Feb Member Cruise Costs / Thoughts

disneydawn- that is EXACTLY my point. They offered a special before and people booked like crazy! Now, they offer a special and we are supposed to turn a blind eye to the fact that they took away the onboard credit? JMHO.
I just feel like they think we are stupid or something.

I agree with the statement that statement about us being a "captive audience". Now I just feel strangely about this offer.

They looked really high to me....I'm planning on cruising in March so I can't make it a month earlier......but one would think that as a DVC only cruise...there would have been a lot of extra perks.....doesn't look like there are any.....

Sorry if I missed it in any of the earlier posts, but has anyone been given the price per adult for a category 5 room. I too am disappointed w/the higher point cost, as that makes it not an option for us to use points. Also we are going in Dec/Jan of this year and will only have been back a month before this cruise. My husband only gets 1 week vacation per year, and as he will have just returned from a vacation one month prior, I'm not too sure how thrilled they will be with him taking more time off so soon. As it stands now, it looks like we will not be going, although I really was looking forward to it. I'll have to wait and see about cash prices first I guess :(.

FWIW: I just received this email of Disney Cruise specials from Mytravelco.com:
http://www.mytravelco.com/cruises/hotdeals/dealpage.asp?id=8100#dates
Looks like end of Jan cruise for 4 days is $1518 for 2 for category 7 (outside w/veranda) among other deals... How special can this DVC cruise be to justify more than $500 over other deals out there? Maybe this is a teaser email- I didn't login and go all the eay through with it but they appear to be legitimate, I'm on their mailing lsit and receive specials all the time.

Does anyone from the past DVC member cruise think that this cruise is worth the cost?

I would really like to go but covincing my husband may be difficult.

Jenny......I came to the DVC Board tonight to encourage others to go on this cruise and I was flabbergasted at all the negative reactions and posts about it. I have already posted on several threads trying to give DVCers wanting to go a postive message.....which is DEFINITELY GO!!! dh and I went on the Members Only Cruise in April and it was one of our best vacations. It is so good to be with other DVCers because it seems everyone has so much in common. The ship I was on in April was one big happy family!! Everyone hated to see it end.
Members requested that we have another members cruise and I'm so glad that DVC responded to those requests. I know the points are higher but I still think it is worth it!! Nothing could be more special than having a ship full of DVCers and two days at Castaway Cay. I say "shame on all of you" spewing negative venom ;)

We would probably bite the bullet and try the DVC cruise, but we will be at OKW Feb 14-20, and DW is a teacher. And I don't think her Principal at her high school woud be to thrilled:( if she missed 4 more days, after taking 3 personal days during Presidents week.

Harriet,

Thanks for the positive outlook! We are 90% sure we will be booking the member cruise. I'm really looking forward to spending time with other members. Plus 2 days at Castaway will be great! My 4yr old DD still talks about how much she loves the Disney Cruise and the 'beach'. My baby will be having her 1st birthday during the cruise. I can't think of a better way to celebrate it.

I think the experience will be worth every penny!

Jenny

I'm speculating that the reason DVC is not giving onboard credits or reduced points is that they feel they do not have to give any added incentives for members to book this cruise. Sorta like their decision not to give away free park passes to get people to purchase a DVC membership. They got enough positive feedback from the first cruise to know that certain members just wanted a Members Only type cruise with more time at Castaway Cay. Obviously, this sort of "special" doesn't appeal to everyone but DVC is betting it will appeal to enough of us to fill a ship. For those who consider this offer a "rip-off", please remember DVC still has those "fall specials" with reduced points for members. The thing I love about DVC is that they offer a variety of options.....both in type of resorts and the special offers they promote.

Unfortunately, it's members who "follow the DVC logo off the cliff" (as posted earlier) that make it a bit harder for the those of us who want more bang for our buck - or at least to be treated as more than second-class citizens. The point increase from 2002 to 2003 was huge - obviously because DVC/DCL knew about this "captive audience". I have sent a letter to MS letting them know that not only am I unhappy about the point increase for this particular members-only cruise, I am unhappy about the huge increase in points from 2002. The only positive thing is if you want to book the cruise, going through DVC on cash is slightly cheaper than booking through DCL (approx. <$100> per person - we just booked for next July). Anyway, to each his own, but I agree with several others who posted to let their feelings known (to quote Harriet "spewing negative venom") - it's the only way to make change. Already MS announced they have reversed their decision on the $75 fee - this could be just the first step ....... :smooth:
