Hi Guys :goodvibes

We are lucky enough to be able to have two nice holidays abroad each year and we have always done WDW in Feb/Mar and then Spain/Portugal in August.

However after our last trip to WDW in Feb/Mar this year, the weather was so disppointing (we only managed two days in the pool out of three weeks :sad2:) we decided to try a change and we have booked a villa on FG for August 2011 :woohoo:

This leaves me looking for a holiday for Feb 2011 probably somewhere like Tenerife...... Everytime we go to Europe though, we kind of end up wishing we had gone to Florida instead..... If I stretch my imagination slightly :rotfl: the price pretty much balances out for us as the villas in Europe that we like the look of are always pretty pricey and we pay around £1k for decent flights, so even if we flew PE to the states the villas over there are so much cheaper it evens out...... honest!

I suppose the main things putting me off Florida are jetlag, the length of the flight (no matter how I try to enjoy it (even in UC!!) I find it a bit of a struggle - or is it just the thought of it???) and then there is risking the weather again?!? especially as we don't spend a great deal of time at the parks these days we just love being in Kissimmee.... and then there is the problem that we have become accustomed to flying UC for our last three trips (we were warned that there would be no going back!!!!) and as stupid/spoilt as it sounds, we haven't flown PE for a while and I just can't picture what it is like :confused3

I'm going around in circles....

I know if I talk to DH about it (he normally leaves all the bookings to me :thumbsup2) he will say let's do Florida - so why do I feel reluctant :confused3

Please feel free to ignore this ridiculous post - I think I need a shrink!!!!!

Ali :goodvibes

PS - perhaps I'm just hoping you'll all say we must do Florida:rotfl:

Same boat really (not UC unfortunately, PE though which is something). We have the annual May 3 weeks which is perfect weather to be honest but now eldest daughter is leaving Kindergarten and going into Reception we're trying to shift to school hols so we started thinking about where to have our second holiday.

Looked at all the European options and just couldn't stomach it even though we're Disneyland Paris Annual Pass holders too. It's a fortune to stay anywhere nice and although flights are reasonable, food and drink isn't and there is nowhere near as much to do.

So we're back to Florida in two weeks time for another fortnight.

Next year I think we're aiming for a single holiday for 4-5 weeks. I'm sort of self employed so we're quite flexible and secretly (or not so secretly) we want to move there so would like to get a feel for what it's like to stay for longer. Eg, I need to learn how to get control of the killer heartburn I always get when I'm there lol.

Anyway, the crux of this post is...add up all you've spent going to Florida, and if you don't think it's worth every penny, go to Portugal. Despite the disgusting amounts we've spent over the years, I always remember Florida over material possessions, hence two hols a year to Florida and a ten year old car that keeps nearly dying on me on the motorway to work!

I think that as long as you're not putting your finances in jeopardy then I say go for it!

Really, I know sometimes when you look at it practically Florida might not always be the cheapest option but happiness is a very difficult thing to put a definite price on anyhow. It's human nature to feel you should justify big expense but really...if you work hard and it makes you happy, why should you have to justify it. If you spend your time in Tenerife secretly wishing you were really in Florida then I think you should go with your heart and take the risk with the weather.

It was very freak weather this year in Florida - obviously there's always going to be a chance of something going a bit funky and it being cold, but the same could be said in Tenerife or anywhere else - freak weather can be freak anywhere! At least in Florida there's other nice stuff to do in a worse case scenario :)

Well, you had bad weather this year, so next year you might be due extra nice! (I'm keeping ym fingers crossed for our wedding!)

Also, as you seem to be lucky enough to have lovely holidays, have you considered Dubai?

I went in early March and it was beautiful weather! Perfect for the beach/pool.

I have been looking at a week at the Atlantis, and it's around £3000 with flights for the two of us.

It is one of the more expensive hotels as its new and on the Palm, last visit we were at Al Qasr, which is just stunning! I'd not hesitate to recommend it!

HI Guys and thanks so much for your replies :goodvibes

I suspect I was right all along in that I just wanted you all to say Florida so I would feel better about it :rotfl:

Spoke to DH tonight and as I thought, he didn't hesitate to say Florida. I've thought about it a lot today and stupidly I guess I just 'worry' that we should be visiting other parts of the world :confused3 I can safely say that the only holidays I ever get that 'butterflies' feeling about is booking to go to Kissimmee, it's not even all about the parks really, we just love being in Kissimmee :lovestruc

So I have already emailed the guy we book our villas through and he has come back with a great price for the villa we stayed in this year on EI, I am happy to fly PE but DH says we should fly PE out and UC back :confused3 so we need to agree on that one....

Still more thinking to do but I think we can all see where this is heading in the Europe vs Kissimmee contest :rotfl:

I feel so excited just thinking about going back :woohoo:

Thanks for the Dubai info, again love the idea of Atlantis, it looks stunning but we prefer villa holidays. Perhaps we will try Atlantis in addition to Kissimmee when we win the lotto :thumbsup2:lmao:

Thanks again, really appreciate you input :thumbsup2

I feel so excited just thinking about going back :woohoo:

I think that's says it all about what you should do!

Florida, Florida, Florida, Florida, Florida, Florida, Florida, Florida....

Am I helping? *giggles*

Wooooo!!

Dubai is gorgeous - but you are going to the better of the two! ;)
