Hi there! I have been to Disneyland several times, but almost always in the summer (once at Christmas). For various reasons, I am considering early Feb. 2016 for our (me, my DD6 and my DS7) next trip. Can anyone tell me anything about this time of year? Is early Feb. less crowded than at other times? I heard that Super Bowl Sunday is a quiet day - is that true? Are there typically lots of rides closed at that time? Are there particular rides that are always closed in early Feb., or does it change depended on the year? Would Fantasmic!, Paint the Night, and the new fireworks still be showing on weekends? Any other thoughts or tips about February? Thanks SO much!

I have been in early February. It was 2012 so many things may have changed but here is what I experienced:

  1. It was cold during the mornings
  2. I didn't experience rain in the parks, but the day I left it was raining pretty hard.
  3. It was less crowded than my June trip.
  4. Haunted mansion was closed because they were taking the holiday overlay down. I only remember that being down, but since it is "slow" season I would expect more refurbs.
  5. Fantasmic! and Fireworks were shown during weekends

If you want nice weather and less crowds I would go on September just after labor week and before all the halloween parties start. I loved going in Sepetember :)

That is usually a time when rides are down for refurb because it is considered "slow time" and early may have a few more still taking Christmas overlays down, I don't know when they announce the refurb schedule but I think there was a lot of stuff down this year to get ready for the 60th so maybe it won't be horrible next year but IDK for sure

February is considered part of the non-peak season, so crowds should be on the low side, but the trade-off is the parks are generally operating on a reduced schedule (i.e., shorter hours and less entertainment). There will likely be some attraction refurbishments (but that can happen at any time in truth). You can look at the 2015 Calendar of Events to get a sense of the things that might be happening in February (I'm still working on the 2016 version of the calendar). HydroGuy also has a thread that has links to the historical calendars (as compiled by wdwinfo), which can help you get a sense of the hours, entertainment, and refurbishments that have happened in the past.

Historically, fireworks, F!, and Mad T Party have only been presented on weekend nights (Fri to Sun), while WoC was presented nightly during the non-peak periods. However, DLR already announced that fireworks and PtN would be nightly during HalloweenTime (traditionally considered non-peak as well). So it's not known if the nightly presentation of fireworks and PtN will continue throughout the Diamond Anniversary Celebration or not.

The crowds during the Super Bowl will depend on who is playing. But it has slowly gotten more and more crowded the last 7-8 years or so.
