Feb No Buy! Short Month! We can do this!

14- $3.81 (Joe Caputo-Groceries), $16.58 (KFC-Eating Out and Hubby's Valentine's Day present...he loves Hot wings and last week he wanted them, but he couldn't justify getting them when we have so much food in the house. He works 3rd shift so I lined them up on a pan to make them spell out I "heart" U. I can't wait til he sees it. He loves his hotwings and hasn't had them for a long time)

This is my idea of an excellent Valentine--SO personal, something he will actually enjoy.

Yesterday I made a profit of $1.21 shopping at Target ($10 gift card for a $6 prescription) and spent .53 for oatmeal at Walgreens.

Had my annual free blood work done at school which required fasting. Carried a banana and granola bar (part of the Target shop) to eat immediately afterward.

So, I shopped. . . . sortof. Not positive if that is a no buy day:confused3

It was a no impulse shop day.

Because there is a holiday ( Valentines Day :lovestruc ) and a 3 day weekend (President's day weekend) I'm going to make a goal of EIGHT no $pend days in February.

Feb 1 - $$ money spent $$ (I'm going to miss my work friend after they move away. So, I have been doing lunch out a little more often. Pretty soon that opportunity will be gone. :( )
Feb 2 - :yay: no $pend day # 1 :dance3:
Feb 3 - didn't spend today - :yay: no $pend day # 2 :dance3:
Feb 4 - Spent $ today on laundry soap & a few other tidbits (should have planned a little better!)

WEEKEND!
02-05 Spent money on gas today
02-06 Spent money on food today

Feb 7 -and I've already spent money today too. I was at the store on Friday, but got a call & had to leave right away. So, didn't get to pick up some of the other things on my list. I will try to do my Valentines Day shopping today too, so maybe tomorrow can be a no spend!
Feb 8 - ugh. spent $
Feb 9 - spent more money - not budged, but needed to be done. To recoup some of my spending, I put some stuff up for sale. Lets see how that goes! (wheres the "wishful thinking" or "fingers crossed for luck" smiley faces!!??!!):lmao:
Feb 10 - ?? no clue. I really need to post daily.
Feb 11 - had a great friday! spent money, but spent it well. :cutie:

WEEKEND!
02-12 My weekend was a blur - I know I spent money though. :sad2: Not a lot, but still spent.
02-13

Feb 14 - :lovestruc Happy Valentines Day! :lovestruc Mailed some (late) stuff for valentines, not a no spend day.
Feb 15 - Oil & new battery for the car. realised I need a bigger "auto expense" catagory for my budget. Also went to Target, can't get out of there without spending money! (under $40.00 though, I'm pretty pleased - Target can usually get pricey!)
Feb 16 - already caved & got breakfast - I was swamped over the weekend & never went grocery shopping. So there really is nothing to eat at home! Auctions are ending soon, hopefully I have earned some extra money !
Feb 17 -
Feb 18 -

Still sick, although I'm getting better. I've never missed three days of school in a row before! I wonder if my class remembers who I am...! I'm hoping to be back to them tomorrow.

You know you've been sick when it takes you 3 days to notice a cantaloupe sitting on the counter! DH bought it on Sunday, and I just realized it today. Good thing I haven't been trying to teach!

I need to go back and get actual numbers as well as figure out the coupon savings for the past week or so!

Wlake, I don't count medical either, never have. It is a bill as necessary as power or the morgage. I hope you are feeling better soon.

Thanks! I was really wondering last night, when I had a third straight day with a fever over 100.

I hope you are feeling better! What book did you get? Was it any good?

I hope you and your DS feel better soon!

Thanks! He went back to school yesterday, right as rain. It's nice when the little ones bounce back so quickly. (Although I'm jealous! :)) I got A Scattered Life. I wanted something mindless and fluffy, so I was a bit surprised by the end. It was ok -- it didn't need a lot of concentration, which was just what I needed!

Hi everyone, we're back & have jumped back into a crazy week, back to reality, I guess;). Our trip was good, but we had a few setbacks, I haven't been sick in over a year, but I got strep throat in Orlando, I sat in a clinic for 2 hours to get some antibiotics, and did'nt feel well for about 4 days of our trip. Also, the weather was cold for most of the week. We had 1 beautiful, sunny, 70 degree day, but the rest were cold & rainy:sad1:, that was a major bummer, coming from the cold midwest. The kids had a great time, and we did have some magical moments, but it makes me feel sick to my stomach when I think of the cost of vacation, and the fact that we won't be able to go again for several years (dh is not as Disney crazy as I am, and it won't be in the budget for awhile). I would give anything to be able to do the week over with nice weather, and especially not feeling sick. I know we were very blessed to be able to go at all, but it was so dissapointing to have bad luck when it costs so much to go. So, whine over:), life goes on, I did get some great pictures (although most have cloudy skies, and ponchos:rotfl:!). Jumping back in to track the budget again! Maybe if I am very diligent a trip re-do will be in the future:)!

Hi everyone! I'm in for Feb. It will be a really short month for us, as I won't record next week while we're in Orlando. We are renting a house, so we don't have the dp, and even though we'll make some meals at the house, I'm sure we'll eat at least 1 meal out each day. There are only 3 fast food places & 2 restaurants in our small town, so I'm really looking forward to variety!

The rest of the month will be a little leaner, because of vacation spending, & that dh will be taking a week off of work (we're self-employed), so I really need to stay within our cash-budget. So, the goals are 10 no-buy days, and to stay on budget. Good luck everyone!

Feb 1 - Subway tonight, we have dance, wrestling, & haircuts this afternoon & evening, and no place to picnic w/ negative 10 degree weather.

Feb 2 - $0

Feb 3 - a quick trip to Walmart for snacks for the trip, camera batteries, & a leapster game for dd5.

Feb 4 - traveling
Feb 5 - traveling- and Disney for the Electric parade
Feb 6 - Harry Potter @ Universal
Feb 7 - Disney
Feb 8 - Disney
Feb 9 - Disney
Feb 10 - Disney
Feb 11 - Disney

I love this quote! "Time to start editing your memories..." I am going to have to remember this the next time something feels like a letdown.

lattemom, I feel your pain. Years ago we went at Christmas and it rained and was cold everyday except for one. I remember my oldest dd and I standing in the rain trying to get in to see the Candlelight processional and literally crying because we were so frustrated. I hope your next trip comes soon, and you get better weather, and feel better!

Wlake, keep on getting better!!

I love this quote! "Time to start editing your memories..." I am going to have to remember this the next time something feels like a letdown.

Thanks! A friend of mine (whose child is grown) told me that once. See, I have this beautiful photo of my boys hunting for a Christmas tree. There's a light dusting of snow, and the boys are walking away from the camera (I don't have a copy of it on my computer anymore). Anyway, it's one of those shots you envy other people having. I was showing it to my friend and telling him how it was ruined by the soundtrack of the day: "I get to be first." "No I do." "Stop touching me." and so on. He was the one who told me the sooner I started editing my memories of those events, the more I'd enjoy them!

Feel better, everyone! lattemom, I've had trips like that. The worst was when everyone got the stomach bug except for me and my then baby son. I couldn't wait to get home.

2/2 - $61.98 on groceries - stocked up on meat and cereal, $516.84 left for the month.

Expensive day!

2/12 - Circus Science Day at the Museum (we’re members so at least admission was free): $7 parking, $16 lunch, $10 souvenirs. We had a BLAST though! Groceries $30.75/$162.50 left for month!

Although it's a no-buy day, it's also a no-earn day. I was supposed to start some new tutoring gigs today but that's on hold now because of some snafu with the classroom I was supposed to use. ARGH! I had already arranged for DD to go to her old daycare - canceled that for today and tomorrow, now I'll start Wednesday - and DS is going to Extended Care, which I'll leave as is. He was looking forward to it and it happens to be over 60 degrees out! Going to the park with DD soon, in fact! (Update: she fell asleep on the way, and there was still snow on the ground anyhow, so we came right home.)

2/22 – will be going to Liberty Science Center with friends so this will NOT be a no-buy day!

2/23 - planning for no-buy day #6

2/24 - hoping for no-buy day #7

2/25 - ?

2/26 - DS bowling league

2/27 - ?

2/28 - ?

That is just wrong! At my (paycheck) bank, it goes in at midnight, and I have access to it right away. At my secondary bank, DH's check goes in, and, if it is "pending", we still have access-maybe due to overdraft protection??? I just know it says something like balance (say $900), usable balance ($1900)....so we do have the access.

On my way to school, and will update my non $0 days  later today.

It is frustrating. I have heard that since it says it's in the available balance, I can use it. However, I have also heard that someone's relative used money in the "available balance" that was actually "pending" and they got slammed with overdraft fees. So, I wait.

At least this morning it was no longer pending. It is irritating that my friend, who uses a different bank, had the money at midnight on the 15th, and I still had it only pending when I went to bed 22 hours later. It had cleared by this morning, and I can't really complain since I'm GETTING paid. I just don't know why my bank has a problem. :confused3 Maybe it's normal.

I didn't realize your surgery was yesterday. I hope it went well!

Feel better, everyone! lattemom, I've had trips like that. The worst was when everyone got the stomach bug except for me and my then baby son. I couldn't wait to get home.

Another no-buy. I actually found $1--you know me and finding money. I found $4.50 one day last month, so in comparison, this month is slow. And, yesterday I hit the after V-Day sales at Target. love those after holiday sales!

Ugh. The stomach bug. And on vacation! :headache:

Nice job finding money!

I'm in again this month!

Welcome new faces, hope you love the thread!

I've shooting for a goal of 12 no-buys for the shorter month. This month both DH and I have birthdays, plus v-day so that ads some extra expenses. Thankfully, we aren't having major birthdays this year so no big parties and we never do anything big for v-day. We are planning on buying a new house in March or April, so we need to do some saving to prep for the extra moving expenses.

Feb 1 I like to start the month with a no buy, but no such luck today. $70 had to register the boys for soccer and swimming, but I found out I had a big credit on my account (yay for found money!) so that took care of half the bill, $60 groceries.

Feb 2 It was errand day today, so $$$! $170 groceries, $40 gas, $25 filed my taxes. Hopefully this will take care of any spending through early next week.

Feb 3 We got caught out unexpectedly at lunch time, so we had to hit Subway. I could have waited, but DH gets very cranky if he isn't fed on schedule :rotfl:! $15 Subway.

Feb 4 $6 dinner with my parents, $23 gas

Feb 5 :cheer2: woo hoo! Finally a no buy day!

Feb 6 :cheer2:

Feb 7 $21 lunch, $40 dinner, $89 paperwork that need to be ordered. I feel terrible that we had lunch AND dinner out today. But, we're in the middle of crazy loan/house stuff and after dealing with that and a preschool board meeting today plus babysitting a friend's little boy, I did not have cooking dinner in me!

Feb 8 :cheer2: Calling it early because the roads are awful and we're staying inside!

Feb 9 It's been a pricey couple of days! $64 moving supplies, $10 Inta Juice

Feb 10 $30 Home Depot-more boxes, $40 gas, $18 medical, $22 driver's license, $33 date night with DH

Feb 11 $14 groceries, $12 car wash

Feb 12 :cheer2:

Feb 13 :cheer2:

Feb 14 $63 groceries, $4 lunch

Feb 15 $22 a set of vintage photos I really liked, $26 took the boys ice skating...it was a horrible experience (we skate a lot, this was just one bad time) hate that, especially when it wasn't cheap, $40 Home Depot-some fixer upper stuff for the house, $100 cleaning lady, $14 groceries

Feb 16 :cheer2:

6/12 no buy days
