Favorite wines seen only in EPCOT Stores??

This thread was inspired by DisOrBusts favorite wine thread. I didn't want to hijack the thread! I was interested in wines you've only seen in the stores of EPCOT. I'm sure some are available in some specialty shop somewhere in the US outside of Disney, but I'm looking for something not normally seen in the average liquor store/Trader Joe's type place. My wife and I both like Rieslings and will be buying something in "Germany." I thought I read somewhere that Schmitt-Sonne runs the store, which sounds good to me! :drinking1

Any other wine experts out there who know Epcot wines? Mrs U always has a glass at the French pavillion, but we've never shopped for bottles.

Most trips, my husband picks up a few bottles at the wine shop in France. I haven't noticed if they are always the same though. I'll ask. I do think he looks for dry roses there.

I had a favorite wine that I could only get at the French pavillion. I saved the last bottle I was able to buy in Feb 05. It was a 1997 Bourgogne Blanc from Lenotre. Sigh....they stopped carrying it in the store, and I haven't been able to find another distributor in the US.

I guess I'll have to find a new favorite!!

Sorry, he doesn't have the names although he think he usually buys the same wines. Chardonnays and roses but he must just recognize the label he wants.

He also said they are decently priced. :thumbsup2

Fun idea for a thread. I hope you get more responses.

We love the Fairytale cuvee from Ironhorse vineyard, this cuvee is exclusive to WDW. Most of the South African wine at AKL are also only found at WDW. I have Jiko's wine list around here somewhere if I can find it I will post some of our favorites.

Beaker,
Do they sell bottles at the gift shop at AKL? I was in there last year and didn't really notice. I wasn't really looking though.

Both DW and I love a good Reisling. Never thought of shopping for wine at WDW. Where in Germany is wine sold? Thanks in advance.

Chuck,
it's called the Weinkellar, and it's between the Sussigkeiten sweet shop and the Christmas store-Die Wiehnachts Ecke. The Unofficial Guide says it has "nearly 300 varieties of German wine from the vineyards of H. Schmitt Sohne." I think we've had 3, so there's plenty left to try!

Not Beaker, but when we stayed at AKL they had a whole corner of wines in the Mara. Didn't really notice any in the gift shop. If you're standing in the area where all of the food stations are facing the checkout - it's the corner on your right (unless they've moved things around)

Yes they do sell some of the African wines in the gift shop. They are right next to the checkout that is closes to the food. There is also a few whites that are in the frig section.

I am definitely not a wine expert, and am just starting to learn a little here and there so I have a couple of questions. I would like to buy a bottle (probably in France) while at Disney. I tend to enjoy Pinot Grigio and sometimes Chardonnay. I still get confused over which reds I like. Is there something relatively easy to remember that you could reccomend me trying that I can only get at Disney? Also - if you fly, how do you transport the wine back home? Just put it in your carry on luggage?

Thanks!

Carrie

I always write down a wine's name and producer, distributor if possible, and have had very good luck getting either my grocery store (Harris Teeter) or World Market (an import store) to order them for me. World Market has a wide variety of international wines as well as beers so they've only had to order for me once. :thumbsup2

Thanks a bunch! We'll try to put a dent in the remaining 297 and let you know. :drinking1
