Feather Extensions

Just a bit of info. Did you know that the roosters are specifically bred to produce those fancy feathers (the feathers were originally used for fishing lures) and that the roosters die during the plucking of these feathers. They may be cute, but, personally, I can't stomach that.

Now someone mentioned tinsel.... tell me more....

wow, these are around again? lol I had these back in hairdressing school in 1980! wore them for years...:confused3 ok for kids I guess...

Yeah- didn't they attach by a roach clip and that was the real purpose of them?? :lmao: Maybe that was just he folks I KNEW.... ;)

I had no idea these were "back" :confused3 I'll leave these and the pants with the "tush writing" to the young.... :thumbsup2

I think they are cute and said I wanted some too since she and DDiL both have them and DD told me if I get them hers are coming out! Said I was too old!!! What a party pooper!!

They do look really silly on adults! Kids they are fine on but adults just look odd with them!

....

But you'll eat a chicken -right?;):hippie:

The roosters will still die, because the feathers will still be plucked for fishing lures just like they have been for years. Rooster feathers aren't the only ones used either.

I like the tinsel look too tho.:goodvibes It's great that it doesn't mean an animal is hurt by them, unless you count them going into landfills and birds or other animals finding them and possibly choking on them or eating them and getting their insides all twisted because of them.:sad1:

I found a birds nest once that had sparkly plastic thread wound into it, it was beautiful! You could really see all the work that went into making the nest. Just Amazing.

Yes, because the entire chicken is used. It is not just plucked of it's feathers and left to die and then thrown away, which is what happens with this type of rooster. It's just my personal feelings. I couldn't wear that in my hair knowing that. I can't wear fur either.

Yes, I know. It's just my personal feelings about it like I said above. Apparently the fisherman are really teed off because they can't find this type of feather any more because all the hairdressers are buying them up.

I just posted that info because maybe there are some people that didn't realize that the feathers had to come from an animal that had to die for a fashion trend.

Now if dog hair extensions were to become popular I could make a mint... and the dog just drop the hair everywhere :rotfl2:

Didn't mean to start a morality debate about roosters. Since plucking the feathers isn't new, just the purpose they are used for; I don't see the big deal.

As far as older women having them; I don't, but a friend at work does. They are the brown colored ones so are almost the color of her hair and during work she just fixes her hair so they aren't obvious. But I don't think they look silly at all. Maybe if she had chosen hot pink ones or something :confused3

I had the roach clip feathers, back in the day; mine were purple. They hung on my rearview mirror. But they were a lot bigger than the ones I have seen in hair.

I did see on TV that you can order some with a small clip for $10 that are supposed to go in and out easily. I think I will order some of those in addition to getting the other's put in so she can change the look some.

dd and I have been seeing these quite often as well - I think we did see the report of fishermen and lures -

well, I thought, how hard could it be?

went to the local mall, didnt see any
went to a flea market - didnt see them (saw some attatched to large barrette type clips)

went to an outlet indoor mall - saw a kiosk that will put them in, the thin ones were $8 the smaller ones $6 - including installation (I was going to buy them, but she had to put them in, and dd wasnt with me!)

went to another store - there they were! $19.99! Read how they attatch, and it did remind me of the hair wraps dd got at Disney - that you want to take a piece of hair, wrap and put it inside this bead, and then clamp that bead around the hair...

I was fascinated!

Oh no debate. I don't fish, so I really had no idea these type of feathers even existed. A co-worker has them, and when I saw the article about the fishermen being angry, I just started to read more about them. I really don't care if others have them, I am just saying they are not for me for this reason.
