At the Plaza Inn character breakfast. The GF Waffles are OUTSTANDING. You get pampered and taken care of.

We had great sandwiches at the Jolly holiday!

Please read the GF super thread (noted above), it has a TON of information.

At any of the self serve or full service restaurants, just tell them you have a "food allergy" and a cook will come out and ensure you are taken care of. The servers ALWAYS react to allergy, but look confused if you say celiac.

The teriyaki bowl at Fortune Cookery in DCA (OMG!!!) and anywhere I can get french fries. It used to be a cheeseburger and fries at Carnation Cafe, but posters have said recently that they no longer have GF fries, so it's Hungry Bear for me now. Rancho Zocalo is good if you're in the mood for Mexican. The breakfast at Steakhouse 55 is really good.

I'm beyond thrilled that I keep hearing this teriyaki bowl is safe!! I have not met any restaurant that can give me good Chinese! I almost don't believe it LOL

Can I add a question to this thread? It appears that most places are accommodating, can make something safe. Has anyone come upon a place that there is nothing to eat? I hate having to ask what I can eat, but then to have 'nothing' that I can eat is horrible. We travel with 5 kids, I'd just not eat instead of finding another place to eat. Would be nice to avoid the "we don't have anything safe for you to eat" problem.

We had a great lunch at Cafe Orleans! I had the N'awlins Vegetable Ragoût with Blackened Chicken, while my wife had a Monte Cristo (have to plan ahead to get it gluten free). Both were outstanding!

Blue Bayou was aces our last couple trips for our GF family member and her favorite. She loved the rolls and the chef came out to talk to her about creating a meal just for her that not only met her allergy criteria but was something she actually wanted to eat (she's a combo GF-dairy allergy). Her meal was better than all of ours (which were pretty excellent)! It just takes patience.

The only place I was told flat out 'no' was Harbour Galley (over by HM). I was under the impression that their baked potato was GF and was told 'no'. I didn't push the issue as they were busy. I found out later that they were dead wrong. However, I think the menu has now changed so I'm not sure of the GF status of their current offerings.

That being said, there ARE places where, picky eater that I am, they just don't have anything GF I like. Bengal BBQ, for example, only has a GF asparagus skewer….yuck! And I think it'd be hard to get anything at the place by Golden Horseshoe as the menu is all breaded and fried stuff. What I do is try to peruse the posted menu and pick at least two offerings that look good and appear to be easy to convert to GF. For example, I wouldn't choose fried chicken on a menu and just hope they can do it GF (they can't). I might pick out a burger and a sandwich because most QS/CS places have GF buns.

So for QS and CS first look at a posted menu and see if there are things you think can be easily 'converted', then just walk up to the first CM you see and ask 'Can you accommodate gluten free?'. Chances are you'll be told 'yes' and will talking to a chef pretty early on. For a 'sit-down' TS place, I will guarantee you that you WILL be accommodated and treated to a very delicious meal!!
