Fearing a Sci Fi Dinner!

I made a ps for the Sci Fi for dinner and then read some pretty bad reviews! My boys really want to eat here, but we're bringing my dad too - and he's a SUPER picky eater. Will they let grandpa order a burger even if it's dinner time?? My dad would never complain in front of the boys, but I really want him to enjoy himself too. HELP. Any suggestions on enjoyable dinner items would be appreciated too. Thanks!

We have never had dinner at Sci Fi but we have really enjoyed it for lunch twice - to me it is a good place for burgers and onion rings, not sure what is on the dinner menu.

He will have no problem ordering a burger or sandwich for dinner. We really enjoyed this place last year when we went. The food isn't "gourmet", but it was more than fine. Go.........have fun!

My DH and I had dinner at the Sci-Fi in September of 2003. I would not recommend it. IMO the food was way over priced (but what isn't anymore) and the food really wasn't good. The milk shakes were ok. The only thing the place had going for it was atmosphere. :confused3

We've done lunch at the Sci Fi, but never dinner. Disney is SO accomodating on most things that I would venture to guess they would let your dad order off the lunch menu if they had the ingredients.

We thought the food was fine. It's not fancy, but it was more than edible. It reminded me of a chain like Applebee's and places like that. The milkshakes are incredible!! If you like milkshakes, it's a must try...the cookies and cream one was really good!

Your boys will love it...mine are 9 and 5, and at the request of my older son, we had his birthday lunch there in May of last year for his 9th birthday. It also happened to be Mother's Day that day, so it was double the fun!

Have a great trip!

Okay, I'm much less concerned now. I'm glad to hear that everyone enjoys those milkshakes so much! Thanks - MarcyinPA - for the idea on the cookies-n-cream one. My boys -11 & 6- will probably love them. I hope that we get a nice CM who lets us get a burger or two at dinnertime! Thanks for the info!

Food is mediocre. Atmosphere is worth dining here, though.

I'm sure they'd let him get a burger. Can you call ahead and ask or stop by before your PS time?

be very afraid. Two words: Dried Up.

However, I must say the theme is fun so I would recommend you do it once for that reason alone. A burger is a burger, right? Well...not exactly but it's fun nonetheless. We went once. I'm glad we did. I won't go back.

I can definitely stop by a few hours before our ps. What do you think I should do? - speak to the person at the podium? For some reason, I worry about encountering a crabby CM. Any info is appreciated. Thanks! :)

We ate at Sci Fi for the first time in December for lunch and really enjoyed it.
We read so many bad things about it that we were really worried about eating there, but we are glad we did now.

The burgers are not listed on the dinner menu but you can order one with no problems. You just have to ask for it, and we thought they were good. They are pretty big though, if you are not a big eater you can tell the waiter you will be sharing one and they will bring it out cut in half and on separate plates.

I am really suprised at all the bad reviews here. We've eaten there everytime we visit, kids absolutely love it, never had bad food. Sure it's expensive, what isn't in WDW??

BTW, I had a burger at dinner, no problems getting one.

I would say that if you happen to be walking by Sci Fi, stop in and tell them you have a dinner PS, but were wondering if it would be a problem to order a hamburger even though they aren't on the dinner menu. Although, I can't imagine you being denied this.

We LOVE Sci-Fi. The food has always been great (we've always had sandwiches and things like that) and the milkshakes are fabulous! I'm sure they'd let you get a hamburger for dinner. And like a previous poster said, any sit down meal at Disney is going to be overpriced. We've always thought it was worth it. ::MickeyMo

If you want to enjoy the atmosphere at Sci-Fi, try going there for dessert. My DH and I love the shakes, they are made with real ice cream. Our dinner experience there was our worst meal ever at WDW.

We have eaten LUNCH here several times and have always enjoyed it - never had anything dried up or bad tasting. (we always get the burgers & onion rings and I get a shake) How old is your Dad? He may be of the age where he knows a lot of the movies they are showing clips from. (from the 50's & 60's) Your boys are at the age where they will probably love it. My kids are DD6 & DS10 and they always request a meal there when we are at MGM. Which reminds me....I better start making some ps's for our trip in April! :)

Hope you enjoy it!

Have eaten there a few times. Have wheat and nut allergies, very accomodating, as are all the rest. Food was good, not great, not gourmet, not counter service, we enjoyed it and we are very very in to fine dining. Have a milkshake. Because of my husbands allergies the chefs at any rest. in Disney will invent a meal. Getting a burger will be NO problem, I promise. You can even call the chef 7 days before your ps as I do. Eat well and be happy. :flower:

They also have a pretty decent reuben sandwich. We always go here. It's not meant to be gourmet, it's a drive-in theater! But oh so much fun!!

...I absolutely agree...food is good enough...the theme and movie clips are entertaining (gramps will probably remember some) and he will get a hoot out of watching the boys have fun!
