Favourite holiday haunt has gone downhill!!

I live in Cornwall and am upset at the bad press Newquay has been getting. It is a party place but to be honest it has always been that way. In all fairness it is no different to many other similar places in the UK. In the main part it is still a beautiful place but is very touristy - something which is not down to local people. There are many other beautiful places in Cornwall which are very family orientated, my favourite being Perranporth.

I love Cornwall and Newquay is okay during the day, we liked going to the beach and watching the surfers. The town was nice and the ground train was fun to take DD on, we had a nice day there. I wouldn't base ourselves there for a whole holiday though as there is nicer places in cornwall.

I think Cornwall is a lovely part of the country - my uncle lives in Helston but it's a bit of a drive from the Midlands.;) I am planning on going to south-west Wales next summer. I was thinking of Tenby but I might check out Pembroke too!

We've usually managed to do both in the same hol along with other places, lots of fun little villages around to wander and window shop or buy buckets and spades for the beach!! :goodvibes Oh and loads of places for cream teas, our favourite place being the Olde Worlde Cafe in Bosherston, just perfect after a day at Barafundle Bay or walking in the area :) The owner is 87 and still opens the place up every morning :) She was just awarded an MBE this year: http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/item.php?id=47917

Sounds idyllic - just what I'm after. How could anyone resist a place called Barafundle Bay?:goodvibes

I agree, Newquay has always been the Ayia Napa of the UK, if you want quiet and untouristy head for St Ives, Sennen, Porthcurno or The Lizard

I got to go to St Ives a few months ago and i was blown away by it, so pretty and plenty to do. And it was a great spot to go exploring further, Lands End for example. I had never realised how beautiful Cornwall was until then and i would love to go back for a proper holiday.:goodvibes
