mother mother ocean , i have heard you call, wanted to sail upon your waters since i was three feet tall, youve seen it all, youve seen it all

From the song "Faith of the Heart" now being used as a theme song for the TV show Enterprise...

It's been a long road, getting from there to here.
It's been a long time, but my time is finally near.
And I can feel the change in the wind right now. Nothing's in my way.
And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna hold me down.

We liked it soo much that we used it at our wedding.

I used to work for a company that basically is EVIL. They harrassed me for 6 years and because of them I suffered from Enviromental stress disorder and had to take 5 months to get my head back on straight.

They would ask the impossible of many managers in my position and fire anyone who spoke up, as thay did to me. We were the only non-union personel at each store and thay have now fired 6 out of 17 of us and are intimidating the others.

Ask me how many managers from other parts of the store have been fired...Out of hundreds----NONE!

When the day I got fired came, I heard this song in my head over and over again...It WAS my time.

I started a business of my own. I no longuer suffer from depression and I'M HAPPY!

I'm even helping another former co-worker get away from them. They fired a friend of mine who was 5 months pregnant and she miscarried. She sued them and won. She is now very glad to be out of there.

This song gives me strenght.

Another less meaningful one is...

You have to kick at the darkness till it bleads daylight...

from Lovers in a dangerous time...

This is one of my favorites. It's from the Standells and it goes out to all of my brother and sister Red Sox fans:

Dirty Water
THE STANDELLS
(Ed Cobb)

(spoken:)
I'm gonna tell you a story
I'm gonna tell you about my town
I'm gonna tell you a big bad story, baby
Aww, it's all about my town

Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles (aw, that's what's happenin' baby)
That's where you'll find me
Along with lovers, muggers, and thieves (aw, but they're cool people)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, you're the Number One place)
Frustrated women (I mean they're frustrated)
Have to be in by twelve o'clock (oh, that's a shame)
But I'm wishin' and a-hopin, oh
That just once those doors weren't locked (I like to save time for
my baby to walk around)
Well I love that dirty water
Oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Because I love that dirty water
Oh, oh, Boston, you're my home (oh, yeah)

Well, I love that dirty water (I love it, baby)
I love that dirty water (I love Baw-stun)
I love that dirty water (Have you heard about the Strangler?)
I love that dirty water (I'm the man, I'm the man)
I love that dirty water (Owww!)
I love that dirty water (Come on, come on) [fade]

What a great thread .... so many great tunes and lyrics mentioned
I think music is so powerful and many songs strike me in so many different ways ..... Gail I liked your choice of "Corner of the Sky" ..... I must admit I'm a showtune girl and have that album (and I mean album ;) ) It was a class play when I was in high school ......

One line that sticks with me is from a Mary Chapin Carpenter song called "The Hard Way" ....

"We've got two lives, one we're given and the other one we make...."

I try to remember that in those moments when I'm convinced the world is against me to remind myself that how I live and what I make of my life is up to me

And I've got to say that the filter on **** 'n span made me LOL !:D

One more - from Dan Fogelberg ......

Love when you can
Cry when you have to
Be who you must, It's a part of the plan
Await your arrival
With simple survival
And one day we'll all understand

If I could have written one song, it would be this one.

Sometimes When We Touch

( Dan Hill )

You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I'd rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you
On what you say or do?
I'm only just beginning to see the real you

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Romance and all its strategy
Leaves me battling with my pride
But through the insecurity
Some tenderness survives
I'm just another writer
Still trapped within my truth
A hesitant prize fighter
Still trapped within my youth

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

At times I'd like to break you
And drive you to your knees
At times I'd like to break through
And hold you endlessly

At times I understand you
And I see how hard you've tried
I've watched while love commands you
And I've watched love pass you by

At times I think we're drifters
Still searching for a friend
A brother or a sister
But then the passion flares again

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty's too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Roberta

The Eagles, Life in the Fast Lane:
"He was brutally handsome... She was terminally pretty"
I'd love to be thought of as "terminally pretty"!

Rick Springfield, Jessie's Girl:
"I wanna tell her that I love her, but the point is probably moot"
you gotta love a guy that can use "moot" in a popular song!

Gaia Consort, Every Sacred Thing:
"Big money makes the decisions, big money owns all the gods
And I can't help but laugh at the puzzled expression when I say I won't give to the cause.

Is it any wonder that our spirits cry - Is it wonder something inside us dies,
when we sanitize every sacred thing?

Paved over meadows for strip malls, or misguided notions of bliss
And I point to the universe shaking their shoulders, saying 'How can you need more than this?'"

John Denver, Poems and Promises:
"I've been lately thinking
About my life's time
All the things I've done
And how it's been
And I cant help believing
In my own mind
I know I'm gonna hate to see it end"

Elton John, Elderberry Wine:
"The bottle went round
Like a woman down south"

Neil Diamond, Forever in Blue Jeans:
"Money talks
But it don't sing and dance
And it don't walk"

Meat Loaf, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad:
"I want you, I need you, but there ain't no way I'm ever gonna love you
Now don't be sad, 'Cause two out of three ain't bad"

"But there ain't no Coup de Ville
Hiding at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box"

Stevie Nicks

You say i have everything
Well i'm living on dreams and chains
But i sing for the things money can't buy
You say you don't believe
Well could you just look at me
Look deep into my eyes my love
Well have you ever been in love
Have you touched the soul of someone
Did the fear inside you make you turn and run

Also by Stevie Nicks (used to love this song 13 years ago!)

No Questions Asked

When I see him, I feel him
There's an intensness
In him, in his eyes
He wants me to be with him
He wants me with him now

She just seems to be missing
How could that happen anyhow

So how can you say
Well I don't know what love is
You have it and you have no time for it
You feel completely indifferent
You feel pushed up against the wall
And then one day it just almost goes away
You spend lots of time alone
Sometimes you spend years
And you just miss those arms that used to go around you

Night after night
No questions asked and
Who cares, the cold wind of it all, everytime
Well it's hard to be civil and it's
Real hard to be nice
But you did it my love everytime

So how can you say well I can't see you
Not now, not tomorrow, not until it's right
Not until
None of us is pushed up against the wall
I don't know, the cold wind doesn't get you anymore

So today she says well I've changed my mind
That's a womans right they say
Well I'm frightened and I'm lost and I
Can't give you up, not now I need you now
I'm broken-hearted, broke down
Like a little girl
Well I need you now, well I'm broken hearted
Well I broke down, like a little girl

(I need you now no questions asked)
Well I broke down like a little girl
(i need you now no questions asked)
I broke down like a little girl
(need you now no questions asked)
I broke down like a little girl
Well like a little girl
(need you now no questions asked)
Like a little girl

This just blew me away when I heard it

"Run To Me": Clay Aiken

Don't, You don't have to save my life
No, You're not ready I can feel it
Outside it's raining, but I'll just go home
Someday your heart will let him go.

As soon as you get that feeling
You can start to live again
As soon as the worst is over
You can make it all make sense
Rigt now I can't give you what you need
As soon as you get the feeling...
Run To Me.

Hush, You don't have to say a word.
Trust, I'm not going to hate you for it.
Feels like my touch only brings back the pain
Someday those memories will fade away

As soon as you get that feeling
You can start to live again
As soon as the worst is over
You can make it all make sense
Right Now, I can't give you what you need
As soon as you that feeling...
Run To Me.

This is a favorite of mine.

The Harder They Come by Jimmy Cliff

Well they tell me of a pie up in the sky
Waiting for me when I die
But between the day you're born and when you die
You know, they never seem to hear even your cry

Chourus:

So as sure as the sun will shine
I'm gonna get my share now what is mine
And then the harder they come
The harder they fall
One and all
The harder they come
The harder they fall
One and all

And the oppressors are trying to track me down
They're trying to drive me underground
And they think they have the battle won
I say, forgive them Lord, they know not what they've done

Chorus.

And I keep on fighting for the things I want
Though I know that when you're dead you can't
But I'd rather be a free man in my grave
Than living as a puppet or a slave

Chorus.

i really like the song suspicious minds by elvis, and i like every elton john song and i like simon and garfunkel....

What happened here
As the New York sunset disappeared
I found an empty garden among the flagstones there
Who lived here
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop
And now it all looks strange
It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain

And what's it for
This little empty garden by the brownstone door
And in the cracks along the sidewalk nothing grows no more
Who lived here
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop
And we are so amazed we're crippled and we're dazed
A gardener like that one no one can replace

And I've been knocking but no one answers
And I've been knocking most all the day
Oh and I've been calling oh hey hey Johnny
Can't you come out to play

And through their tears
Some say he farmed his best in younger years
But he'd have said that roots grow stronger if only he could hear
Who lived there
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop
Now we pray for rain, and with every drop that falls
We hear, we hear your name

Johnny can't you come out to play in your empty garden
