Hi

Husband and I are serious (if you can be!) mini/crazy golf fans... we might even get a LITTLE bit competitive!

I have been addicted since early trips to the US, as a child or about 6 or 7, with my parents in the early 80s. So get your kids hooked young ;)

We have been to a few in Orlando: Wintersummerland, Fantasia Gardens and a few others. This time we will be staying in Reunion, so would particularly love to know of some good ones not TOO far from there.

So please post some names/locations of great mini/crazy golf places here :)

Thanks,
Boo

Sorry, no suggestions but can I send DD (7) away with you when you go?

She absolutely adores mini - golf ;)

Only if she has the endurance to play at least one game a day... :)

When we have kids, it will definitely be a required skill... reading, writing, maths, swimming, playing mini-golf... all incredibly important life skills! ;)

hmm don't know of any in that area, but my favourites are the Pirates Cove next to Old Town on the 192 and the Hawaiian (sp??) Rumble by Ponciana, really cool! We love to play mini golf late at night after a nice BIG meal! :)

'Fraid one seems to be the absolute minimum ;)

Not sure where she gets the 'minimum requirement' from as both DH, and myself, have to grit our teeth to swing (no pun intended.... ;) )

Be certain to let us know of any 'must haves' you're recommended... :sunny:

we have only done the Disney ones Wintersummerland and Fantasia Gardens

we seem to do Fantasia Gardens on our last day before we head to the airport , this one would be my favourite
and if you are AP holders you get it for half price :thumbsup2

I haven't done it for years, but Pirate's Cove on the 192 (mentioned above) was really good fun :)

Recently I have only done Winter-Summerland and Fantasia Gardens though.

we done 2 different mini golfs on i drive. 1 was right accross the road from holiday inn i drive and it had gators all aver the place(small ones) which you could feed, My kids loved it. Buy a copy of simon vs book and it will put you on the right track.

We've been to the Disney ones but our favourite is the Pirates Cove mini golf @ Crossroads.

We're of the same mind Boo Boo Too. DW and myself ALWAYS play a number of rounds of mini-golf while we're in Florida, and even have a little trophy for the winner!

As we normally stay on International Drive, I can only comment on courses in this area, plus the ones at Disney. I did a quick review of all the ones I've played on for another website, so I'll reproduce it here.

There's a mark for the condition of the course (what sort of repair it's in), the quality of the theming and its difficulty out of ten. A low difficulty isn't necessarily a good thing - for example a "2" is incredibly easy and is probably only worth going to if you're with young kids. Us serious mini-golfers need at least a "6" to feel a challenge! However, a "9" is VERY difficult - possibly too much even for me!

Putting Edge (in Festival Bay shopping mall at top end of I-Drive):
Indoor, in the dark course, all lit up by flourescent and neon lights. Very clever design, but the course itself isn't up to much. Lots of long straight putts, not many slopes or obstacles to liven it up.
Condition: B | Theming: A- | Difficulty: 3

Congo River Rapids (two locations on I-Drive, best one is near Wet 'n Wild):
African themed course with baby alligators to feed outside. Two courses, one slightly harder than the other, both in very good condition.
Condition: A- | Theming: B- | Difficulty: 5/6 (depending on which course you choose).

Pirates Cove (mid I-Drive, near Mercado):
It's the one with the big pirate ship in front of it! One of the original Orlando mini-golf experiences, but showing its age and needing a refurb. Still great courses though. Hard one is a lot more difficult than the easy; seen a lot of young kids get frustrated by it considering the other course isn't too tough. Fine for us adults though!
Condition: C | Theming: B | Difficulty: 4/7 (depending on which course you choose).

Hawaiian Rumble (mid I-Drive, just before the Pointe):
The newest one on the block with a giant volcano to boot. Only played one of the two courses, but both looked fairly similar. However, it is more expensive than the rest.
Condition: A (it's new after all!) | Theming: B- | Difficulty: 5

Winter Summerland (Walt Disney World, just outside Blizzard Beach):
As you would expect from Disney, two superbly themed courses, but clearly designed with kids in mind. Balls tend to roll towards the hole and a good player will get lots of holes in one. Not that that's a bad thing mind...
Condition: B | Theming: A | Difficulty: 2

Fantasia Gardens (Walt Disney World, near Swan and Dolphin hotels):
Themed to the movie of the same name, there are two VERY different courses here. The Gardens course is standard mini-golf and is done quite well, though a few holes need a bit of a touch up. The Greens course is more like real golf with bunkers and rough and the like. Having played this, I found it very frustrating and will stick to the other course from now on!
Condition: B- | Theming: A- | Difficulty: 5/9 (depending on which course you choose).

There is another on I-Drive I haven't been to yet - Tiki Island. This is near Congo River and is themed like Hawaiian Rumble apparently.

If I could only play one, I'd probably choose Congo River, but personally I'd play a best of five series and experience as many as possible!

Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone! Especially steve_rob, who is obviously a seriously professional mini-golfer - I really appreciate your detailed reviews: VERY useful :)

Have been to at least one (maybe two) of the Pirates Cove ones before and one of the Congo River Rapids (yes, I do remember it being very good). Haven't been to Hawaiin Rumble - so that is DEFINITELY one to check out. Definitely fancy going back to Congo River and maybe Fantasia Gardens (to fit in a Disney one...).

steve_rob, you are right, you need a certain level of difficulty - otherwise it just gets TOO easy...

We are only there for four days, but definitely want to fit in a few games... as you say "best of 5" (unless I am loosing, then "best of 7" etc.etc...).

We are off to LA for a week after out cruise, you don't know of any good courses there too do you steve_rob? We seem to struggle a lot more to find good courses in California :(

Haven't played a course in California yet. I know there's some out there because I looked on Yellow Pages and it found two within 10 miles of Disneyland, but unlike in Florida, they don't seem to be in the touristy places.

Apart from Orlando, the only other time we normally get to play is during a trip to the seaside in the UK - you'll always find a course there!

We have our regular (near where the 57 Freeway intersects with the 91 Freeway - not far from Disneyland), but have probably done it two or three times a year over the past 10 years... so like a bit of a change.

We have also done one closer to Disneyland, BUT it was VERY similar to our regular, but with a lot more "secuity" (gates, barbed wire etc)... you got the impression that the area was not good (especially a night). That sort of put us off quite a bit...

All in all, I think miniature gold is very "samey" in California and there isn't much of it to start with.

Hmmm, but those are a HUGE let down after the ones in Florida: naf theming, lack of imagination regarding course design and often very poor up keep :(. Went to one on the Isle of Wight a few weeks ago: good for a "mini-golf fix", but very "below par" in relation to the US ones...

I am planning on doing Fantasia Gardens next trip

I have only done the ones on I-Drive before and Pirates Cove was good

We enjoyed the Pirates' Cove mini-golf on I-Drive a few years ago. There were two 18 hole courses and we did both :)

Last December we did Fantasia Gardens in WDW and enjoyed it, although it wasn't as imaginative as Pirates' Cove.

We hope to try the Winter Summerland courses next trip :)
