FDP and the Dining Plan?

Hi All!

DH and I are going to WDW late Sept/early Oct and we will have the MYW Dining Package.

We are big fans of Fantasmic and have used the Fantasmic Dinner Package at H&V ever since its inception. We like the buffet, we like the shorter wait for Fantasmic, and we are happy with the FDP's seating.

We understand that you cannot use the MYW Dining Credits for the FDP, but some people have been lucky enough to still get the tickets for the FDP when dining at the FDP Restaurants when using the credits.

So here is the decision that I need to make:

Should I just eat anywhere we want and hope to still get decent seats at Fantasmic without waiting for over an hour? It IS late September you know!

OR

Should we make ADRs for the FDP at one if the FDP restaurants, plan on paying out of pocket, and if the FDP gods smile on us and our server gives us the FDP tickets, consider ourselves lucky?

Any thoughts on this would be great appreciated.

You like H&V, you like the package. BOOK IT. Worse case scenario you'll have extra credits to use for a signature meal later in your trip.

We lucked out with H&V and Fantasmic pkg. We were told by CM when we made ressie that we absolutely could not use the plan, so we ate a huge lunch @ the Sci-Fi and then had the buffet @ H&V, wow were we stuffed!

When the waitress brought the bill, I casually mentioned that I'd love to use our MYW dining plan, she very wisely accepted it. IMO the smart CM's know when to bend the rules, we expressed our gratitude with an additional tip.

We were told the same thing during our trip in June. When we went to pay for our FDP at H&V I just gave the server our room key to charge it to our room. When he returned, he had used our DP credits. I was very excited! I think it must be server discretion. There seems to be no consesus.

Thanks for the thoughts! We currently have ADR for Mama Melroses since we were trying to go to places where we never have been to before. But since the FDP works a little differently at Mama Melroses (you have to order from a reduced menu), I don't know how it would work trying to get the FDP there, unless we did order the specific things that were required with the FDP.

So I do think that I will make ADR at H&V and hope for the best.

PS - Hello back to keishashadow! DH worked in Springdale for a number of years. Wish he still worked there. He is all the way in New Stanton now and ANYTHING is closer than New Stanton!

IMO the only good reason to go to New Stanton is to eat @ Cracker Barrel.
