We will be staying outside the Disney bubble for a few days doing other things - Knotts , Six Flags, Universal, LA etc. So what are some places we need to check out?? We heard that Howlin' Rays chicken is a must try. Anything else?? Family pretty open to trying new places but not into seafood. Any good brunch buffets? Dessert places (I'm a great baker so I always like to get new ideas and I love ice cream and gelatto). Thanks :drinking1

I'm only going by what I've tried

Fast food:
In-n-out Burger
Portillos (near Knotts)
Dog Haus (one close to WB studios, but there are others)

I also like "The Habit" restuarants, but I've heard some people be negative about it.

Other options: Every restaurant we were at in Newport Beach and Huntington Beach was excellent, maybe we got lucky. These are also great beaches.

Mel's diner in hollywood
Tam O'Shanter restaurant has lots of Disney and showbiz history (Walt ate there, etc.)

Bob's Big Boy (there are still a couple around in los angeles, has a long history)

Last November my daughter and I tried The Taco Stand in San Diego and we liked it soooo much we went again in La Jolla. There is one in Orange County, I mapped it at 12minutes from Disneyland.
This place is amazing. They made the tortillas in house, they have a salsa bar you can help yourself to and the meat is marinated and grilled to order so everything is super fresh and honestly so delicious.
I'm trying to figure out how to go back just to eat this food again!

In-n-Out has been mentioned. Another great place that I've hit my last couple of times in LA is Ike's Love and Sandwiches. There are quite a few locations (though not as prolific as In-n-Out), ans soem have exclusive sandwiches. The Dutch Crunch bread is a must get!

If you're ever near Rowland Heights or Temple City (there may even be one in Anaheim), Ajisen Ramen is the best Ramen I've ever had, hands down.

:love:Taco Stand. Wish they would expand further north.

In OC, we like Heritage BBQ in SJC. It is very popular with a long line, so it isn't a quick meal. We also like Hanuman Thai.

In LA, you might check out Grand Central Market. Lots of fun things to try there. We also like Daughter's Deli and Lunasia.

Our favorite places to eat around the area (we are local though):
  • Tony's Little Italy (Placentia, maybe 20 minutes away from Disneyland) - Chicago pizza and other yummy pasta dishes. Both the thin crust tavern style and deep dish pizzas are so good.
  • The Habit - like someone above, we really like it. Much better than In n' Out in our opinions
  • Portillos - near Knotts Berry Farm. Different taste of Chicago!
  • Houston's - we go to the one in Irvine but there are other locations

The Habit is good and has been voted best burger many times. Prices are fair as well. Bob’s Big Boy is my go-to whenever I fly home into Burbank airport
Tommy's Chili Burgers and The Hat are both awesome, although a bit pricy.
The Hat is great there’s one out by me. The portions are HUGE so you get your money’s worth

Heritage is awesome! Bit of a wait and expensive but all BBQ is now. Worth the trip and SJC is a cool little town
I would recommend you check out Zankou Chicken. There's one in Anaheim, but a few others in SoCal.
Zankou is great but there are many other places with good just as good if not better. I went to one in Santa Ana around the corner from the Observatory music venue that has the best shawarma wrap I’ve had in years!

With all due respect and as someone who spends every day in Malibu, paradise cove is overpriced and mediocre food. I recommend Malibu Seafood or Malibu Brewing Co.

Portos is good, there are a few of them around the LA area.

Anaheim Packing District is a fun place to go, lots of food options. We ate at the Blind Rabbit and Strongwater is a tiki type bar nearby that has some good food too.

Villains Brewing around the corner from packing district is good too.
