Favorite song lyric!

For all you show people! I grew up singing "Camelot". Here's the reprise....

I actually love all of the songs, though. Richard Burton, Robert Goulet and Elizabeth Taylor!

Each evening, from December to December,
Before you drift to sleep upon your cot,
Think back on all the tales that you remember
Of Camelot.
Ask ev'ry person if he's heard the story,
And tell it strong and clear if he has not,
That once there was a fleeting wisp of glory
Called Camelot.

Okay (not ok :p) here are some...........

GO, CUBS, GO

(written by Steve Goodman)

Baseball season's underway
Well you better get ready for a brand new day.

Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

They're singing ...
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

They got the power, they got the speed
To be the best in the National League
Well this is the year and Cubs are real
So come on down to Wrigley Field

We're singing now ...
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

Baseball time is here again
You can catch it all on WGN
So stamp you feet and clap your hands
Chicago Cubs got the greatest fans.

You're singing now ...
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

Okay...now I'm being serious.

This song came out when DH and I were in the process of relocating from Philly to Maine, and it was as if this song was written for me personally, because it summed up my feelings so well:

PHIL COLLINS

Take Me Home

Take that look of worry
I'm an ordinary man
They don't tell me nothing
So I find out what I can
There's a fire that's been burning
Right outside my door
I can't see but I feel it
And it helps to keep me warm

So I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind

Seems so long I've been waiting
Still don't know what for
There's no point escaping
I don't worry anymore
I can't come out to find you
I don't like to go outside
They can't turn off my feelings
Like they're turning off a light

But I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Oh I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind

So take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home, oh lord
Cos I've been a prisoner all my life
And I can say to you

Take that look of worry, mine's an ordinary life
Working when it's daylight
And sleeping when it's night
I've got no far horizons
I don't wish upon a star
They don't think that I listen
Oh but I know who they are

And I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind
Oh I, I don't mind
No I, I don't mind

So take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home
Cos I don't remember
Take, take me home, oh lord

Well I've been a prisoner all my life
And I can say to you
But I don't remember
Take, take me home...

I've always thought Barbra Streisand's Evergreen is one of the most beautiful love songs in the world, music and lyrics~

Love soft as an easy-chair
Love fresh as the morning air
One love that is shared by two
I have found with you
Like a rose under the April snow
I was always certain love would grow
Love ageless and evergreen
Seldom seen by two
You and I will make each night a first
Every day a beginning
Spirits rise and their dance is un-rehearsed
They warm and excite us Cause we have the brightest
Love, Two lights that shine as one
Morning glory and midnight sun

Time we've learned to sail above
Time won't change the meaning of
One love
Ageless and ever, evergreen.

Gina!! Great thread.
.........you brought a tear to my eye...my mom would play the Camelot soundtrack endlessly when I was a child! And My Fair Lady too:

All I want is a room somewhere
far away from the cold night air
With one enormous chair
AOW wouldn't it be loverly???

Not Steely Dan this time, but these lyrics are from way back then too. I've always really liked this one...

Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

They say Spain is pretty though I've never been
Well Daniel says it's the best place that he's ever seen
Oh and he should know, he's been there enough
Lord I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much

Daniel my brother you are older than me
Do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal
Your eyes have died but you see more than I
Daniel you're a star in the face of the sky

Daniel is travelling tonight on a plane
I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain
Oh and I can see Daniel waving goodbye
God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes
Oh God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes

Mine, too, Ann. I grew up on Beatles, Stones and SHOW TUNES!

Hmmmm......howzabout.....for love songs.....Against All Odds....

How can I just let you walk away,
Just let you leave without a trace,
When I'm standing taking every breath,
With you, ooohhh,
You're the only one who really knew me,
At all.

How can you just walk away from me,
When all I can do is watch you leave,
Cause we shared the laughter and the pain,
And even shared the tears,
You're the only one who really knew me at all.

So take a look at me now,
There's just an empty space,
There's nothing left here to remind me,
Just the memory of your face,
So take a look at me now,
There's just an empty space,
If you're coming back to me it's against all odds,
And that's what I've got to face.

And just so you know I'm not taking this all too serious.....

This was a hit in Scotland when my Dad was growing up....

It's called (are you ready for this?)....

Donald Where's Your Troosers?

I've just come down from the Isle of Skye,
I’m no very big and I'm awful shy,
And the lassies shout when I go by,
" Donald where’s your troosers."

CHORUS:
Let the wind blow high, let the wind blow low,
Through the streets in my kilt I'll go,
And all the lassies shout hello
Donald where'syour troosers.

A Lassie took me to a ball
And it was slippery in the hall
And I was feart that I would fall
Fur I hadnae on ma' troosers

Chorus

I went down to London Town
And I had some fun in the underground
The ladies turned their heads around
Saying "Donald where's your troosers".

Chorus

To wear the kilt is my delight
It isna wrong, I know its right
The islanders would get a fright
If they saw me in the troosers

Chorus

They'd like to wed me everywan
Just let them catch me if they can
You cannae tak’ the breeks aff a Hielan’ man
And I don't wear the troosers

breeks, by the way, are pants!

I always relate a song....especially one from the past...with a certain memory or a certain place. You guys have made me smile with a lot of these songs tonight! :D

Let me just add that I do NOT have any personal experiences to remember with "Donald Where's Your Troosers?"

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Smile some more, Gail! Add a tune so we can smile with you!!!

BERNIE!!!! LOL LOL LOL LOL!!!!

Daniel and THEN Donald????

I always loved Daniel too, Bernie. I think everyone had a "Daniel" in their life - for me, it was my older cousin Johnny Chase who went to VietNam and came back a changed and emotionally scarred man. :( I can never hear that song without crying, especially since Johnny took his own life in the late 70's. :(

On a happier note, two of my favorite Little Feat songs:

You've got to put on your sailin shoes
Put on your sailing shoes
Everyone will start to cheer
When you put on your sailin' shoes

And:

My baby called me up
She said, "Why don't you ever take me out?
Pick me up in your brand new car
You shake the short change from your old fruit jar"

I put on my dancin' shoes
We headed straight for the rhythm and blues
The music was hot, but my baby was not

I've got a rocket in my pocket...

:)

I was just gonna ask you about that, Gail!!!! ROTFLOL!!!:p :p :p

Isn't it amazing how so many memories, happy and sad, can be encapsulated in the memory of a song? Sometimes hearing a song puts me right back into a moment.....

I know this song has been played to death, but I really love it....

Creed

Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding to all I think is safe
It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape
I yelled back when I heard thunder
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

Well, since someone said show tunes.....

from Hello Dolly:

Before the parade passes by, I'm gonna go and taste Saturday's high life.
Before the parade passes by, I'm gonna get some life back into my life.
I'm ready to move out in front. I've had enough of just passing by life.
With the rest of them, with the best of them, I can hold my head up high!
For I've got a goal again,
I've got a drive again,
I'm gonna feel my heart coming alive again, before parade passes by.

Look at that crowd up ahead, listen and hear that brass harmony growing.
Look at that crowd up ahead. Pardon me if my old spirit is showing.
All of those lights over there seem to be telling me where I'm going.
When the whistles blow, and the cymbals crash, and the sparklers light the sky,
I'm gonna raise the roof,
I'm gonna carry on, give me an old trombone, give me an old baton,
before the parade passes by.

LOL Don't you find it a wee bit strange that a Scotsman is talking about trousers when he is wearing a kilt?!?!?:teeth:

Congrats on starting a great thread, Gina! Geez, I am gone for a day and look what happens! :yo-yo:

I love this one from James Taylor. It always makes me picture myself going through life on a roller coaster.

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.
Any fool can do it, there ain't nothing to it.
Nobody knows how we got to the top of the hill.
But since we're on our way down, we might as well enjoy the ride.

The secret of love is in opening up your heart.
It's okay to feel afraid, but don't let that stand in your way.
Cause anyone knows that love is the only road.
And since we're only here for a while, might as well show some style. Give us a smile.

Isn't it a lovely ride? Sliding down, gliding down,
try not to try too hard, it's just a lovely ride.

Now the thing about time is that time isn't really real.
It's just your point of view, how does it feel for you?
Einstein said he could never understand it all.
Planets spinning through space, the smile upon your face, welcome to the human race.

Some kind of lovely ride. I'll be sliding down, I'll be gliding down.
Try not to try too hard, it's just a lovely ride.
Isn't it a lovely ride? Sliding down, gliding down,
try not to try too hard, it's just a lovely ride.
The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.

I love this oldie too....

I have a mansion but forget the price
Ain't never been there, they tell me its nice
I live in hotels, tear out the walls
I have accountants pay for it all

They say I'm crazy but I have a have a good time
I'm just looking for clues at the scene of the crime
Life's been good to me so far

My Maseratti does one-eighty-five
I lost my license, now I dont drive
I have a limo, ride in the back
I lock the doors in case I'm attacked

I'm making records, my fans they can't wait
They write me letters, tell me I'm great
So I got me an office, gold records on the wall
Just leave a message, maybe I'll call

Lucky I'm sane after all I've been through
I cant complain but sometimes I still do
Life's been good to me so far

I go to parties sometimes until four
It's hard to leave when you can't find the door
It's tough to handle this fortune and fame
Everybody's so different, I haven't changed

They say I'm lazy but it takes all my time
I keep on goin' guess I'll never know why
Life's been good to me so far

Isn't it amazing how so many memories, happy and sad, can be encapsulated in the memory of a song? Sometimes hearing a song puts me right back into a moment.....
This one always makes me think of going to a certain restaurant with my dad...and playing it on the juke box every time we did.
He died when I was quite young yet whenever I hear this song I always smile.

Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff, oh
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.
Puff, the magic dragon, lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee.

Together they would travel on boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name, oh

A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys
Painted wings and giants's rings make way for other toys.
One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane.
Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave
So, Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave, oh
