Favorite/Worst Resort

Hmmm....I truly love all the DVC's I've been lucky enough to stay in.

I guess my least favorites so far are SSR and OKW...ONLY because I don't LOVE separate buildings. I like interior "hotel" like amenities.

But I love OKW because of large rooms, Olivia's, laid back atmosphere, etc.

and I love SSR for it's "upscale" atmosphere....awesome main pool and it's walking distance to all the buses for dinner at the resorts.

Haven't Stayed at the others yet.:thumbsup2

Well I have not styaed in a DVC resort yet..I will be staying at SSR in Oct and I know I will love it..I plan on staying at Boardwalk in May for our anniversary,we were married there :) so I know I'm going to love it there :)

And I know I will love AKL....I can't wait to try there as well.

1) VB, VWL and BC- (Locations, amenities, theming)

slight drop off to

2) BW and AK (fine resorts, don't love that Clown Pool though!)
ever so slight drop to

3) OKW (ideal for relaxing/non-park intensive stays, very quaint)

a substantial drop to

4) SSR (I just felt like I wasn't staying at Disney. Really didn't lie it at all.

HHI- This is the only one I haven't visited yet. I do believe I'll like it though.

OKW- Minuses: not a full-service resort, the neighborhood feel doesn't jazz me, no elevators, location, don't care for the separate buildings, all bus service.

How is OKW not a full service resort? :confused3

Resort selection is largely a matter of personal preference. We have enjoyed our stays at all of the resorts. Here is how we rank the DVC resorts

1. AKV / OKW

AKV: savanna/animals, theme (African thatched-roof, hewn-timber lodge in a savanna setting inspired by the historic expeditions of 19th century), concierge (sunrise and sunset safaris), possibly the best executed immersive theme on property and Jiko

OKW: style (condo), theme (Caribbean influenced, Key West style Victorian), value (points, dues, villa sizes), laid back atmosphere and Olivia's (particularly when eating outside), boat rentals for canals and DD lake

2. BCV / VWL

BCV: location (adjacent to Epcot, near Studios and Boardwalk), SAB, theme (early 20th century Mid-Atlantic "stick-style" seaside resort), 11 month booking for December to enjoy CP/Illuminations and a short walk home afterward, great selection of restaurants from Studios to Epcot and the resorts in between

VWL: theme (early 1900s railroad workers' lodge, pre-dating the adjacent grand National Park Service lodge), very relaxing, another great December (holiday decorations) or January (cool weather) resort, restaurants at WL with Poly and Contemporary nearby, on the lake (views and boat rentals) and boat transportation

3. VB: Atlantic beach resort with an OKW feel to it, very relaxing, and not too far from Disney

4. BWV / SSR

BWV: location along the "Boardwalk" and reduced point rooms, same great restaurant opportunities as BCV

SSR: location (near DD and OKW), great resort to walk around, restaurants (DD and proximity to Olivia's), theme (Turn-of-the-century (circa 1900) Upstate New York grand resort destination)

5. HH: Very nice resort and staff with fine restaurants within walking distance or a short drive, split resort (separate beach house) not as desirable as a single beach front property but is well executed, just too far (six hour drive) for an Orlando resident to go for golf, tennis and beaches

Favorite Resort is AKV: Love the theming and the total "eye candy". I just feel like I get lost there in total bliss. The lobby sometimes smells like meat too...mmm. The rooms are pretty too.

Least Favorite: SSR, our Home Resort! Just don't dig the whole vibe...and I am a golfer. I go to Disney for the theming and its kinda lacking. The "Saratoga Springs" theme seems like an afterthought to me.
The building just looks like an ordinary condo, could have just as easily named it Suburban Sprawl Resort.

Wasn't too impressed with BCV either. Too many pastels.

My favorite is BCV by far. it has a great location, great pools, fantastic atmosphere, and of "Art" at the front door!! by the way i heard he was not well. anyone know more?

Favorite, hands down - OKW

I like the detached buildings, when we vacation as a family we generally look for stand alone rentals or homes or cabins.

I've stayed at all of the resorts, except HH and SSR. The decor of SSR does not lend itself to my family's style and one day perhaps, my vacation will coincide w/ the 7 month window for HH (I would love to go there and have tried 2x before, unsuccessfully)

I love AKL but not AKV, the decor of the villas, for me is too dark (the Kitchen cabinets, eek!) Shame because we love the savanah!

First choice - A tie for BCV & VWL. The theming and the short walk to Epcot from BCV, and the boat ride to MK from VWL are hits for us.

Second place - BWV and probably AKL. I didn't think I'd like the circus theme of BWV, but ended up loving the place. The location between Epcot and the Disney Studios can't be beat, and the view of the canal was great. As for AKL, we've only stayed at the hotel, but liked it a lot.

OKW didn't do much for us when we stayed there, and although I wouldn't turn a free trip down, SSR. Nothing wrong with them, they just didn't seem as themed as the others.

Honorable mention to VB - we love it there!

It's so interesting to read everyone's opinions..................and confirms that there really is something for everyone!!!!
OK, of the places that I have stayed these are my favourites in order:

1) OKW: Just love being able to drive right up to the villa, the peace and quiet, the huge rooms, the quiet pools and feeling as though we have our own little house!!! Just so relaxing!!!

2) Vero Beach: Again, lovely big units, light and airy and we had an amazing sea view! Love being on the beach!

3) Hilton Head Island: This would be higher but hate spending so much of my holiday in the car driving to a destination! Once there cannot fault it, laid back and relaxing, hubby loves the golf and the loaction on the waterfront. The only down side for me is that it is not on the ocean

4) Boardwalk: Love the location and being able to walk everywhere.............but on our last visit felt that it was in need of some refurb and the atmosphere was not great. Hopefully things will improve.

Have never stayed at Wilderness Lodge or Animal Kingdom..............but hubby hates 'dark' and being 'isolated' so I'm guessing that these would not be a hit!!!!
Have been to Saratoga to have a look round and would not choose to stay there. Felt it was just too big, too spread out, no feeling of community or theme really.

Hope to stay at Beach Club Villas soon............am sure we will love these!!!

Here's our vote:
Favorite - AKV - The most unique resort experience in the world.
Worst - BWV - For some reason we just didn't connect with the resort. The hallways creeked (probably part of the theme) and we weren't crazy about the room deocr (mostly, personal preferences).

It is about personal preferance which I think is great.

My favorite is our home BWV. I like the decor, I like the proximity to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, and it just feels right. Even with the long hallways and trust me we've been at the end of some of them. :lmao:

Least favorite is VWL. Too dark for my tastes and we had a not so great experience there.

Loved Beach Club and we'll be staying there again in September.

Enjoyed both Vero and Hilton Head and I can see going to both of these again.

Really enjoyed OKW as well and I can see us staying here again.

SSR - haven't stayed there yet but we've toured it and I can see us staying here in the future.

AKV - haven't stayed here yet but we have toured the models. I'm sure we might try it at some point but it isn't on the must do list for me. Again too dark for my tastes.

I will only make this comment now because no one owns there yet. But I am not impressed at all with BLT (Contemporary). What makes DVC special is the theaming. This just looks like a Maimi condo complex to me. Yes the location is great, but not enough for me to overlook the sterile cold look of this Condo complex. No thanks! It's an eyesore.

I felt exactly the same way about CR. But we did stay there once and it took on a whole new meaning to me. I loved the location, and I loved the views of Bay Lake. While we will never buy points there, we look forward to staying a night or 2.

1) VWL - Love the feel of the woods - the ability to walk around and away from the resort. Love the food. Love Bay Lake and the boat rides (best attractions as Disney in my book).

<sizable gap>

2) BWV - Love the pool. Love the ability to walk to two theme parks. Love the walkways around Epcot resort area. Like the theme.

<smaller gap>

3) BCV - Love the neighborhood. Like the pool.

All others - incomplete as I've never stayed in them. The condo-style of OWK and SSR doesn't appeal. Vero doesn't appeal as a beach destination. And while HHI seems like a great resort, it's just too hard to get there.

EDIT - Totally forgot about AKV. Haven't stayed there because it's too new, but I'm looking forward to a trip once Kidani opens. I suspect I'll go bonkers due to the inability to walk anywhere. But we'll see.
