FEB 3, 2008 ABROAD DISNEY WONDER--Who else??

This is the view from Port Canaveral.

One of the links I provided earlier said that it wasn't a great place to view shuttle launches because you can't see the launch pad and will hear a diminished rumble because you're 13 miles away. "the sound will have dissipated significantly by the time it reaches you well over a minute into flight. There is no reason to go here if you don't have to, when Titusville is just a few minutes drive away."

Titusville is touted to be the best viewing spot (where the Astronaut Hall of Fame is located). The NASA causeway tickets are already sold out.

Okay...help me out. Here is my to buy/pack list. Anything missing
sunscreen, after sunlotion, overdoor shoe caddie, magnetic tape, powerstrip, night light, LCD clock, first aid kit, underwater camera, flashlight, corkscrew, panchos, clothespin, notepad and pen......

What else????

Autograph book for Carsyn? there will be LOTS of characters on the ship! Shawn included;)

I just saw this on another thread. We love Rachel. She has been on the Magic for every one of our cruises. We'll have to give her a warm Welcome!

Juli

Jetty Park at Port Canaveral is a viewing area for the launch. It's just east of the DCL Terminal (West Turning Basin). It's $5 for parking and technically we get in about the right time to settle for viewing. There's a concession stand and washrooms.:thumbsup2 But again, can my kids handle waiting around for four or more hours??? Good thing the beach is nearby.

Uber cool! :cool1: Thanks a lot, espcialy for the map. I think we have a plan. :thumbsup2

Anyone else up for this?

EDIT: Thanks for the update the closer site. I would love to be able to feel the launch, but the logistics of it would be difficult at best. I think the park at the port will have to do.

Hi everyone,
Its 2:15 AM and everyone here is sleeping, so I'm getting some good stuff done. Will try to join the chat. Hope to be home by then after running around all day. So much to do, so little time. And, just as I predicated, Glenn is looking to leave earlier on Sat. (2nd) then planned. Heard him calling about PPP tix. Held off as he could not book a room on site. Guess I'll know more tomorrow. Man, I love that guy
Also, very bummed about launch tickets from the causeway being sold out. It was incredible from that vantage point and I almost don't care to see it if I have to go anywhere else. How spoiled rotten do I sound? Tickets available to watch from Kennedy Space Center (28 kids,38 adults) but were told the first two seconds or so are not seen since you can't actually see the launch pad from there. Still trying to make a decision on that one too! :confused3
Well, its back to the list of lists for me! GoodNight, JohnBoy!

I would be willing to go in on a PhotoPass CD for $25. I also would use the 40% off. I am one of those, Gotta Have It NOW girls.

Tara

:confused3

Okay, I guess I'm dense, but how do we share a PhotoPass, and how would sharing the coupon work. If I understand this better, I might be interested too.

That is too funny....you are so dead when he sees you!popcorn::

I have not decided about the autograph thing. I am going to buy one of those engagement photo frame mats that you get guests to sign and put that in a bag with some markers for guest services in place of a pillowcase. We already have 3 books FULL of autographs....I just can't decide.

I'll do what I can....but she and I will be newbies together! LOL

I sooooo wish we could stay. Our flight leaves like 11ish. Shoot!:sad2: :guilty: :headache:

Oh boy!!! Let us know when you find out! There are 2 DIS meets for P&PP night. One over on the main board for 6:30ish by Jungle Cruise. Just to take a picture and chat for a second. Then we are meeting in the rose garden(don't have to stay there....but they do have benches and TINK!) for the 9:30 fireworks and then going to catch the 10:30 parade!!!!

This is getting fun!~ Anyone else thinking of joining our P&PP festivities????

:confused3

Okay, I guess I'm dense, but how do we share a PhotoPass, and how would sharing the coupon work. If I understand this better, I might be interested too.

A photopass card will be given to you when you take your first picture at WDW. You put ALL of your pictures on that one scan card from your entire trip. You can have as many cards as you want...just don't loose them! When you get home or there at MK you type in all the numbers on the cards and it puts your pictures where you can view them. There you can add siggys, boarders, etc... They will give you an disk if you pay $120ish so you can go home and edit and print as many as you want!!!

THis is a great deal for 3 or 4 days in the parks. But we are just going for P*PP. There will be just a few pics from each of us on one $120ish disk. So if we COMBINE our photopass numbers you can pay less. But you can't take secret pictures...cause everyone will know your business! All the pics from all the familes can be edited and printed from that disk. The owner of the disk must make a copy for the rest.

If we get the disk for P*PP we will purchase it there if they still let you and we can burn new copies on my laptop when we get on the ship. I have a CD/DVD burner on it.

Somebody did say that there is a 40% off coupon so you will be tempted to buy more than one actual pic...but does not apply to CD's. Darn.

Tara

Note that when you pre-purchase the PhotoCD, you will receive multiple emails as part of the fulfillment process. One will contain your coupon code, this is the important one; another will tell you that your order has shipped - this refers to the coupon code which had been shipped to you via email. You should receive the code within minutes of your purchase. If not, check your spam filter or contact Disney's PhotoPass as soon as possible to get the situation resolved.

If you forget to pre-order online before your vacation, you can pre-order the PhotoCD in the parks. The price will be the full cost of $124.95, but you will receive 3 5x7 PhotoPrints to offset the difference.

Another option is to organize or participate in a Disney's PhotoPass share. If you're going with a group of people, such as extended family, or even other groups of guests found through a website who will be at the parks around the same time, you can reduce the cost of the PhotoCD for everyone by creating one account for everyone and splitting the cost of Disney's PhotoPass. The person in charge of the share will then be responsible for making sure everyone edits and enhances their photos in a timely fashion and then will be in charge of ordering, receiving, duplicating and distributing the CDs to each participant. If you choose to do this with virtual strangers, however, please exercise caution as you will have no recourse if something goes wrong (unless of course you are the organizer).

This is what I was thinking....when you purchase the CD at the park you can't put any stuff on it. They just give you your pictures and free reign to do so as you will with them. We could take that disk, burn it to my laptop, then I could make copies for everyone. We could go online at our leisure and UPLOAD them back to disney to add all the extra siggy stuff and boarders. That way we would have a copy of the CD to put on our computere to send to Wallgreens, Walmart, etc.... Plus we could UPLOAD them back and either print from there or I can show you how to EXPORT them for printing.

Sounds cool...we could meet up at the square before we leave and pay and go. Meet up on the ship to make the copies and wallah!:yay:

Hey,

I am thinking about doing the photopass with someone at work (not cruise, just DW). I am planning on preordering, but will order after we get home. If you are interested I will bring envelopes for you to address so that I can mail a copy ASAP after receiving the disk. I will let you know the email and password to use to login so that we can all edit our own pics. I can also download them to snapfish or Kodak gallery so you can have access to them sooner. I would probably want to order by the Sun. after the cruise.

Rose

BTW Tara- ask Carsyn about the autograph book. I thought we wouldn't need one this year, but both my girls both have said that they want to bring them (DS has never really been interested in them). Since I know we are going to stand in line to get pics anyway it really doesn't matter. I think that this time I am just getting them each a cheap book/journal and stickers to decorate it.

A few more questions:

1) Did we ever figure out what the 40% coupon is for?

2) You both talked about editing the photos with special effects. Are you supposed to do that at the park before they burn the CD? You also both made it sound like you can do the editing from home after the fact by uploading your pics back to Disney. Do I have this right?

3) Rose, when are you going to be at the park? If you are going right after the cruise, we’ll be there too (five full days), but we might not be going to P&PP. Maybe I could hop on to your share for that time period? I’ll PM you…

4) If a number of us share one Pass, do we all share the cost equally, or is it proportionate to the number of photos you get taken?

5) We should each plan on bringing at least one blank CD or DVD then. Even if we don’t share the PhotoPass, we can share our own digital pics.

6) How does the WDW PhotoPass integrate with the photo packages on the cruise?

7) Can you “share” the photo packages on board in the same way?

8) Are the Disney photographers really that good? Are they only available at set locations, like character meets, or are they wandering around too? Can you find enough of them to get a good number of shots?

Ultimately, this sounds like a great plan. If we end up going to P&PP, I’ll be on board to share.
:thumbsup2

Does anyone know if we can leave our lugage with DCL while we watch the launch? I figure we would need till at least 3:30, 4:00.

dizneyphan--There is no photopass system on the boats yet. What a shame!!!!

That would make it better for them I think. I would pay $124 for a disk with all my pics from the cruise. I don't think I am going to see paying $100 for shutters pics though.

Going out today to buy out the town!!! Got my list updated and now I just have to get dressed! LOL

Tara

I can only help you will a couple of your questions but here's what I know.
A few more questions:

1) Did we ever figure out what the 40% coupon is for? This is good for prints that you order off the photopass but not off the CD where you have all the photos and can do whatever you want with them

5) We should each plan on bringing at least one blank CD or DVD then. Even if we don’t share the PhotoPass, we can share our own digital pics.

6) How does the WDW PhotoPass integrate with the photo packages on the cruise?Unfortunately Photopass is not available on the cruise-I think it would be much more beneficial here than in the parks even. I always have my camera in the parks would be nice to not have to always have it on the cruise

7) Can you “share” the photo packages on board in the same way?

8) Are the Disney photographers really that good? Are they only available at set locations, like character meets, or are they wandering around too? Can you find enough of them to get a good number of shots? You will see them both at the character meets and wandering around. They are really great about asking the kids to look at their camera and then allow me to take some with mine. I have had the ones wandering around offer to take a shot with my camera after they have taken one with theirs. So I basically have a copy of all the photos they take on my camera also. I would probably just order a couple of prints that I want their borders or enhancements on, so I probably won't be going in on the CD

Ultimately, this sounds like a great plan. If we end up going to P&PP, I’ll be on board to share.
:thumbsup2
