driving from NJ in July to HHI and looking for place to stay over. Doing the drive in 2 days...hoping to do about 8 hours first day and then 4 on Sunday.

From what I can gather Fayetteville, NC is it....looking at the Fairfield Inn there...any reviews?

Any other suggestions for hotels in area?
Thanks

Hi,

We have done this trip many times (although not recently) and have stayed at the Holiday Inn I-95 (right off the highway) and the Days Inn. The holiday Inn has been updated and is very convenient.

A friend told me that if you drive 1/2 hour or so longer down to Lumberton instead of Fayetteville you can shave $20-$25 off your hotel..and he was right. :D
We stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Lumberton-right off 95, they had a continental breakfast, an outdoor pool, interior corridors, and there is a Cracker Barrel & Ruby Tuesdays nearby.
I just made my ressies there for this year's trip. I am paying $60 with my AAA rate. Pretty good!
It's about 3 and a half hours to the HH resort from there.

I could be wrong, but I thought I read on previous threads that there are some better places to stop than Fayetteville.
Have you considered leaving early and driving it in a day? We've done that and it's worked out well.
Have a nice time!

there is a web site I95 .com it tells you every thing
on 95 from maine to florida

there are several big festivels that go one in Fayetteville. One is the Dogwood in the Spring, and Airshow at PoPe AFB and manuvers, deployment or returning troops at Fort Bragg, can mean no rooms anywhere. Otherwise it could be a good stop. It has the 82nd Airborne Sp. Ops. museum. It has life size displays of battle scenes and equipment to climb on. They are trying to make their downtown nice.

If you check on Travelocity.com, I think the HI goes for around 49.95, but they have a selection of other hotels too. I would def, reserve ahead as I have been stuck without a room before. If you travel like we do, in late and out early, I don't think all the frills are necessary for a one night stop, and you are better off saving the money for your time in HH.

We just stayed at the Holiday Inn off I-95 in March. We got a great deal with the Entertainment Book. You will need to show your Entertainment card. With taxes and everything we paid $54.86. They have either a King Room or Two Doubles. They have an inside pool which my daughter LOVED. Helped to get the car crazies out!

Their direct number is 910-323-1600
address: 1944 Cedar Creek Road

Easy to find! They can give you the exit number over the phone.
Places to eat nearby: They have a restaurant in the hotel
Shari's across the street
Waffle house down the road
A couple of fast food places
Gas station next to the freeway!

Convienent, clean, and very nice. Back in the late 80's and eatly 90's we used to go dancing there when they had a nightclub. DH used to be a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. Many Moons Ago!

We have done the trip from CT to HH the last three years. On the first trip we did not pull over for the night until we were ready to stop, and it was difficult to find a room. What we do is get the AAA book, and at about 3 o'clock we figure out about where we can make it to, and call ahead for a room, using a AAA rate. I would not recommend (even though it would be cheaper) to book through one of the services that you have to pay for the room no matter what. I know of instances that due to weather, traffic, etc. friends did not make that hotel destination, yet still were charged.

Good tip! Whenever we drive down, I make sure that our reservation has a liberal cancellation policy-at the Fairfield Inn we're staying at we have until 6 pm of the day we arrive to cancel.
We do drive home in one shot-but for going down, we don't feel the need to drive 13-14 hours to get there and have it be so late we can't do anything anyway, which is why we stop. We're there before noon the 2nd day.
We do the same thing when we drive to WDW-stop overnight on the way down after driving most of the trip(13-14 hours of the 18 hour trip) the 1st day, drive straight through on the way back.
Now THAT is not fun! We always say we're going to stop, but we just want to get home-next time we *plan* to, but sometimes you just want to be home.

When we drove down from NJ to HHI we stayed at the Sheraton Four Points (Fayetville) on the way down. It was relatively nice with a nice indoor pool and very convenient to I95. Four Points are generally reasonably priced (although we stayed for free using our Starwood Points). On the way back we stayed in Rocky Mount at the Courtyard by Marriott. This hotel and the Fairfield next door are relatively new buildings the Courtyard had a very nice indoor pool, although a bit on the small size.
