Fear of Traveling Alone but..

To the OP, go for it! I am waiting (impatiently) for my 5th solo trip - all three to four days each - in a year's time. This time, though, I'm breaking the rules a bit and meeting a co-worker and her daughter for a full day in EPCOT and some time at Downtown Disney. That still leaves me a good two days ALONE!

I am married - 16 years - and my husband got "sick" of going to WDW as often as we did (3x/year), so I asked him, with much anticipation, if he would mind if I went alone. It took some time to convince him, but I'm so glad he came around because I have so much fun by myself.

As another poster said, I am also an only child, so I don't mind being alone. As almost everyone mentioned, you don't have to worry about what anyone else wants to do... you can choose when to get up, what park(s) to visit, where to eat. I also like to sit at the bars vs. a table in a TS restaurant.

Hope you decide to give it a try... it won't disappoint!!!!

I'm also 28, and I've done a solo trip to Disneyland Paris, which I thought it was great.

Do you enjoy time alone typically? If you don't, I'd say a solo trip might not be for you. At the very least, I'd say try a short trip first or extend a trip with friends by a few days for just you and see how it goes. As for dining alone, I've always hated it. Eating at a bar is better I think, and counter service is typically what I make do with otherwise. Oh, and I think it's a good idea to ignore what you were told and learn to talk to strangers...especially bartenders, if it isn't busy, they are usually super friendly and available for conversation:thumbsup2

I took my first solo trip to DW this past March. It was my 30th birthday and my friend had to cancel. I started to cancel my trip, but decided to go anyway. I am so glad I did. This was my first real trip alone anywhere, other than a day or two away. This trip definitely started a trend for me. I am going to take a trip alone at least once or twice a year.

I thought about the whole meet up thing, but I really didn't feel to comfortable with it. Maybe if I had been talking with someone for a while before I went.

Dining alone wasn't too bad. I did the bar thing once and it wasn't too bad at all. I talked to the bartender. He seemed kind of shocked I was alone. I ate at the food court at the resort a couple times alone. I ate at a few quick restaurants and cafes in Orlando. I mostly brought food back to my room or ate at the parks. I never eat out alone at home, but i really didn't feel lonely the few times I did eat out.

It was definitely more expensive, but in the end I felt it was worth it. This was the first trip where I had no one saying the didn't want to eat there, get up that early, stay at that hotel, ride that ride, etc. I rode one ride probably 7 times in one day. I would have never done that had my friend gone. I chose everything I wanted to do and I know for a fact it would be completely different had I gone with someone else.

I'm 22. I've taken 2 solo trips. Basically it was the only way I could go. My friends either do not have the same commando attitude about vacations I do or are more interested in spending their limited funds on alcohol. I prefer to spend mine on Disney.

That's exactly how I feel! I just went with my parents and my boyfriend and nobody wanted to keep up with me...plus my boyfriend was ALWAYS hungry. Lol. So I was considering doing a 4 or 5 night solo trip for my 21st birthday next September. Anyone have any advice? I don't think I would mind eating alone, but is it really awkward to be on the rides by yourself? I've never done a solo trip anywhere before, but I feel like Disney has always been my thing and it's a place where I would really appreciate the freedom to do my own thing at my own pace. Input anyone???

I agree with everyone's comments about solo trips! I had a chance to spend a day at Disneyland Paris last year after almost two weeks of traveling around Europe with two friends. While it was great traveling with other people, the contentment I felt being able to wander around, do what I wanted to do, and eat whatever and wherever I wanted was just sublime. I had such a wonderful time that when I went with my sister last December and she didn't want to buy passes for all 5 days, I didn't mind going to the parks on my own and seeing everything at my own pace. I ate at both CS and TS restaurants and since I too look young for my age, I always feel like some CMs are a bit surprised to see me alone but I've always gotten a great table and attentive service.

A milestone birthday is coming up this December but my family is tired of going to Disney(!) so I'm thinking of going alone and going all-out - GF or WL, ADRs at great restaurants I haven't tried yet, the Yuletide tour. I'm reluctant of spending my big day alone though. Maybe I'll sign-up for the Dec. 13 gathering since that's my b-day!:thumbsup2

Riding solo wasn't bad at all. A lot of rides have solo lines and you end up riding with someone else. No one knows why you are riding solo. For all they know someone is waiting outside for you. There were only a few rides (A Small World) were I felt kind of weird. Waiting in line alone was kind of boring at times. I brought my Ipod in case I really got bored, but never used it.

i am going solo for the FIRST time in my life to disney. I have gone many times on times, to the beach(etc.) and had a good time. My girlfriend and I used to have arguements at the beach so after the second time I went solo. And I had a good time. At disney there is so much to see I prob won't want to go with folks again. Go and have a good time.
Hi all

I've been to Disney 9 times, 6 of which was with my family. Now that I am 28, I have gone with friends three times. The thing that bothers me the most is that we get into fights about what we are going to do, eat, and what time we get to the parks, etc, so I am wondering if traveling alone would be a better option. It's much more expensive I realize but I would be able to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.

Are there people who meet up with others who are going alone on these boards? And is it lonely dining alone? I think it would be worst just sitting alone at the tables, I do love to read but still. And the fact that I can't really tell anyone "That ride was so scary/cool/fun"

I'm dipping into people who I am not that close to in order to get SOMEONE to go but I'm wondering if its worth it.

Thoughts?

I have already been this year and took my brother, and my two grandkids. The children had never been so it was fun. As for my brother he showed his hiney on several occasions. And I paid for us all!!! So this time it will be cheaper for me lol. diane

i have found that the single rider lines usually move very fast. ;) and your ride is still a lot of fun! sometimes my grandson and i get in that line just to get there faster. ::yes:: we always get separated but that works out fine. after all its disney! this is a great tension breaker when someone is irritated with the other, by the time you finish the ride everyone is in a good mood again.
