February 19, 2011 Magic Western - Presidents of the Caribbean!

I just found out (from another thread) that there is supposed to be a shuttle launch the day we get back to port. The launch is scheduled for 4:04 pm on the 26th.
Two things popped to my mind right away:

1. Will there be issues w/traffic trying to get back to MCO to catch our flight? I know we will be going the opposite direction as everyone else, but maybe there's something I don't know.
2. Should I book a later flight home that day to stick around & see the launch? Then we would be fighting traffic back trying to catch an evening flight. AND what do we do w/our luggage? If we stay over night in the area, I'm sure the hotels will be booked. Then what if they cancel the launch & I made us stay an extra day for nothing?

This may affect your flight availability going home too on Sunday. Just thought I would make everyone aware.

We don't fly home until Sunday afternoon. I am still looking into Saturday night accomodations. New discount codes came out for the world this week but only until 2/16/10. I will check back in a week or two to see if they extended them to our stay. Since it is only one night we would like to try a WDW resort we have not stayed at before. I guess I will have to wait for the rates to decide.

Is it time to cruise yet?:hourglass

We fly home on Sunday morning so we are also looking for a place to Saturday night. We plan to go to one of the WDW parks during the day. Where did you find the discount codes? We were thinking of staying at a WDW resort if the price is reasonable. Thanks!!! :flower3:

without points the hyatt regency at MCO (which, i assume, is the same as hyatt mco) is $231.....that's a lot of cabbage but there is something to be said for not driving after late flight

any other suggestions for hotel near MCO? Maybe it would be a good idea to stay first/ drive later

Well, now DH wants to stay an extra day after cruise to see the shuttle launch, but all the nearby resorts are booked already. I have to figure out what we are going to do b4 we buy airfare. He thinks this a once in a lifetime opportunity to show our boys, but where are we going to stay? We will have our luggage w/us.
One option is to rent a car & keep our luggage in the trunk. Then after the launch, head to a WDW resort. The problem is that we have 2 little ones that need car seats & I'm not sure I trust the ones from the rental company. I don't want to lug ours w/us thru airports & on the cruise either.

Right now we are debating- splurging on a resort to just hang out at for the day, or maybe staying at POP and getting park tickets and going to a park...

but what time is it realistic you could arrive at a park the day you return to port?

we have a rental car booked, but it does not open until 9am. I will admit I like to be at rope drop and am an early riser, but how would be get there for a park opening?

Thoughts? What are others doing who are going to the parks?

I got the code in an email from mousesavers (AK9 or MM2). It offers 30% off up until 2/16. The CM I spoke with said try back in a few weeks and maybe it will be extended. So I hope to decide the dilemma above before then.

Did you know about the 135.00 voucher you can buy to use to stay at the Hyatt at MCO? That would be more than a 50% discount :)

on our last cruise this past december we also rented a car and went to Animal Kingdom and got there around 10:30ish...however, we took our time getting off the ship and had to wait 20 minutes for the shuttle and another 20-30 minutes to get the rental car and be on our way. the park didn't open until 10am so we were ok with getting there within one hour of openning...

this next time we have the reservation made for 8am and hope to be at the park by 9:30 (??? i don't know how reasonable that expectation is???)

thanks for the information about the code! hopefully they'll extend the dates soon!

We were lucky enough to be at WDW a few years ago and to be standing on the beach at CBR at dusk when a shuttle launched. We were in shock! I guess it had been pushed back several weeks by weather and we had been at Disney for almost a week so we were out of touch with news. It truly was an awe-inspiring experience. Everyone at the beach and playground went silent (even the kids!) and watched the sky. Our son was 5 at the time so the memory is a bit faded but DH and I still talk about it. It was one of those events that gives you goosebumps. And, finally, moral of the story ;) If you can make it work, it could be a fantastic once in a lifetime opportunity!

For 135.00 you can buy a Choice Level Hyatt Certificate. This entitles you to one night at a Choice level hotel with Hyatt. When you check in, present the voucher. The voucher also covers tax on the room.

Check it out at https://www.certificates.hyatt.com/products/CertsStay.aspx

But before you buy, call and make sure they are still accepting vouchers. I heard they only take so many vouchers per a given night. Also, I read that you can reserve a room on the voucher, then go online and buy one.

I could not find it, but there is a lengthy thread somewhere in the crusie section all about the Hyatt voucher. People have success with them and do not run into any trouble.

I have never used one myself, but plan to the night before the cruise.

I hope I explained it well.

Does anyone else have any thoughts or feedback?

thanks vavalyn!

i will explore just what you said.......

that is why these boards are so cool!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

which car rental seems to be the best choice/cheapest.......

I just looked through mousesavers and checked 5 diff companies....basically the same except for hertz and avis (more $$$$)

we will have 4 adults and 2 kids so mini-van looks like the choice for us....rates start at $63 bt, with all the taxes, etc., end up around $90......

maybe a limo would be better?

any input?????

THANX!

Well, we did not get what I had planned on. We have rewards to use and there are no rewards flights available down or back on Fri/ Sat or Sat/Sun. So we were forced :woohoo: to fly down on Thurs. That means I had to book 2 nights at Boardwalk before the cruise.:woohoo: Now I just need to figure out how we are getting home.:goodvibes

So sorry to hear that! :rotfl: We were forced to fly out early too so we had cheaper fares, so we are "forced" to stay at Bay Lake Tower for a few days before the cruise... how will we ever manage?!?:rotfl2:

Hi everyone! Just got back from the World yesterday. We had a wonderful 9 days to enjoy (2 at AKL and 7 off-site). It was our first time being there in the summer and boy was it hot!! I am grateful for the steamy summer we have had here in NY, because it made the weather in FL seem not that much worse.
Now it is back to reality and all that comes with it...back to school, soccer games etc. I'm not ready for it yet, but I do have the cruise to look forward to!
Sorry to hear that Southwest was not working out for so many of you. We had the same experience with JetBlue. We did end up finding reasonable fares on American. I just kept checking Bing.com everyday until I found something I was comfortable with. Good luck to everyone!
Off to catch up on the rest of the posts:goodvibes

Hey...........FYI

DOnt be too disapointed if the launch does not happen...
We hope it does since we will be up that way........But they are cancelled and changed way more often than they take off.

BUT you never know what pixi dust could come our way.

I know. DH wants to stay to see it, so I asked him what happens if I book the airfare & then its cancelled. He said so we spend a day in the area, most likely tour Kennedy Space Center. So we will stay Sat night, but nothing is available. I am trying to figure out where to stay that's not too far from the launch.

someone how I got myself signed up for another trip board..how to I make it so I stop getting emails from when people post about the other cruise?
