I like certain lyrics of songs. Not even the whole song.

Two of my favorites.....

"You've got to learn to live with what you can't rise above...." ~ Tunnel of Love ~ Bruce Sprinsteen

another....

"Is a dream a lie if it don't come true....or is it something worse..." ~ The River ~ Bruce Springsteen

Any lines that strike you?

(And I started a thread....man, is this stepping outside the box or what???? )

None that I can think of offhand, Gina, but I did have to comment and congratulate you for starting a thread. :p Great!!!!! Is this to celebrate the return of circus slim?? :teeth:

No, I'm liberated!

Ready to take on the CB!

(tee hee....how soon they forget!!!) :teeth:

Knock me over with a feather - Gina started a thread!

Ya caught me listening to an old favorite. Every tune a winner. It's Steely Dan's Katy Lied and Bad Sneakers

Five names that I can hardly
Stand to hear
Including yours and mine
And one more chimp who isn't here
I can see the ladies talking
How the times are getting hard
And that fearsome excavation
On Magnolia Boulevard

CHORUS:
And I'm going insane
And I'm laughing at the frozen rain
And I'm so alone
Honey when they gonna send me home
Bad sneakers and a Pina Colada
My friend
Stompin' on the avenue
By Radio City with a
Transistor and a large
Sum of money to spend

You fellah, you tearin' up the street
You wear that white tuxedo
How you gonna beat the heat
Do you take me for a fool
Do you think that I don't see
That ditch out in the valley
That they're digging just for me

CHORUS

Love Steely Dan! Saw them at the Lonestar Cafe years ago!

How about.....

Rikki don't lose that number
You don't wanna call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
Rikki don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better
When you get home

GINA!!!!! Great things are a happenin'!!!!! :teeth:

Do you remember that song from Mike and the Mechanics, The Living Years?

There's a verse that goes something like this:

I wasn't there that morning, when my father passed away,
I didn't get to tell him all the things I had to say
But I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard it echo
In my baby's newborn tear
I just wish I could have told him
In the living years.

I heard that song about a month after my daughter was born and about 7 months after my mother died. I was driving down the highway and burst into tears. That song still chokes me up.

Aren't glad you asked? :teeth:

Of course you did only ask for a line. Hmmm. I'll have to think.

Mr. Fagen sure wrote some pretty sneaky lyrics.

Don't mean to hijack your (rare) thread, Gina, but I'm enjoying some great Dan tunes tonight!

Not one of my all-time favorite songs...but I swear this song was written for a guy I used to know:

You walked into the party
Like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror
As you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

You had me several years ago
When I was still quite naive
Well, you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved
And one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

Well, I hear you went up to Saratoga
And your horse naturally won
Then you flew your Lear jet up to Nova Scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well, you're where you should be all the time
And when you're not, you're with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and

You're so vain
You probably think this song is about you
You're so vain
I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you? Don't you?

Way too many to name, but these lyrics from the Dead's Trucking pretty much sums up my life:

Sometimes the light's all shining on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long strange trip it's been

:)

I'm a huge Steely Dan fan as well. My favorite, Deacon Blues:

I'll learn to work the saxaphone
I play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whiskey all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
And I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

My back to the wall
A victim of laughing chance
This is for me
The essence of true romance
Sharing the things we know and love
With those of my kind
Libations
Sensations
That stagger the mind

(yada, yada, yada)

"Let me tell you something...Bustin' makes me feel good!!" (Ghostbusters theme) LOL :p :p

um...these are quite random and differ greatly...

The lyrics of "Last Kiss" (was a fan of Pearl Jam's remake)
The lyrics of "Dare You to Move" by Switchfoot
The lyrics of "Man, I feel like a Woman!" by Shania Twain :p
The lyrics of "Crazy Times" and "Flood" by Jars of Clay
The lyrics of "Let's Roll" by DCTalk
The lyrics of "Clocks" and "The Scientist" by Coldplay

Many many more I haven't mentioned, as well. :)

Oooooh!!! How about "All that Jazz" or "Cell Block Tango" now THERE are great lyrics!!! :p :p :p

LOL, Snoops! The Dead!

Truckin' is up there as an all time favorite!

Which reminds me of.....

And I been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me: weed, whites, and wine
and then you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'

Little Feat's Willin'!

And Steph.....You're So Vain! Wasn't that written about Mick Jagger? Are you hanging with the rich and the famous and didn't tell us????

All right Gina.....now you've got me singing!

There's a lyric from a song in the musical "Pippin" that I've always loved....it says a lot too. The song is "Corner of the Sky"

"Every man has his daydreams
Every man has his goal
People like the way dreams have
Of sticking to the soul
Thunderclouds have their lightning
Nightingales have their song
And don't you see I want my life to be
Something more than long....

Rivers belong where they can ramble
Eagles belong where they can fly
I've got to be where my spirit can run free
Got to find my corner of the sky

I love this song from Carousel:

When you walk through a storm
Keep your chin up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet, silver song of a lark.

Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone,

Feel free, Bernie. Sneaky is okay by me.....:teeth:

The first big hit I can remember from Steely Dan - and I still love it!

Your everlastin' summer, you can see it fadin' fast
So you grab a piece of somethin' that you think is gonna last
Well, you wouldn't even know a diamond if you held it in your hand
The things you think are precious I can't understand

Are you reelin' in the years, stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears, have you had enough of mine
Are you reelin' in the years, stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears, have you had enough of mine

You've been tellin' me you're a genius since you were seventeen
In all the time I've known you, I still don't know what you mean
The weekend at the college didn't turn out like you planned
The things that pass for knowledge, I can't understand

Are you reelin' in the years, stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears, have you had enough of mine
Are you reelin' in the years, stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears, have you had enough of mine

I spent a lot of money and I spent a lot of time
The trip we made to Hollywood is still etched upon my mind
After all the things we've done and seen you find another man
The things you think are useless I can't understand

Are you reelin' in the years, stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears, have you had enough of mine
Are you reelin' in the years, stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears, have you had enough of mine

I don't know why I'm feeling a little melancholy tonight, maybe it's the rain here- but the first two lines that popped into my head were:

1. Janis Joplin from "Me & Bobby McGee":
"Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose"

2. Garth Brooks from "the Dance"

"And now I'm glad I didn't know
the way it all would end, the way it all would go...
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain, but I've have had to miss the dance"

I'll come back later with something more upbeat ;)

This has always been one of my personal favorites:

She's a very kinky girl, the kind you don't take home to mother
She will never let your spirits down, once you get her off the street
She likes the boys in the band, she says that I'm her all-time favorite
When I make my move to her room it's the right time,
She's never hard to please

That girl is pretty wild now (the girl's a super freak)
The kind of girl you read about (in new wave magazines)
That girl is pretty kinky (the girl's a super freak)
I really love to taste her (every time we meet)
She's all right, she's all right, that girls all right with me, yeah, he-he-he
She's a super freak, super freak, she's super freaky, yeow
Everybody sing, super freak, super freak

;)

and my favorite love song lyrics...

Our Love is Here to Stay

It's very clear, our love is here to stay
Not for a year but ever and a day
The radio and the telephone and the movies that we know
May just be passing fancies and in time may go

But oh, my dear, our love is here to stay
Together we're going a long, long way
In time the Rockies may crumble, Gibraltar may tumble
They're only made of clay
But our love is here to stay
