This thread has all you need to know about shuttle launches and Disney. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1647123 This Atlantis launch originally was to have gone in December (when that thread was started) and has been delayed several times. Apparently only 40% of flights launch on their originally scheduled dates (not sure if that includes the rescheduled dates).

There's only 13 more flights for the shuttle program before they retire all the space shuttles. This might be chance of a lifetime to see an 18-storey building blast into the sky.

The only part tempering this spectacle is bumper-to-bumper traffic all the way to Orlando, making for up to a four hour drive. Plus the hours waiting without washrooms, food, etc... We have to decide if we watch it, how will we manage it with the kids.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr! Our furnace stopped working overnight and our house is freezing!!! It's 19°F outside and inside it's dipping down to 57°F already. The repairman is coming this afternoon and hopefully he can fix it.

Welcome aboard!! I am so glad you posted. I was beginning to think that my DS(3 will be 4 next month) was going to be the only young boy on board! Is this your first cruise? We are getting very excited around here:woohoo:

Damn!

We got stuck behind a "gag order" for the last 24 hours. They periodicaly close down ALL internet access for security reasons. We never even know why. Anyway, I'm back now, and boy have you guys have been busy. 700 posts? At this rate I think 800 is not unlikely. Well, I have a lot of catching up to do, so prepare for a series of posts...

Better now than when we are on vacation! There would be nothing worse than coming home to frozen pipes!!

Welcome back! Although I was kinda hoping that you were on your way home. I still have my fingers crossed that your trip back is uneventful!

[snip] Shawn, thank you for your service and praying for your safe return. Or, are you back yet? I wasn't following the dates so much as I was trying to keep everyone straight!

[snip]Shawn: ... I am sending you lots of :wizard: :wizard: for safe and uncomplicated trip home.:flower3:

Thanks again to everyone for you supportive words, positive vibes, and pixie dust. I'm not home yet, not till next Wednesday.

One thing we do on our trips is take a seperate "travel bag". A smaller bag that we can use for our clothes en route to our final destination. Or you can use the bigger bags and pack the stuff you need for the first couple of days on top. I wouldn't worry one bit about duplicate clothes. Honestly, you'll be talking about the event you were at or how much fun you were having that day and not your outfit.

For traveling to and from Iraq we are instructed to pack a "72-hour Bag" just in case we get stuck somewhere without our lugage. Always good to be prepared. :thumbsup2

Okay, Tara, next trip for you is Disneyland with good ol' disfriend, Steph:thumbsup2 That would be so much fun! I would love to go to Disneyland with another Disney fan! I am totally serious!!! plus you wanna come check out San Diego, right?:thumbsup2

If Lisa warms up to you all, she might be interested in something like this. Her and Aaron head down to DL once or twice a year. (I don't go with every time)

CORRECTED!!! On our cruise last year, the meet was held in the Atrium (Capt. Mickey statue) at 3pm BEFORE the lifeboat drill (4pm). This worked out well IMHO.

I think I was told this is the typical meet location/time for DIS groups.

Stop posting photos like that! I can't stand the anticipation. :hyper:

It's still somewhat un-real as long as I don't "see" it like this. ;)

Hey, Tara. Thanks for the offer to hang out the shingle, but more than likely, we'll stay closer to the port. For now, the plan is to get in, grab a bite to eat, and get some rest. However, Glenn's usual MO is to decide about 48 hours out- Hey, let's leave in 24! That's when the real fun begins. Should be used to this by now, but he manages to always surprise me.

Jen, the more the merrier. I'm a late addition myself. We have kids the same ages- but its a DS8 and DD4, along with DS10. It should be great fun.

Saw a night launch on a Sat. night in 12/06-very cold and windy. Traffic was bad, for a short time, but nothing like I'm seeing described here. Maybe it has to do with the launch day/time. Hoping since its mid-week and during normal work hours that it won't be so bad. Not sure if we should tell the kids at that time that we're going to WDW for the week-end or if we should just pull up to the hotel. Could make for an even longer ride I guess!

[snip]

I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by the choices. Re-thinking what we've booked already (couples spa thing on sea day, just the banana boat ride on CC, and Atlantis room in Nassau). Did not book Palo, but sort of wish I booked a brunch now- just a little unsure how kids will do in the clubs-mainly DD4 and really in need of some good family time anyway). Don't really know what changes, if any, to make. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Janet

Take a deep breath. :rotfl:

Try not too second guess yourself too much. You'll drive yourself nuts, plus your first instinct is usualy your best.

Having said that, and this being our first cruise too, I'd say go for the Palo Brunch if you can still get in (or try for a last minute ressie on board). My understanding is that the Kids Club can give you a pager for in case your young'uns need attention

Hi all,
Think we're sticking around for the shuttle. Saw a night time launch last year and it was awesome. Said if we were lucky enough to be there for a day launch, we'd hang around for it. We're headed for the parks for 3 days after that but the kids don't know about it. They're excited about the launch but they don't know what's waiting for them. Kind of feeling like I want to go straight to MK- I'm flip-floppin about everything these days!

What time is everyone getting to the port? We have to make a reservation for Sat. night. Want to stay somewhere close to get there early to start soaking in the atmospehere. Plan on parking and paying at the port. Anybody know of any hotels?

Thanks, Janet

Where do you go to watch? I totally want to do this.

I actually wanted to be a Shuttle Astronaut when the program was just starting in the 80's. I skipped school, and set up three TV's in the same room so I could watch the first launch on all three net works.

Yikes! I don't think I have ever felt 19F cold in my life:faint: ...hope the repairman fixes it soon!::yes::

Oh, that would be so cool! we will be at WDW at that time...maybe will get to see it next time!:)

I thought I read somewhere you can actualy see a night launch from WDW! I read about some folks who got to go to the roof of the Wilderness Lodge and see it!

We'll be at WDW that night too. In fact, we're spending the following five days there.

Who else is going to WDW after the cruise?
