Is it true that Wilderness Lodge does not accept Fax Room Requests/Wishes? I know that no request is guaranteed, and I do have my possible wish list on my reservation, but I like to cover all bases. AllEars says they do not accept Fax's.
First time at Wilderness Lodge and am very excited!!

I'm not positive, but I think only POR/POFQ are the only resorts that still accept faxes. I've seen others mention going through Touring Plans for room requests, but I've never used them so I can't comment on how it's done. Hopefully others will post with information.

No, they all accept faxes. I've used the service from Touring Plans many times. And even had the CM at check in read the verbiage I put on the fax to me when I inquired on does our room fit our request. So I have confirmation they read the fax
Does TP have some super secret Fax number they use? Maybe but I'm inclined to think that the commonly reported (on The Dis) word that only PO resorts accept them was incorrect, or only correct for a brief time.

Awhile back, DVC informed their members that they were not accepting faxed room requests at their resorts. WL shares a check-in desk with VWL, so that policy carried over to WL, at least for awhile. Then, word got out that all of the resorts were told to stop accepting faxed requests, because a) the resorts were getting inundated in faxes and it was creating a whole lot of extra work, and b) it was never really part of their process, just a thing that started on internet boards.

POR apparently decided to be the exception, and for quite awhile, was the only resort known to take faxes. Then this Touring Plans thing started. I have no idea whether it was something they did with Disney's approval and cooperation, or are just sending faxes and hoping for the best. From reports here, it sounds like at least some of the faxes are being read.

The bottom line is, if your request is on your reservation and there's a room available on your check-in day that meets your requests, you'll very likely get them. Whether you fax or not. If there's not a room available that meets your requests, you won't get them, whether you fax or not.

Have you been able to get your requests? I used TP a few times and had the opposite of my requests. I request no connecting doors. We always seem to get them anyway. Maybe there are not many that don't have them.

One thing that's pretty clear from the reports we get here is that the method of making your requests really doesn't have much bearing on whether or not you get them. Whether you call, fax, write a physical letter, or use online check-in, the request is getting typed in a field on your reservation record. How the data gets into the field isn't important.

The factors that really do affect whether or not you get your requests are often beyond your control. Things like how many rooms there are that meet your criteria, and how many people are checking out of rooms that meet your criteria on your arrival date.

There are some ways to improve your odds. Keep your request list short, clear and simple, with your most important request listed first. For instance, "upper floor, pool view." Or, "first floor, close to transportation." Or, "connecting rooms, building 3." Don't try to help the room assigner by looking up a series of room numbers that have the view, floor, building, etc, you want. The odds of a specific room being open on your check-in date are never good, and then the room assigner won't have any idea why you wanted that room. It's better to describe your ideal room than specify it.

And always remember, room assignments are not set in stone. If you'd prefer a different location than the one you're assigned, you can always speak with a CM at the front desk and see if they can find something that better suits your preferences.

These are all great tips. We have had good luck with the front desk. Last trip we were moved to a castle view room at the Wilderness Lodge when I asked for a quiet location. We started out on the first floor near an exit and the noise was nonstop. Then at the Grand Floridian we had the loudest neighbors on earth. We were moved right away. Both times it was quick and easy :)

Yes, most trips I do get my requests. I keep them very simple and fairly easy to fill. I believe they try very hard to fill all requests they can but sometimes they simply can't.

Some resorts do have a lot of rooms that connect. We wanted connecting rooms last month so I stayed at a resort and booked a room category that had about 50% of the rooms with connecting doors. Connecting doors was my only request. I didn't care what floor or building, just connecting rooms. We did get them.

This is good to know! I have had great luck at the front desk any time I asked to change rooms. I do keep it in perspective knowing that so many people have requests and they can't give everyone what they want. A few times we have been surprised with upgrades so I try to keep my requests simple in case there is some extra magic available.

I have used touring plans fax request service twice now. Once was for Wilderness Lodge this past July, got a few rooms over from what I requested and then at Beach Club this past October and again was one or two rooms over from what I requested. No way could both of those been coincidence so I feel it works. My friend put in a request this past December for Beach Club for the room I had received and she got one room over. I am staying at Poly DVC next weekend and did put in my requests again through touring plans, I will be curious to see if I get my requests.

Not sure if you've ever looked at the text of the TP faxes but they don't actually request your specific room but rather use that room to create a request (using Disney "lingo) to request a room that has the same parameters as the room you used for your sample. So getting a room near, but with the same features, as your sample room is how it's designed to work.

You may well know this but others who haven't used it probably don't. I didn't want folks to think it requests 1 room specifically since that is indeed a poor idea. The best feature of the fax is it does inform the assigners the type of room you hope to get so they know what types, not what specific room, you want

right its just a general area that you are requesting bases on a room view on their site. I always look at their room views on touring plans, choose a room view that I like and have them generate the fax. thanks for clarifying.

FWIW, i've read more than once that negative requests ("no connecting doors for example) often backfire. The assigners are doing so much work tetrising the available rooms and reservations that they often don't see "no" or "not" on the request - they just see "connecting doors". You might be better not putting that request on and then asking at the front desk if it is connecting and if so if there is a non-connecting room available in person.

I did wonder if that was what happened. In 5 trips with split stays I think I have only had 2 rooms that didn't have connecting doors. Sometimes it isn't a problem. I'm a light sleeper and take a noisy fan but if I can still hear the neighbors I ask to be moved.

I'm not positive, but having worked in a room reservations office for another convention hotel, I can definitely understand how that happens.

That said, I suspect Disney *might* have a higher percentage of connecting rooms than your average hotel, just given the demographics.

I'll be interested to see if your request works. I have a request set in Touring Plans for a May stay at Poly DVC Studios and I emailed The site to see if it would work for DVC reservations. They said that it would but I'm skeptical.

I used the request form for my room last October and ended up 2 doors down from the room I asked for. I think it works. Typically I have horrible luck with my requests. And I make generic ones such as "Near a bus stop" only to be put smack dab in the middle away from 2 of them.

Yes, I know that. But you have to purposefully do that. I only mentioned that it doesn't generate it that way by default. For those who have never done it. Left alone the fax does exactly as is suggested, it tells the assigners they type of room you want and allows them to fill the request using that criteria from all rooms that fit it, rather than doing what is never suggested and that is to request a specific room.

Gotcha! :)
