Sorry if I am repeating a thread! I am curious what songs get you motivated when you are out there on those long sometime difficult runs. I cycle songs in and out but a few are always on my MP3. I like so many different genres but here ar a few of mine.

Van Halen- Right Now
Why Can't this be love?
Matthew West- Forgiveness
Frank Sinatra- Fly me to the moon
Taylor Swift- Never, Ever getting back together

What are yours???

Sinatra??!

OK, sorry as a former spin instructor I swore I would never dis a person's song mix. It can be very hurtful. I actually think Fly me to the Moon has a place in a song mix.

For me, I only run with music when I am struggling. Disney usually has enough distractions that I find I usually do not need the support. Saying that, my mixes are fairly hard 70's and 80's rock including ACDC, Zep, Black Sabbath, CCR. I also mix in fairly new stuff like Nickelback, LinkinPark, etc.

I play my class mixes... they are put together with no break between songs and attempt to maintain a constant beat through each mix....

I agree with this. I've brought my iPod to the 2 Disney races I've run and both times I haven't turned it on at all, so I'm going to leave it in the room this year.

Lately I've found that I like listening to music loops from the Disney parks on my long runs...I think it's a combination of "feeling like I'm there" :) and also not thinking of the run in 3-4 minute segments like I might with other songs since the loops are continuous for 30-60 minutes. On the treadmill it's a mix of alternative, pop, country...a bit of everything.

OP - I've got at least 3 of those on my playlist too (taylor swift & van halen)

Coach - for a former dancer like myself, old big band standards actually can be wonderfully motivating. Not only do I have sinatra (cheek to Cheek and Face the Music & Dance), but also Tony Bennett (Steppin out with my baby), Bobby Darin (Mack the Knife and Hello Dolly), Michael Buble's version of Moondance, and Harry Connick Jr's We are in Love. :thumbsup2

But mostly I have recent pop hits, a lot of Flo Rida, Kesha, Nikki Minaj, Fun, Gavin DeGraw, Karim, etc.

And then I have some of the good old 80s - MJ, Wham, Footloose, Van Halen, etc.

and Newsies. :)

I have stopped listening to music during races, and I can tell you what my least favorite song is, "Gangnam Style" :crazy2: They play that at every race these days and it does serve its purpose in speeding me up, to get far away from it! :lmao: On the treadmill, I love listening to Pandora. That way, I get a variety. They have so many stations to choose from or create, that it does make the time go by and you hear new things. I like all sorts of music so it is difficult to pick a favorite. I used to, but then I would get sick of those songs.

I am the opposite. I admit this freely: my marathon playlist looks like something a 16-year old girl might put together.

It's funny; for the most part I am very much into classic rock, alternative, and harder-edge stuff, but when I'm running I go completely the other direction into bubblegum pop, dance music, and hip-hop. I think I even have a OneDirection song in there somewhere.

The only races I've ever used music for are marathons. I don't bother with it for shorter distances.

I've got Sinatra too :) I've got his New York, New York set up in my playlist for my next race. It's completely different from the one I had for Princess. My favorite new song this time around is Edge of Seventeen, and just for fun I've thrown in some Mannheim Steamroller Christmas songs. It will be December after all.

I like to play Halfway There by Big Time Rush, a couple times at the 1/2 way point of the 1/2's I run. For me it's one of those songs I could play over and over and over and it's great for my running pace.

I know Sinatra; unusual huh?? My dad played in a big band for many years and I came to love big band and jazz.

Another favorite is STYX- Fooling yourself-live version!

I only listen to music if I'm on a treadmill, and even then, not all the time. These songs are always on my playlist when I do:

Disturbed - Indestructible
Avenged Sevenfold - Bat Country
Mudvayne - Scream With Me
Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized
Rise Against - Audience of One
Five Finger Death Punch - Hard to See
The Clash - London's Burning
Volbeat - Still Counting
Gogol Bordello - Immigradiana

I change my playlists often, but I only use my iPod on long runs. Anything shorter than 8 miles and I'm a "thinker" kind of guy. As for my current songs that seem like they get me going....

Family Force 5-"Cray Button"
Family Force 5-"Zombies"
LeCrae-"I Know"
Bruno Mars-"Locked Out of Heaven" song just reminds me of The Police
Benny Benassi-"Cinema" (Skrillex remix)
Nero-"Promises" (Skrillex remix)

I'm about to change that and add some other stuff and take a lot off. As much as I love Disney Park music, I've never tried to run to it. My brother in Texas turned me on to some great workout music though. There's a DJ called GIRL TALK that mashes up songs from the 80's, 90's and 2000's into clever, fast beats that are great for runs and working out.

I don't listen to music when I run, recently I've been listening to pod casts, right now I'm listening to Two Gomers Run for Their Lives (also 2 Gomers run a Marathon and Half Marathon) and some WDW pod casts to.

Sounds like me!!!!! Hahahaha!! I've got bieber, gaga, david guetta, jay-z, britney...But also michael jackson, outkast, g n r, the roots...

I'm a showtune fanatic and it's pretty much all I listen to. Here's a few of mine:

Dance, 10 Looks 3 from Chorus Line
Turn it Off from Book of Mormon
Man from Full Monty
Favorite Son from Will Rogers Follies
Let Me Drown from Wild Party
Merry Xmas, Maggie Thatcher from Billy Elliot
Overture/All That Jazz from Chicago
Deliver Us (technically not a show tune) from Prince of Egypt
You Can't Stop the Beat from Hairspray
Always Look on the Bright Side of Life from Spamalot

Whatever keeps you moving!!!!

I have a really crazy mix. Have to say "Pressure" by Billy Joel is great. Talks of pacing yourself. I like songs that seem to apply to me while I run. Thus, Bon Jovi's It's My Life (it's now or never, not gonna live forever!) and Eminem's Lose Yourself are in my run playlist more than once so they come up frequently.
