FEBRUARY 14, 2009 (very early roll-call!)

Hi all just an update, my ds17 will not be going on the cruise, he is going with his dad to wdw instead. it will be dd8 myself in one cabin, my friend and her 3 kids ds 7 dd9 dd12 in another and two more adult females in another cabin. this turned into a girls only cruise with the exception of my friends son who is 7. hopefully i will get a fish extender for outside the cabin or perhaps make one. we just returned from wdw a quick 4 night Christmas visit (never have been there at that time) and it was awesome. plan on doing it again next year. not long before it is time to sail!!

OK. I put you down for three cabins. :thumbsup2

Does anyone have any cute door magnets/graphics for the Valentines cruise?

Has anybody heard anything about the Pirate night being changed from the night of St. Marteen. I saw something about it on another thread but I am not sure if it was the 7 night cruise! :confused3

HOW IT WORKS:[/COLOR]
-Participants will get small gift for each cabin signed up (not including your own cabin). So as of now, each participant would bring 16 gifts. If you still want to sign up, you can!
-As we get closer to the departure date, PM grizbuzz your cabin room.
-grizbuzz will write up a gift exchange list to distribute about a week prior to departure or at our DISMeet (are we having one?) with a list of cabins to deliver gifts to, as well as your assigned day to deliver the gifts. So that way, each day a gift or two will be waiting at your door.
-Fish extenders not required, though if you want to make/bring one, by all means do!

Just a couple of questions?? Is the gift exchange per cabin or per family?
For those families that have 2 cabins (with children in the second one) are they giving gifts from each cabin?

He won't actually turn 4 until Feb 24, but it would be great if we could do something on the ship, as I'm not sure I'm going to have much energy to pull together much of anything on Feb 24.

I have not planned to do anything, but it might be fun. You're right about getting the energy to do anything about it. We are celebrating another birthday on board...my husband's cousin's wife's birthday is Feb 14th. (wow that is a mouthful!)

Great question!

Here's what I was thinking...

FOR GIVING: Gifts come from each DIS family. So if a family has 2 or 3 cabins, still just one gift per family. If DIS family has a second or third cabin with friend/family member who also wants to give gifts, that's great, but it is NOT required.

FOR GETTING: Gifts go to each cabin. So if a family has 2 or 3 cabins, they get 2 or 3 gifts.

Questions...

What if I only have only one cabin? Do I need to get two or three gifts for people who have more than one cabin? This means I'm giving more than I'm getting.

I don't know anyway around this. I only have one cabin and I'm totally OK with getting more gifts than I'm getting. It gets really tricky to require multiple gifts from families with more than one cabin. Keep in mind, gifts should be small and inexpensive (it's the thought and creativity that counts!), so hopefully this won't be an undue burden on anyone.

If people have ideas on other ways to do this, let me know. But this is my take on the simplest way to do it.

The last time we cruised Disney we brought our own drinks on board ie: beer ect. Does anyone know if they are still allowing this? We are sailing the Feb 14th cruise.
Thanks

Just joing this group late so if I am asking repetitive questions sorry:confused3 Does anyone have any advise on some of the excursions on the Island of St john or St martin?

I have a suggestion (if you don't mind).
When it comes time to PM grizbuzz with your cabin numbers, you should indicate which of your cabins are giving gifts. (All of the cabins are getting!). We don't want to be dissapointed when a cabin is listed to give a gift on a certain day and they are not. (because they are part of a family that already gave a gift).

PS...I have my gifts!!!

I wasn't planning on handing out a master list of who's giving which day. I was planning to hand out a card at the DISMEET to each family/group, with the list of cabins to deliver gifts to and the date to give your gifts. And if you can't come to the DISMEET, I'll slide the card with your assigned date and list of cabin numbers under your door. So you can give your gift anonymously or you can indicate who it's from -- your preference. You can let me know when you PM me your cabin numbers if there is a date you do or do NOT want to hand out gifts. I'll try to accommodate, but will also try to balance out so we have a least one gift that we're getting each day. This leaves an element of surprise so you're not sure exactly what's coming when or from whom...

STILL, your advice is GREAT. If each group/family could PM me indicating how many cabins will be GIVING gifts (eg, my 3 cabin numbers are: x,y,z and cabin x,y will be giving gifts) I can assign dates evenly so we get a little something everday.

How does that sound? Too confusing. Hopefully, it will be simple - just follow instructions on card I give you at DISmeet ;)

The 14th of February will be our first cruise and I know nothing about it so I need all the help I can get. We have been to Walt Disney World 43 times. My Hubby and I loves Disney. We are avid pin collectors. Looking forward to the trip. Need all the advice we can get. Thanks

I will follow :goodvibes See, that's why I didn't volunteer to organize it-- clueless!! (and i would probably make it too complicated..for me and everybody else!) Sounds great to me. My concern was just having a day when there could possibly be no gifts:sad1:

No need to worry! As long as everyone gives me accurate info, I will make sure to assign groups/families to cover each day.

Looks like we have a couple new cruisers. Welcome Daleh and lbrening! :yay: Are you interested in joining the gift exchange?

BTW...I peaked on eBay today and couldn't help myself. I bought a fish extender. Note that these are NOT required. But it was just SO cute.

Also, I bought a tux for DS on eBay for formal.

Must stop shopping now!

For those of you that asked earlier....here are 2 Valentine magnets that I found somewhere on the "www" (sorry I cannot give credit to whom it belongs)

Thanks for the welcome. Gift exchange sounds like fun, but I need some more info. Such as what kind of gifts. Do we get for mainly the children or everyone? what are fish extenders? What can you tell me about the Meets? Like I said I don't know what I am doing.

Welcome Daleh!:cheer2:
You can find more info on gift exchanges on other threads...along with pictures of fish extenders and gifts. We are planning on giving one small gift per cabin. Candy, stickers, glow sticks, magnets, post cards from your home town are just a few simple examples. We want to keep it simple. Some people have gotten pretty fancy and creative. (mini scrap books, personalized magnets)
Look in the Disney cruise line forum for threads regarding FE's or gift exchanges.

Thanks for the info sounds like fun. Now is need to figure out what we will bring. also i like the idea of meet and great with other disboard members. Great way to make friends with our joy of Disney. My Mother and sisters think Ken and I are nuts for going to WDW 43 times and now celebrating our 40th on a Disney cruise and another week at WDW

I agree. This is my first Disney cruise. These boards are full of so much great and helpful information. I try to be helpful when I can, but you may want to refer to some of the DIS Veterans for more info.

If those new to the boards want to sign up, let me know!
And for the DISMEET:
-Looks like we're leaning toward a 1pm meet on Day 2, Feb 15. Still need a definite location. Keep ideas coming!

Some of us had discussed adding a thread for the kids in our family groups to post before the cruise and kind of get to know some other kids who will be on the cruise with them.

So, I started a thread for the kids of the Feb. 14, 2009 cruise. I also asked in the thread starter to check with parents before they post (although they probably aren't even going to know about DIS unless WE tell them about it, so I guess we'd know anyway?). It can be found here:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=29514281#post29514281

Irishcowboy is going to add it to the main list of cruise meets. I asked him to try and get it immediately under the main thread for the Feb. 14 cruise.

39 days (?) and counting! :cool1:
