Fear of flying?

I'm glad to have found this thread.
We're going to WDW in September and I'll be flying for the first time in YEARS. We've driven the last 5 trips to Florida but this time feels different. I now have a DD (18 mo) and it's not necessarily the thought of driving her that far that is turning me off drivig but the fact that it now feels physically impossible to do it. Maybe I'm getting old or somethig but the days when I could pull 16 hour legs as the only driver are OVER.
All that said, we've booked non-refundable flights from Toronto (YYZ) to MCO -- On September 10th. I have to say that flying
the day before September 11th is making me even more upset but with free dining, MNSSHP, and our vacation dates (skipping labour
day), it just ended up that weekend was best. OY VEY.
My dr has given me Ativan in the past for work travel and I'm thinking of taking it. The only thing is that I've read on places like SOAR fear of flying forum that it can make anxiety worse!?
Any advice or pep talks would be greatly appreciated! We're flying non-stop but not at the front of the plane because DD's car seat is only allowed in coach.
Still a couple of months away but getting NERVOUS!! (;

Btw, yes, we bought a seat for DD who will be 20.5 mo. I know babies are free under 2 by I couldn't imagine needing to deal with DD as a lap baby as I was having a panic attack over flying. DP agreed to the seat, $400 more to fly, in order to ease my fears even more! I'm Crazy!!

I don't know about Ativan, but my husband has used Xanax and/or generic for over 20 years. He takes it when he flies and it has NEVER increased his anxiety. It works fine for him.

Fly early in the day. Very early. Early means less sun heating the earth's surface. Less clouds. Less convective heating. Less turbulence. Less airline schedule troubles all around. My husband, the airline pilot, greets anxious passengers all the time. He recommends the 2 "V's". Valium and Vodka. Just one of each. Not in a kidding way. There are times there is just "better living through chemistry".
If you do decide to partake in some kind of medicine, be sure and ops check it at least twice before flying.Find out 1. how long after ingesting does it take to work.? 2. how long does it take for the effects to wear off? 3. Does it work as advertised or just completely incapacitate you? Maybe adjust dosage? All good things to know. Kind of like commuting on that first cup of coffee; how long till I absolutely must find the restroom?
