anyone else disgusted by this? Seriously, can Twitter just go away? It's the most stupid, primitive, impersonal, and rude form of communication in the history of mankind.

I can't believe any self respecting person would announce someone death on Twitter

Seriously, the DIS is better than Reuters....:rotfl:

This has not hit the news web sites yet, at least not that I can see.

So sad that she suffered. I guess they never got a chance to get married?

It has been on Cnn homepage for a while.

My dad told me my grandfather died via an IM.

The twitter announcement does not bother me.

I really do not see anything wrong w/ this. She is a public figure and if you are a follower of her twitter (I don't twitter, so I don't know the exact terms of it) You would want to know. I believe the publicist was trying to let her fans know that she had passed away.

Twitter is just a communication tool. I don't use it but unless the message was worded in a tasteless, disrespectful manner I don't see why it is any more offensive than learning of her death from television or the internet.

I have not watched TV/news since 5 am this morning. I have not seen it pop up here on aol either. She has passed?

Very sad - unfortunately it did not look good. :(

Twitter is the future. I see it no differently than putting out a press release, which I'm sure the publicist did as well.

I really like Twitter.

The news reached a ton of people by announcing it that way. I'm sure many, many of her supporters were on Twitter and subscribed to her.

I wish her peace.

I don't really have a problem with it, and I feel the same if a death was announced on Facebook. I feel like a PP in that it's just another method of communication like tv or radio.

I would imagine it was announced in all ways: press release, etc. etc. Twitter is just a new form of communication, no better or worse than any other.

Communication.

The 100,000 year evolution of human communication... culminating in impersonal 140-character texts posted on Twitter. :rotfl2:

Maybe Epcot should make this the final scene in Spaceship Earth? Walter Conkite would be proud.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Her battle with cancer has been in the public media (TV, news, magazines online etc), the announcement of her death would also be.
