FEBRUARY 2008 WDW travelers post HERE!!!

You can put HKruns in for 2/3 to 2/10, staying at POFQ.

This is my first real vacation at DW, but I've stayed at POFQ once for a meeting, and once for the WDW marathon, and I liked it more than Coronado.

Harriet
Hi Harriet! I did the half marathon w/ Team in Training waaayyyyy back in 2003. I trained for the whole, but DD, now 9, had fever and was put in the hospital, so i missed my long runs/walks and was scared to do the full(my first) only having gone 13.1 at the most. I figured I'd be safe and NOT miserable the next day if I stuck to the half, so I changed about 3 weeks before.
Anyway-I am glad I am not the only one who wasn't crazy over a hotel at Disney. I did NOT like POR. I got lost EVERY time I went back to my room. Everything looks the same and the layout, to me, was confusing. The rooms seemed not much bigger than the value. Just more elegant-which, for me , I did not care. We went to CS for the marathon check in and an after party, it was pretty, but I have never stayed there. I got off at POFQ(gorgeous place and very homey) by RIGHT after the marathon. Some people, seeing that I had just done the race, said, "hey why don't you just walk it? It 's only another mile away!". I laughed with them "hahaha!" and got on the next BUS back(crazy people:lmao: ). I was freezing (I freeze easily) and all I wanted was a hot shower(even though the trainers told me NOT to) and a bed, as I went to bed at midnight the night before and was up by 3am to go "herd" up!

It is my goal to get a Mickey medal sometime in my life. My reason for NOT doing it now is that I am not up to raising $3800 for TNT at this point in my life. I would LOVE to do this with my family one day with maybe 1 of us running for TNT and fundraising. The rest can go on our own dime.
PLUS exersize has been a luxury in the past 2 years. Not often enough.:sad2:

It's just time to move on to more positive things in our life. I'd like to focus more on the good things that came out of having a kid with cancer. Like Give Kids the World or Make a Wish. We have given 100% of ourselves to the effort of eradicating cancer for 7 years now. I am here for those who need HOPE, BUT my focus has to be more positive now for myself and my family. It always, still, breaks my heart to the core.
Lori

I have a Mickey medal and a Donald Duck (for those of you who are not runners, the Mickey is for the marathon and the Donald is for the half). My marathoning days are in the past now, but I do love halfs. The family had a choice of the week before 2/2 or the week after, because I'm doing a trail half in Orlando that day (there's also a concurrent trail marathon, 10K and 5K).

I did both WDW races with friends so that we could split expenses. We also bought park passes but barely used them. Especially after 26 miles, all I wanted to do was eat and nap. But I loved the races, especially having the CM's there to use your own camera to take pictures of you with the characters. And the giant loudspeakers with canned cheering and applause! Expensive but very well done, like all things Disney.

Harriet

Hi Harriet- congrats on both-that is FABULOUS!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

I LOVED it and will do it again one day!! Mickey medal- here I come(it will be a while though!!). I WILL do it for TNT-you raise, they pay for your airfare/hotel/2 meals/marathon stuff. I LOVED raising $$$ for it -we had a reason and still do(PRAISE the Lord:cheer2: ), but like I said, I need to focus on the GOOD stuff that came out of all that!

Anyway- Sabrina- I am done. My DD's and I have made our countdown calendar(the furthest out EVER)... drum roll please:scared: ......

(DD9 has a cold and not feeling great-hence the scared look on her face of me taking pictures so early in the morning! She did not sleep well.)

What do you think???

I will make a decoration for our door too at WDW(there is a WHOLE thread about doing it and even a decoration swap like the fridge swaps;) )
that will be made form the same gold painted cardboard(GOLD is for childhood cancer awareness)-a BIG metallic gold Mickey head on our door!!!

I love it Lori!!! Its cute! Your kids are adorable too!! I better get moving on mine. I will be on the lookout for the gold decorated window at POP in 141 more days!! Woo~Hoooo :cool1: I'm heading over to find the POP decorating window swap..

Oh Lori I love the calendar. The girls did a great job. Do you happen to have a link to the thread on decorations?

Thanks Lori. I forgot that thread was still here. I used it for our last trip in November. I think I was the only one who decorated at ASM Suites. At least mine was the only room window I saw. I'm so looking forward to staying at POP because it seems more people decorate there. Now I just need some good ideas for Mardi Gras.

We decorated for Halloween(but just a little) at ASsp, and for Mardi Gras(also just a little) at ASM. I cannot wait to decorate at POP!!!

lori1043, I have finalized our dates finally. We are going Jan.31-Feb 6th at the WL. :cool1: Now to make dining plans. I hope we can still get what we want. By the way, we are only about 20 mins. east of you, Hammond. We are so pumped to go during Mardi gras break. I had to move our dates up a couple days because of dd's dance competition practices.

Welcome nieghbor!!! I'll get names posted on page 1 after a few more sign up. I like to get a few weeks done all at once!

Lori

TEminnie, what are your tentative dates and where are you staying?
Very tentative (as I gotta tell DH!)--but 2/2-2/8 at the CBR is booked! I'll start a PTR and schedule some meets when I get everything "approved" ;)

We are coming 2/1 - 2/8.

Currently we are in ASM Family Suite on 2/1 - 2/3 and then over to AKV with a 2 BR Savannah View from 2/3 - 2/8.

I am still hoping to pick up a AAA or AP discount for the Suite.

I have made reservations for February 6th through 12th. I'll be leaving New Orleans as soon as Rex rolls past me! I sure am hoping for a code, though!

Do they do discounts on the suites?? It WOULD be nice to have 2 bathrooms....

I thought $119 was pretty good at CBR. What rates are y'all getting at POP?? (then MAYBE I could have 2 rooms which means 2 bathrooms--that might be easier to sell to DH since there are 4 of us--with 3 girls!)

I was quoted $82 (including tax) a night preferred with AAA yesterday. But I am sticking to the package for now and hoping for a good deal

Hi all! We are taking our first trip to WDW in February, too. We'll be at CSR Feb. 8-13. Then we are getting up very early and heading to Cocoa Beach area to see the space shuttle launch on the 14th (fingers crossed) and have some beach time.

I have to give my dh equal time for all things SPACE related because he doesn't get the magic and is going to WDW under protest. But a few days at WDW are better than no days and if I can plan right (and make look like there is no plan), the crowds won't get to him and ruin it for him. The trick is to be relaxed and laid back, such as watching Wishes and IllumiNations from a beach or restaurant instead of in the crowd at closing time. Yesterday he suggested he send me ahead by three days so I can get it all out of my system and shop without him. Surprised him when I said "Sounds good to me!" And I hate to disappoint him, but I'll never get it out of my system. :wizard:

I'll be looking out for fellow dis'ers while we're there, and for codes and good deals until then! Off to HD to get my very first LGMHs.

Happy to say we will be going for DS 13th birthday, planning on leaving 2/13 and staying till 2/18, short weekend but I don't want to take the kids out of school. This doesn't seem to be a value time any more as it was for us in the past. At least we go the value rate going in and staying with that rate. Now it goes up by the weekend. I have narrowed down my choices to CBR or AKL to really indulge. My quoted AAA prices are CBR water view for 2A + 2K is 1,064.83, AKL savanah view, 2,028.93 or concierge for 2,314.98, for the difference of 286.05 I would definately stay in concierge. I just have to determine if I want to spend the xtra 1,250.15 for the 5 nights. My DH and I have already stayed at the Carribean and really loved it. I know the food is reasonable also. Kids would love the bike and water activities. But, I would love to see the animals every morning. I am just hoping for a good code with my Disney Visa. We'll see anyone else going this time and how have you heard about the crowds, is it a busier time than it used to be?:woohoo:
