OK...man I make a lot of threads....OK so my mom nor I like...drops and..heights and.....stuff. We're kind nervous about Everest (we're defs still going on though!! :D) Exactly how bad is Everest? K thanks

It really is not that bad. The big hill that you see from outside does not drop straight down. A good portion of the ride is in the dark. My advice to you is to keep your head on the headrest. It can be a bit jerky. I love this ride. Could do it over and over and over again.

i too am scared of Everest.

it is one of the thrill rides i havent been on, im also scared to try....

Splash
Big Thunder Mountain
RnR
Mission: Space

and believe it or not still not tried Maelstrom - i heard people scream from the outside last time and i turned around and walked away lol

i am a ride chicken, hate drops and such,
ever since i went on the ToT :scared1: with my dad in 2007 and have been a ride chicken.

really want to try these rides above tho and everest just to say ive done everything disney has to do, ive done space mountain and thought nothing of it, just a giant mouse trap ride in the dark lol (not sure if its called mouse trap in the USA)

anyways ill stop hijaking the thread now lol

O.P im with you, i feel your anxiety and i too will be trying this ride in October.

watch some of the videos online about the ride, the drops seem banked drops not direct drops and that can make all the difference in the feel of the ride, ive heard its alot smoother than say space mountain and big thunder as its newer wether that is true or not is a different story

Everest is my favorite ride at Disneyworld. It does have the one big drop but it does bank so it isn't as bad as a straight down drop would be.

As for BTM, RNR there are no big drops. RNR goes really fast and has inversions but doesn't last very long. Mission Space is not bad, especially if you go green. I had to ride the green side until my son was older, it was very mild. Splash, of course has a big drop but it is fun.

I am not a fan of rollercoasters. Really, I don't like them. However, I like Everest (and Space Mountain. But that's it.)

It's smooth and the drops aren't that big. I think the backwards element adds a lot to it :)

I think what scared me about EE was seeing the hill going up and then the hill going down. I thought they were part of the same hill. I watched Youtube videos to make sure my son was telling the truth that they were not(never trust a teen who's trying to get you on a rollercoaster, LOL)

I do NOT like big drops(will never do Splash again), but the drop on EE doesn't really bother me. It starts to curve right away and I don't get that stomach in my throat feeling on it. It IS fast when you go down, so you are pulled back in your seat. And the backwards part feels weird to me, but doesn't make me sick.

I'm a huge ride chicken but love Everest. Ride in the front and the drop isn't that bad!

Every time I am on EE going up that hill I am terrified. I look at my DH and keep saying , "I want to get off, why do I go on this" over and over. Once the drop starts I remember that it is not bad at all because it banks. It is such a fun ride!

i like the part where you are high up and get to see a lot of the park.

there's one little dip in the dark that is the only "bad" part for me. i loved it when i was younger, but as i've aged a little - it's not as fun as it used to be...

i still ride it but only once or twice and then move on to something else. i'd definitely try it once.

and believe it or not still not tried Maelstrom - i heard people scream from the outside last time and i turned around and walked away lol

Give Maelstrom a try! I would guess the screaming you heard was from people who did not know that it goes backwards for a bit. It's really nothing to be concerned about and the ride is pretty cool. I definitely wouldn't be scared off of it, even for a ride chicken! ;)

Everest isn't really all that bad. The drop sort of "curves" as you are going down. Therefore its not a straight drop. Outside of that there really isn't anything else you can't handle. The part where it goes backwards can confuse you because its in the dark and the track is actually on a "decline twist." The good thing is it stops and allows you to regain your marbles.

Have fun! Its a blast!:cool1:

Here's some tips for getting through Everest from someone else who hates drops and heights.

1) Don't be intimidated: Everest, like Splash, is strategically placed so that for your entire walk towards it you hear, and see people screaming down the front of the mountain. Go there first thing in the morning so that the line is short, the amount of people screaming is low, and you don't have time for your brain to think about it.

2) The way up: The way up is high. You know this by looking at it. If heights are a problem, look straight ahead of you or get in the most interesting conversation you've ever had with your mom.

3) The way down: The way down isn't as bad as it looks. The drop is 80 feet, with a banked curve at the end so you don't get that 'tummy' feeling that drop haters hate. Splash Mountain is 50ish feet and I would never get on it again if the story weren't so good. I ride Everest three or four times in a row.

4) Location, Location, Location: Ride in front. The very front. Don't worry about what you might see. The ride is infinitely tamer if you ask to sit in front.

I am a "chicken" about some rollercoasters...don't like RNR...but the drop for Everest doesn't bother me. It's really not that bad. I always request a seat from front to the middle though because the backwards part bothers me when I sit at the back. One time they sat my DH and I in the FRONT seats though and before I could protest to my "happy" husband we were on our way. It was actually pretty cool in the end lol!

I have no issues with heights; however, the backward portion of EE makes me horribly motion sick. I don't ride it for this reason.

I forgot to address Maelstrom in my earlier post.

There are two drops on Maelstrom, one backwards and one forwards. Both seem to be about the size of the "drop" in Pirates. Seriously, nothing to it. Before you go backwards, there is a part where it looks like you are about to go over a waterfall and I think that's when many people scream.

It took me 5 trips to WDW before I rode EE. I LOVE it now and it is at the top of my list, even though I am not a huge roller coaster fan. The only part my BFF and DH have ever complained about is when it goes backwards. As for me, though, it is a must do!:thumbsup2

My DH hates heights and drops. He will not ride ToT, RnR, has been on Splash Mountain and hated it, but he loves Everest! Really no big drops. You'll be fine!

The height on Everest is only really noticeable while going up. THe drop at the end you can't really see coming so it's over before you get the chance to be scared. None of the drops on Everest personally bother but. There is a part as PPs have mentioned that you go backwards. It bothers some peoples necks but personally it doesn't bother me. I personally don't find Everest any "rougher" than Space Mountain minus a larger drop and the backwards aspect. IMO it's a lot smoother and less rickety. Hope this helps- I'm sure you'll like it once you are on- you sound determined to ride so just don't over think it and you'll be fine. I over thought RnR for 5 years and when I finally road it I was like... this is it. really?

For those who have problems with the backwards part of Everest. Have you tried sitting towards the front? I used to have problems with feeling very queasy after the backwards motion. Sitting in the front helps me.
