last through April 2020 but as an out of state teacher, the only times I can swing a visit will be MLK or President's Day weekend (which are crowded as it is)
