Favorite wines

Forgive me if this has been done recently, but I have been away from the boards a bit.

The last couple of cruises, we have done the premium wine package. Our favorite wine on that list is the Fess Parker Chardonnay. We also like the two Robert Mondavi white wines and the iron horse fairy-tale cuvee.

I know wine preference varies greatly according to personal taste. Thought it would be fun to see where everyone's taste lies. Who knows, maybe it will encourage us to try a new one or two.

So I will cast the first vote for that frontiersman turned wine-maker, Fess Parker, and his wonderful Chardonnay.

Ironhorse Faire Tale cuvee is the only way to go. We recently visited the winery in Northern California and had a great chat with the winemaker. Lots of fun. We brought a bottle home from our cruise last year and still haven't come up with the right occasion to open it.

We have had a bottle each year (3 cruises on the Magic) while dining at Palo.

We also recently stopped by the Fess Parker winery. I will admit that they have good stuff as well.

Is the Ironhorse Faire Tale cuvee what is included in the REAS gift basket in your stateroom? I'm hoping so .. otherwise I might have to break down and buy a bottle for our Palo night.

We love the Iron Horse Fairy Tale as well..in fact..we brought home 4 bottles from our last cruise..and they are the 1997 vintage. We are saving them for a special occasion..and plan on purchasing more on our next cruise.

Susan..you can also try the fairy tale by the glass, most evenings during champagne and strawberries time in the lobby. We usually grab some then before dinner..lol.

I see you're in central Florida as well! We're north Clearwater and usually make it to Disney about twice a month. You'll be happy to know (or maybe you already do) that the Fairy Tale is also sold at WDW. Most of the restaurants have it by glass, bottle, or both. The majority of the resorts also see it by the bottle in their sundry shops.

We usually buy ours at the Contemporary for $27. A considerable savings over the DCL price.

You could start a business shipping Faire Tale Cuvee out to others, but I think Flordia is a state that doesn't allow shipping of wine to other states. I tried a number of years ago to have some shipped to me, but disney wouldn't do it.

Yes. That's why we just buy it onboard when we're on the ship. The corkage fee is $15 plus 15% gratuity for a total of $17.25. The total with the corkage fee would be $44.25.

Onboard the wine is $39 plus the 15% gratuity for a total of $44.85.

The difference wouldn't be worth the hassle of carrying the champagne onboard. But, if you want to enjoy the Fairy Tale in your room it may be worth bringing a bottle onboard.

DCL usually offers "Sparkling Moments" at various locations throughout the ship during the cruise. I've seen this in the Navigators for the Atrium, Promenade Lounge, and Sessions. Basically, they have a table set up and offer wines and champagnes by the glass. Often with a strawberry, cheese, or grapes!

Also, just an FYI for everyone, Fairy Tale by the glass runs $8.50. Moet White Star (also excellent!!!) runs $59 per bottle and $12.50 per glass.

I think you're right about the Fairy Tale! I could probably make a little profit! But, I think you're also right about the law. I know that Florida will not allow you to buy wine and have it shipped to you here but I think the same applies for exports out of the state as well. The Iron Horse and Fess Parker tours sound like fun. Where in California are they? And please don't say "wine country" because this midwesterner knows little about West Coast geography. We plan to do Disneyland in a couple years and would also like to hit San Diego to see the USS Midway (DW's father was aboard her during the Korean Conflict).

I assume the wineries are North of LA. Too far for a day trip?

Caymus Conundrum - white table wine from CA

It's a part of the premium wine package.

We first had it at the California Grill while visiting WDW. Really, really nice white. I've even found it in some wine stores and quite a few other fine restaurants in NYC.

Ironhorse is above Sonoma which would be about a 7 hour drive from LA. Fess Parker is a little past Santa Barbara - about a 2 hour drive (more or less) from LA. There are several wineries in the area of Fess Parker - Firestone and Curtis are right next door.

Fess Parker is a little past Santa Barbara - about a 2 hour drive (more or less) from LA. There are several wineries in the area of Fess Parker - Firestone and Curtis are right next door.

There are several nice wineries in Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez. I went on a wine tasting birthday party (we visited 4 wineries) in the Santa Barbara area. I loved Firestone and Fess Parker and honestly....I don't remember the name of the other two. I probably had a LITTLE too much to drink by then. The Firestone Vineyard is really beautiful (didn't the Bachelor guy come from this Firestone family?) and is a nice spot to have a romantic lunch.

Yep, you are right! I am not a big fan of their wines, but DH buys a bottle of their Chardonney from time to time, as I am a big bachelor fan. He gets a kick out of that.

We're bringing a bottle of Stonechurch 1999 Vidal Icewine for our dessert wine @ Palos. I'll probably also bring along a bottle of the Stonechurch 93 reserve cabarnet sauvignon for the meal.
