FEBRUARY 2008 WDW travelers post HERE!!!

WE were thinking of flying and were going to have to rent a car for a day too, but now we are driving so it's not a big issue. We plan to go visit Give Kids the World where we stayed for DD10's Make a Wish trip back in 2002. We visited the past 2 times we came too. It is a WONDERFUL place about 15 minutes w/ traffic and lights , from Disney, in Kissimmee. I am hoping on that day we can find the Disney outlet too. Just thought we'd check it out!! But if not, that is OKAY!! More inclined to visit GKTW and have an ice cream and look for her "star" in the Castle of Miracles, let them putt putt and check out the Gingerbread house restaurant(it really looks like a big gingerbread house complete with real candy that has been encased in some kind of clear plastic molding) and ride the carousel. It is a gorgeous subdivision made just for MAW kids. I suggest visiting to ANYONE though who has a couple free hours on thier trip. It is a very fulfilling place to be, complete with chapel. No mention of illness. Just a peaceful beautiful place TEEMING with life and gorgeous kids! There are soo many surprises that MAW kids/families do not tell other MAW kids/families what to expect, so it doesn't ruin the surprise!!

Hi, it's me again. I thought of another question.

We are just shuttling from the airport and don't plan on renting a car. However, for our "rest day" I would really like to pick some fresh oranges. I see there is a PYO grove just 10 minutes from Disney. Are there buses or shuttles or anything to area attractions? Or can we rent a car for just a single day at the hotel (Pop Century)? Perhaps a taxi?

Missy, I would suggest to ask this question on the Transportation board. There are quite a few very knowledgable people who will give you all the options. You can rent a car at WDW at the Dolphin and at the Car Care Center (at the MK). The Car Care Center will come and pick you up at your WDW hotel. There is also a website where you can calculate taxi fares in Orlando (I just can't find it right now), but those people on the Transportation board will know for sure.

Hello everyone - I think I have to say sorry to everyone planning to meet on February 2.

I was the one who started the discussion about moving the meet forward because of Wishes at 6:45 pm. Well, it now appears that unlike last year they will not show Wishes before the PPP!!!!! I am certain that the calendar on the WDW site had Wishes there when I planned my trip, especially because those were the nights I picked to see Wishes and now I have no Wishes planned at all!!! I think I might have to change some ADRs to be able to see it!

Also, I just called and got 15% off of our tour and DH's golf!!! With AAA there is a diamond card - who knew?? that came with all our final docs!!! Yay - every little bit saved is a good thing!!

Sorry to hear that WendyPooh. I feel for ya..I agree..the crappy weather is wreaking havoc on the body. I mean..it was 24 degrees..2 days later..80 degrees..and today..woke up and it was 65 in the house..so a cold spell came trough again. Go to bed with A/C..wake up and need the heater..crazy..

Just agreeing with ya' - Crazy! How can anyone stay well with the crazy weather we've been having?

Yah!!! On top of both of my children having penumonia, I now have laryngitis. What else can I do at this point except cry or laugh. Again, better now than later. I probably won't have my voice for another week. Can't work...I am a counselor and teacher..so this will put a hurting on the paycheck..UGH..and the disney trip. Prayers please...We did not come this far to have it pulled from under us...

We finally finished our countdown poster..DS and DD are excited now. I just got a poster board and printed some numbers with various Disney characters and cut and pasted to the board. Now they want to rip into it.

Hey..my step-mom's mother was from Raceland. They still go visit family there. Maybe you know them. I will have to find out her maiden name though. Her married name is Waddle. Know any of them?

Hi everyone! I received my documents today. It was POURING down rain on the way home from work and I just knew they were going to be there. I hoped to get home before my husband and my boys to check since this is a surprise trip. We arrived at the same time. Of course their favorite thing to do is check the mail. I told them since it's raining so hard, I would get it. I walked briskly inside and brought all the mail to my bedroom. I opened the envelope and laid everthing out on my bed just staring at it and enjoying the moment. I quickly looked over everything making sure it was correct and put it away for safe keeping.
It'll be here before we know it.

I found these directions from someone on Dis. Maybe this is the post you are talking about too?

a great shortcut to Disney and 192W in Kissimmee. If you are travelling from the north, driving on the Florida Turnpike, you will come to a new toll way when you almost reach I-4. It is 429 that was just opened and it skirts the top of Disney property. There is a Disney dedicated exit that lets you out on Western Way that intersects with Buena Vista Blvd, which is a main artery through Disney property. If you want to go to Animal Kingdom or the Lodge, just turn right and you are about 3/4 of a mile away. If you want to go to Downtown Disney, the Swan, Dolphin or any other resort, turn left. This allows you to miss all of the traffic on I-4 that can be extremely congested and makes the wait to get to Disney even longer! If you stay at any of the resorts off of Disney property that are on the west of I-4 off of 192, this is a great way to get there, too. It intersects 192 about a mile east of Orange County Lake Resort. If you go to the left, you will find the Westgate resorts. We noticed the construction of the road last year and were thrilled that it was opened this year. It has not been discovered by many as of yet; we counted only nine cars from the Turnpike to the Disney exit!
