Feb 20, 2011 - Presidents' Week - Mexican Riviera

Bayportkat...I'm glad to hear they were able to move you to a better room. Now you know the luxury of a verandah and will want to sail that next time.

I was going to write a trip report on here but couldn't figure out how to do the picture thing through photobucket. I am kind of clever with some things and not so much with others. I decided to do a blog so that my family and friends could read it as well. Here is the link. Hope you enjoy it....even if you don't....just pretend you did! :)

Great blog! I liked the ratio of pics to words...thanks for sharing! :goodvibes

And, DH and I are with Dishy--what is the first towel animal????? We had totally different towel animals...our stingray looked a little like that, but your towel animal is standing up...I think.

Great blog and photos! Did I miss it or did you leave out the last sea day and the galley tour?

LKFan...thank you so much. I don't know how I skipped a day. Maybe it had something to do with the 3 little people I was driving around all day and being distracted by. It is up now, but it is out of order. I am not techniologically advanced enough to know how to rearrange them. Hopefully people will figure it out before they read it.

Did anyone rebook for next year
We did but dh has been so motion sick since we've been back that he's basically said, "No way, no how, am I ever getting back on a ship." Given my own seasickness tendencies I guess there probably won't be too much cruising in our future.

What's everyone else's opinion on dining room food on the Wonder?
I thought lunch and dinner were pretty good. Not outstanding, but not bad either. As for breakfast, if they would just learn not to make slimy scrambled eggs I'd be happy.

BTW - both of my boys (5 & 9) had a high fever Wed/Thur - so glad I brought enough motrin/tylenol with me. I was in the gift shop on Sat and heard they had completely run out! thanks again all!
On Fri evening we got to the Walt Disney Theater about a half an hour early to get good seats for the show. About 10 minutes before the show is about to start the lady behind me starts laughingly telling her friend that her husband is in the room cleaning up after one of their kids that threw up in their bed. :scared1: Apparently someone else in their family had also been sick earlier. Did I mention that they had about four kids right behind us eating popcorn and leaning into our seats? My first reaction was to move but by that point the only seats left were on the sides or way back. I immediately called dh who was at the snack bar and told him to bring lots of disinfecting wipes. My son put his hands near his face and I flipped out. :lmao: Later on the lady's husband came and suggested to the friend that they keep their distance. Then he saw the kids eating popcorn and had a fit. popcorn:: I was glad that at least one person in their family was taking it seriously. Yes, I'm a germaphobe when it comes to GI problems. Our family is notorious for having someone come down with some form sort of cold/flu/virus in the latter parts of a trip. I'm happy to say with this trip the only sickness we've suffered from is of the motion variety.

I think it was XMom who told me and my wife about another shooting in Mazatlan the week of our cruise, which was brought up at the Q and A with the Captain. Was that right, XMom?
On our Las Caletas trip there were people from the Norwegian Star on the boat with us who were telling people about the shooting in Mazatlan. I knew when the Splendor pulled into port at Cabo that first day that they must have decided to bypass Mazatlan as a result.

Somewhere on cruise critic I read an account of one the Norwegian Star passengers. Apparently they were shopping in the Golden Zone when all of a sudden people started shooting multiple rounds from AK47s. He said they hid behind a wall and that there was a nearby security guard also hiding but with his gun pulled. The guy also said that there was a trolley that was leading a Norwegian Star excursion that was in the parking lot very close to the gun fire. (Apparently the hotel this occurred at is next door to a very prominent Diamond Exchange which many tourists frequent.)

The photobucket thing is why I've only gotten through the first day on my trip report. :rotfl: And Ronald was our head server too. He was almost too attentive the first few days truthfully. I can't complain though because I thought our whole serving team was first notch.

My son put his hands near his face and I flipped out. :lmao:

Oh man, I wish we would have realized who each other was. This is so much something I would have done. And my kids would have jumped back and looked at me as if I was crazy. We go to the doctor's office and I make them sit down without touching the chair or anything around it.

My husband also ordered the chicken parmesan and it was excellent!

For those that are interested I've got a trip report I've started at http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2668187. I'm not quite as speedy as X-Mom so I've just finished with the first sea day (the photobucket thing is killing me).

I'll tell ya...the only reason I strayed from doing the trip report on the dis boards was the whole Photobucket thing. I was just so frustrated and the Google blog was so simple. Take your time, it will just all of us relive it a bit longer.

Yep, my 8 year old was a Mario Kart junkie. I wonder how often they clean those controllers.

The infant Advil I bought at TK was $5.95. Still a lot considering it was only two doses. The medical office sold the 4 oz 100mg children's liquid for $8.xx.

I checked with my DH - he said we were only charged 5 something for the Infant Advil too, though the box says 8.95 - what a bargain! lol

We've had a couple of nice days here at home, hopefully Spring will be here for good soon! I'm not quite ready to give up this cruise yet though, so I started a trip report too. I'll have to go and read the other TR's that have started for our cruise. It seems to make it last a little longer!

LKFan - do you have any pics of your son? I'm wondering if my DS remembers yours from the lab...

Here is my TR:

XMom, talie, silence, and samily, very cool trip reports! I enjoy reading each of them.

XMom, I just realized we were in the same canopy zipline group. We are the family with two tweenage girls who always wanted to be the first ones to try each zipline ;) It was nice meeting you guys.

Ahhhh yes.....they were cute. It was great to see how excited they were for each new adventure. We really enjoyed our excursion. We were a bit jealous that they were able to sleep on the way back. Too bumpy and windy for me to sleep.

It's funny how many people were from the San Jose area. Almost everyone we met that lived in CA was from there.

That's funny, we seemed to meet a lot of people from the Sacto area.

Aunt Amy - I think we kept running into you and your niece that first day. I think we ended up at the first photograph station and security about the same time. (And the kid's club, and getting on the boat, and probably just about everything else that morning.) We were a family of four with an big 8 year old boy with longish hair and a 6 year old red headed girl with glasses. I've got a photo of the family in the first post of my trip report (I've got a link in my sig).

Yeah, I think I remember seeing you guys. There were a few families that we saw all the time.

I think I'm slacking and should probably post some pictures.

We went for the Paradise Beach Adventure in PV and the Beach Resort Getaway in Cabo. Nothing really caught our eye in Mazatlan (well, that the kids would also like), so we may just walk around a bit and then hang out on the ship. We also got the Palo brunch on the last day.

How did you like the Beach Resort Getaway in Cabo?

I'm so glad you asked this question--because it just wasn't the best excursion and I'm not sure if anyone posted about it. We were led by a cast member to the Cabo information center, given wristbands and then we boarded luxury buses to the resort. It was a beautiful day and as we entered the resort, my hopes were high. We were led through the lobby and out to the back of the resort, to the pools and the beach. It looked lovely, but here's the problem: as we were being led out, the hotel guide says to us: "Here's the buffet (which was delicious) and here's the area where you can sit." He then points to a covered patio next to the buffet which was large, but far from the pools, out of the sun and very far from the beach. When questioned about this, he explained, "Our hotel is full occupancy today, so we don't have room by the pool or on the beach. This is your designated area." Oh the uproar! Initially, I was mad, too, but then I decided to ignore him and I hightailed it to the beach area, where I found a few chairs, gave the chair guys a tip and made myself at home. The problem is, we all felt like intruders! Many people complained and I hope this problem has been corrected by now, but you might want to see if there are other trip boards with comments. I'd also note that there were a lot of vendors at the beach area and my husband and kids were able to jet ski (vendors walked around asking about that, too) and it wasn't too expensive.

ALSO, my favorite meal of the trip was on day two in Cabo (we had a short day there) at a place called the "Cabo Cantina". Just looked it up on Trip Advisor and confired it was the place--it has some really good reviews. The homemade salsa was just amazing and everything we had was delicious.

Hope this helps!
