Yep, it means he is growing up and getting smarter. My DS went though a stage about 8 years old where he was afraid that a ride would break down with us on it. He got a real complex on TOT and still does not like elavators. He has yet to get back on it though he now rides everything else without fear. He somehow thought that the CM being on the ride with us made it ok.

I suspect that there will be other rides when you get there that he will not want to ride. Just reasure him that you nor WDW would ever put him in a situation that would not be safe. Accept his limits and enjoy what he is willing to do. I bet he now knows that dinosaurs once exsisited and those on the ride seem just a little too scary. I have seen much older kids freak on that one. Enjoy the trip and just wait for the next trip to do what he refuses.
