February 2010

We will be at All Star Movies from Feb 6-11! My first trip since I was in highschool and my twin girls (age 7) FIRST TRIP EVER to DW!!!! Under 20 days...

We're staying there too, missing you by a week though! Have a fantastic trip! So excited for you and your girls!!

Hello everyone...

I just returned home yesterday from an 8day/7night stay at Wilderness Lodge, it was wonderful and I can't wait to go back!!

However, while we were there my mom purchased my daughter a Minnie Mouse ballerina ornament. It was a glass ball with Minnie on top tying her ballerina shoe, and my mom had it personalized with my daughter's name plus little hearts etc. Well we drove all the way from Florida back home to Texas and the ornament was fine. Then today I heard a crash in the kitchen, my 3 year old son had pulled the box off the counter and unwrapped the paper the ornament was in, and the ornament fell out of the paper and shattered on my tile floor.... so I am willing to Paypal someone the cost of the ornament 12.95 plus the 3.00 personalization fee and tax, plus extra for shipping to Texas and your trouble. If I could purchase this ornament online I would, but I cannot find it anywhere, and from what I understand it is only available for purchase inside the park. I am very upset over this, and I don't want my mom to find out because she was so excited about the ornament.

Is anyone willing to help a devastated mom out? Thanks in advance!

Maybe I'm missing something having never gone to Disney as an adult, but what should I be busily preparing/packing before I leave? Any insight would be welcome. Thanks!

My husband and I are staying at WL Feb. 1-8. We are planning on watching the superbowl in our room. It would be fun to watch it with other fans though.

The lounge at WL is very nice... thanks for the thought! :cool1:

Have you got a few hours? It took me about 4-5 hours to go through the thread I'm going to link, but there is a wealth of information in it. I took a lot of notes. We'll see if they pay off when I take my first trip in 3 weeks!

I was given a number during my last saty that I was told I could order ANYTHING from that was sold at WDW - before you send someone you do not know any money, let me look for that number and I will post if for u - kids are sleeping in that room right now, but I will check tomorrow a.m.

I just found out about the shuttle Launch on Feb 7 at 4:39 a.m. - this may be old news, but thought I'd post it...

YES! There is a Disney merchandise # to order stuff from the parks. You can also use this # to ask them where to find particular stuff you want to buy while at WDW. Here it is: 1-407-363-6200.
I used it to order a Mickey big figure that I saw at an AK store & didn't buy while there. Once I got home, I regretted not buying it. I was able to order it thru this #.

Convention/Conference Alert

In addition, to the National Dance Team Championships taking place at Wide World of Sport and DHS on the weekend of the 5-7th, I just found out from a lawyer friend of mine that the American Bar Association has their mid year meetings at Walt Disney World Feb 3-9th. About 3000 lawyers are convening at the Dolphin. Families are also welcome. So it's entirely possible that anywhere from 3000-8K more people will be in the parks. Dispersed in the 4 parks it would add at the most 2000 people to each park--really not that bad. I don't know if the Dolphin is the host hotel as far as where people are staying, but you can expect the Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin and Yacht and Beach Club to be a bit busier. Usually when there are large conventions at the Dolphin, ESPN, Jellyrolls and some of the restaurants are a bit busier as well.

Just a heads up.

Cheerleading competitions

On both the weekend of the 5th-7th and the 12-14th, there are Cheerleading/Dance Championships. The competitions are held at both the Wide World of Sports and DHS. At DHS, they use the Indiana Jones Facility. DHS is also typically used as a transportation hub with special buses transporting people to and from the WWoS for the competition. I'm not sure of the total number of people each weekend it adds but 300 teams compete each weekend.

Try and avoid DHS on Saturday for sure and Sunday if you can.

Cheerleaders and families start arriving on Thursday and usually leave Monday or Tuesday.

I'm missing one of the cheering competitions and the lawyer meeting:cool1: But I'll be there for the second cheer competition, but that's president's day weekend anyway so I'm sure a bunch of extra cheerleaders won't really effect it too much

He guys. Just found this thread and began reading:surfweb:. Also started reading a little each day of Jordans report:worship:. Its great and gets me in the mood.

We will be at Saratoga Villas then TreeHouses from 6-13. Have not been to the villas in 3 years, but never at the treehouses.

Disneylovin24 :love:I noticed you were there last year. Any tips?? I think its bigger or I should say complete since we were there last. I hope we are near the pool/bus stops.

One last question: has anyone heard anything about disney dollars? They discontinued them in the stores but we were told they would still be in the parks. I have not gotten confirmation of this. I like my kids to use them while we are there to curb spending. I just want to be prepared for whatever.

As far as the cheerleaders:cheer2:, they are there every year we go and you will see a lot of them at the Pop, and other value resorts, warming up and hanging around. I also saw groups of them in DHS but rarely on the rides. I think they get a little time in between to hang out and see somethings, but they are usually quite busy with the competition.

As far as the Lawyer convention, that could be a whole other ballgame. There is also a softball competition on presidents day weekend. I dont know how much that will affect things. That is at WWS so many of them may be off site.

We're going to be at POP Jan 31-Feb 6th. What kind of impact does anyone think it will have on us?

I don't know if any of you play Toontown online, but hearing that there will be a lawyer convention there made me visualize lawbot cogs walking the parks streets.

this is my TOTALLY novice thought on conventions and crowds

Since Orlando is a convention hot spot there is ALWAYS some type of gathering going on. Every time we have gone there has been a group of something, be it runners (adult - for dis marathons etc and high school track teams), dancers, cheerleaders and more than I can mention. So I never really include it as "ADDING" to park attendance but something that is already in the expected crowd level for any given day. thoughts???
