FE Gift Ideas for Adults?

highlighters, hand-gel, little notepads/post-it pads, pens, drink cozies, door magnets, lanyards, bandanas (for pirate night)

I found stuff that I could use on the cruise to be good FE's...

I am working on FE gifts for Nov 28 Magic - our first time. Do people usually do goody bags for the cabin, versus individual items for each family member? And how much do people spend on average? I know some of the FE gift ideas seem amazing (and homemade) but I am now wanting this to consume too much time, which I don't have with 4 young kids! Plus trying to make sure it does not take up to much room in our suitcases!

And how do we plan for the # of cabins participating? I follow our cruise meet thread but wonder how many people sign up for FE weeks before the cruise.

I love seeing the stuff that is from wherever the giver lives! Like a state magnet, etc.

Most FE groups place a cut off date...sign up by this date or you're not in it. That gives people time to prepare. A typical cut off is a month before sailing. Each group is different. It's up to you whether you do one gift per cabin or one per person. Some groups decide to just do the kids. Some place a maximum on the cost, others leave it to the individual.

Ideas--after Halloween sales are GREAT for princess/pirate stuff. Dollar stores--look for things in multi-packs. You can find things like 10 Disney princess pencils for $1, 5 princess notebooks for $1. Our local JoAnn's fabric/craft store has a whole aisle of marked down kid craft items, again, some in multi packs. You can do a single item or you can do a "goody pack" of multiple items. ANYTHING with the pirate theme is a big hit! Another hit is "glow in the dark" stuff....necklaces, glow sticks, etc.

For older kids/adults, think consumables. That translates CHOCOLATE! I couldn't believe what a hit candy was with our crew as I thought there was way too much food on the ship, but these were big hits.

I'm amazed at some of the home made gifts, but that's certainly not necessary. Cruise magnets personalized with the date...or even with family names, etc...photo frames, etc.

A certain dollar store (*tree*) always has great ideas for <= $1 each:
pirate items (esp. during this season)
nightlights
mesh storage bags (that happen to be very close in color to 'disboards' green)
Expandable washcloths (several Disney variations, too)
beachballs & frisbees (also Disney brand)
lounge socks, loofahs, spa (lotion) gloves (for the ladies)

You can do family gifts or individual gifts. It's up to you and people do both. For our Nov 1st cruise we are doing an adult gift (not individual, per couple), and then any kids 13 and up will get one gift and anyone under 13 another. I won't say what since we haven't cruised yet and don't want to ruin the surprise. The 13 and under gift we chose is store bought, the teen gift we purchased and then personalized for our cruise, the adult gift we are still undecided. I also have 4 kids and tons to do before vacation so I couldn't do what some of the other folks on here do. As far as the number of cabins, most FE groups will set a cut off so that you have time to get your stuff purchased. We just cut ours off this past wk and we cruise Nov 1st. I did go back to the store to get more under 13 gifts since we had a few groups join before we closed and I had already picked up some stuff. I got lucky that the store still had what I needed. I would suggest waiting for it to close before starting purchases.

I really like the bookmarks and magnets that I've received in FE's. Those are things I still use. In one, we got a little ziplock bag with packets of sunscreen, bandaids, antiseptic pads, etc. That was very useful. :)

Basically, the only limit you have is your imagination. You can do just about anything. We just got back, and let's see. Some of the things we got; pirate stuff, rubber duckies, a lot of writing material, candies -especially loved all the chocolate, grin-, selfmade scrapbook, stateroomdoor magnets, make-your-own-drink set, a next-cruise-piggy-bank, lots of stuff typical for the region folks reside in, you name it.

We gave out little imprinted cotton bags with disney figures on it. Depending on the adult it can be used to store an MP3-player, mobile phone, camera etc. etc.

It really is the idea that counts. If there is anything special going on on your meet-thread; it is great fun to somehow do something with that.

We gave our ziplock baggie "Excursion kits" with: small bottle of antibacterial, small pack of tissues (we've had some unusual potty experiences in foreign ports!), a highlighter (personalized with a sticker and "Our Magical Cruise experience and the date) and a note to take the # of the Ship's Port Agent with you ashore, some breath mints (in case you swallow sea water) and a few other things.

As an adult I LOVED the CD we received of tropical type music (which I couldn't listen to until after we returned but it helped extend the trip for me). DD loved the rubber duckies -- especially the pirate one! We got way too much candy as I don't eat it and DD was too busy eating Mickey Bars, so we left a big old bowl for our cabin steward at the end.

On the "who to give for" -- totally personal. I gave 1 "Excursion kit" per cabin, intended for adults, and 1 kid gift per kid. I tried to coordinate, so if there were 2 children in the same age range per cabin they would get a "2" pack of something from the dollar store -- 2 sets of goggles, for example, for a 8 & 10 yo in the cabin, or a 2 pack of mini puzzles for a 4 & 6, etc.

Thank you all - this really does help me in planning. And the 1 month cut-off makes a lot of sense. We are surprising the kids with the trip - flying from CA and trying to totally surprise them by letting them think we are just going to Florida. So I am sure they will be blown away by the ship, the activities, and surprises at their door every day!!! CAN'T WAIT - this is the best part about being a parent -getting to see your kids so excited.

I get some plastic gift bags and put everything in there but some like to go throughout the day and deliver stuff. If you have a lot of rooms to do it is easier to just do it all at once. I bought some stuff at the dollar store and ordered other things from Oriental Trading company. I am looking at a total cost of around $50.00 but last cruise was much more because I spent alot making homemade photo albums. It's not about what you spend more of the spirit of it all just like Christimas lol! I am planning on at least 12 cabins so that's what I plan for and Oriental sells their gifts in 12's. I am in charge of my FE exchange and we are stopping the sign up about a week before just to make it easier to finish gifts. Also I am going to try to mail mine to my hotel this time so I don't have to carry them in my carryon.

I decided to do something for each adult/couple and them give each of the kids a goodie bag. For the adults I painted Mickey Mouse paintings (see on handmade FE thread at the end if curious, my avatar too ). Target has some of those glow sticks in the dollar section right now that could be good for the whole family on Pirate night. Or any night. ;) They also have a pack of 24 tiny decks of Disney playing cards in the Halloween section but they aren't HAlloween themed so they are GREAT. Good for everyone. :goodvibes Mini calendars are good for this time of year. ;) As was mentioned, can you possibly go wrong w/ chocolate? As long as it's not hot in your luggage.:rolleyes1 Some people have done scrapbooking kits. TOTALLY fun! Disney keyrings? Pins? Postcards from where you are from?

I'm going to hit the Mall of America for some final things. Our cut off is shortly but I think we have all the participants we're going to get. Not many. But that's okay. :grouphug:

LOVE the idea of the excursion kit. Stuff like anti-bacterial gels, tissues, etc!

As you can see, I'm not really good for ideas. Which is why I was glad I could do the paintings. :artist:

I just saw a photo on another thread of the things someone got in their FE. There was a mini Cocktails for Dummies book. I thought that was a great idea!

Can't tell you what tems we got as our cruise is in Dec, but a couple of them have been mentioned. :lmao:

It was difficult to buy for adults as you don't know what they have or need. :confused3 Do people give gag gifts? I'm not talking about those noise cushions you sit on or vulgar things but funny things, something out of the ordinary?

You Painted the drawing in your avatar!!!!! You are SO TALENTED!!! From what I can see - it's Gorgeous! I am going to the Fish Extender thread next to see better!!!!

I've done 2 types of gifts-one for the adults and one for the kiddos. I did a Halloween goodie bag for the kids with girl or boy kid tattoos, suckers, glow sticks, pirate rings, eye patches, and I had bought small containters of Play Doh but it smelled so icky I couldn't add it to the goody bag. Maybe I'll just add it to the FE. For the adults I have made a gift with their Dis name or their real name and I have special cruise chocolates.

I don't want to go off topic, but when you give your gifts, does everyone put a 'from' tag? I have all the bags made and with name tags/room # to make things easier on delivery days but I didn't put who it was from. Does that matter? I just figured we all know who is participating and you get what you get no matter what it is or who gave it to you. Should I be adding a from tag?

Some do and some don't. I will say I really enjoyed knowing who gave what, so this time I am adding a "from" tag to the gifts I give.
