February 2012 Car Rentals

I just booked a compact car from MCO round trip on Hotwire - Feb 5 - 28 for $9.95/day.
Turned out to be Alamo, in terminal. That's a $28/day savings over what I've been looking at for the last fee weeks.

Wow! That's a great rate! Have you ever used Hotwire before. I plugged in my dates and they are much cheaper - but I'm concerned about hidden fees, tec when I go to pick up the car. Any info would be appreciated - TIA :goodvibes

I just booked an Economy car from Alamo picking up at MCO on 2/2 at 3:00 PM and returning to MCO on 2/9 at 7:00 PM for 80.38 TOTAL! Yeah, it's a tiny car, but for $80 we'll survive :)

Hi! What cods and coupon are these from? I'm impressed with the HUGE savings I just got however I'm afraid they don't apply to me....

Thanks all you car rental gooroos! tehe

It doesn't matter what code I use. Even if I just use my insider's code, I get the same rate. Maybe they aren't discounting the codes yet?

Try booking with a return time that is a few hours after your pick up time (I am picking up at noon and returning at 1pm a week later. That's cheaper than a 12pm-12pm time. Crazy!).

I currently have Alamo reserved for a standard car for $284 after taxes for February 10-20. Hotwire has a full size for the same dates for $216. Should I grab that rate, or take my chances to see if rates will go down? So far, they have only gone up. Also, with my Alamo rate, that does include an additional driver. I hate to get locked in to something and then have rates go down right after....like it did with my airfare. :headache:

Personally . .. .if it were me I'd wait. I've gotten a rental from MCO for the last several years (3-4) and I ALWAYS get a Mid-size for around $100-$120. Last May it was $80. I really think that your rate will go down.

But do what you are comfortable with.

10 days for $168.80 with taxes included. Corporate ID # and coupon code is listed on Costco.com. I then book on Alamo directly using the #'s. This will only work if you are a Costco member since the reservation says you must show Costco card.

My Alamo rate for 2/25-3/3 dropped by $20 (was $186, now $165) used a code for Visa cardholders and a $30 coupon (both found on Visa site). I am picking up at MCO but dropping off at TPA.

What size car are you getting? I'm looking at 2/21-3/6 and while I realize it's an extra week, my rates aren't coming anywhere near yours (also using Visa Codes). Thanks!

The prices have come down each of the past 3 days for my Standard car rental starting at 2:30pm Sat., Feb. 4th and ending at 4pm Sat., Feb. 11th. I'm using my Alamo Insiders discount plus the $35 off weekly rental coupon code AD2359FDF. I'm currently booked for about $122 total!

I booked a "standard". I got that rate the day I posted, but they've been way up ever since. I check daily to see if they go down.

My standard rental through Alamo for 2/3-2/11 dropped to $126.14 total for a fullsize using Contract ID 7014136 and Coupon Code AD2359FDF, that's a $50 drop

I use Hotwire for car rentals all the time (couple/few times a year for the last several years), and I've never had a problem. No hidden fees, and they also offered their own potentially cheaper insurance if I was inclined to choose it.

Big fan of Hotwire.

My rate for national just dropped Jan 31-Feb 7 mid-size (emerald aisle) to $118 including taxes and fees using coupon ND8598AAP and contract id 5004279. :cool1:

My rate from a couple days ago was $213 including taxes and fees

I have an Alamo insider number, a corporate ID # for Costco membership and a separate discount code that is not with Costco for $35 off that someone posted earlier. Can you use all 3 of these at the same time. It appears when I enter the info. that it is accepted. Am I right to assume if a coupon code was invalid or if this were not possible, it would state that on the booking? Thanks.

If you're using Alamo play around a little with the pick up and drop off locations. After reading one of the earlier posts I decided to experiment a little. We want to use ME so we're picking the car up after we get to the resort, and dropping it off the night before we leave to make things less hectic on checkout, no Saturday night stay so we can't use most of the coupons.

February 12 pick up - 4pm - Disney Car Care Center

Had selected February 17th drop off - 4pm - Disney Car Care Center and for lack of a better coupon was using the Alamo Insider 10% off plus the 2 level upgrade to get a Standard car at a Compact rate. So far the best I'd found was $256.93.

By changing it so we drop the car off at the Dolphin Resort instead our new rate is now $207.42 - The Car Care Center is open later, in theory the Dolphin Kiosk closes at 4pm but I was still able to enter a drop off time of 4pm without getting the message I got when I tried later times (kiosk will be closed, ask when picking up the car what your special instructions for drop off are etc). I had planned to drop the car off a bit before 4pm so we didn't incure late fees so nothing really changes. Best part is, I can take the boat from the Dolphin to Epcot where we had planned to take advantage of EMH and a dinner reservation. If we'd dropped off at the Car Care I'd have had to take the shuttle back to some resort or DTD and then go to Epcot.

Thank you Hotwire :thumbsup2 Prices out of Tampa have been soooo high. Even hotwire was $23/day for a compact yesterday. Today I went to hotwire and got a Alamo compact for $10.95/day for Feb 11th thru 18th ($137 including taxes). :cool1::cool1::cool1:

That's very similar to prepaid rate on expedia.ca from Feb 11 -18th with Budget for $126.22CAN inc taxes. US residents can book on there as well.

Everyone should check Alamo again. The rates for my mini-van haven't gone down but the rates for the other, smaller cars have. Midsize car rates have dropped more. Just make sure to play around with drop off and pick up times a little to find your lowest rate. Strangely, my price is lower if I drop off a few hours after I pick up.

What in the world is going on with the rental prices?! I wasn't planning in a rental this trip, but just found out I will have to have a car for at least 2/23. Cheapest I can find is $70! In Nov. I had an economy with Alamo for $86 for 5 days.

I guess I'm back to checking every day again. I had hoped to use Alamo Insiders again, but that may not be an option.

I need an economy for 2/23, returning 2/24 to the CCC or 2/23-2/28 MCO-MCO. Any deals I am missing?

Still looking for a mini van rate for 2/11-2/21/12
Best we have still is with Budget $442 with the IDs mentioned on page 1.
