We are arriving late afternoon and would like to have dinner at one of the resorts our first day. Tell me where we should go, it is our first time and we will have an almost 2 and 6 year old.

Thanks,

For a 2 and 6 year old, I think they would most enjoy Chef Mickey's... there is nothing like it to get you in the Disney frame of mind. There are not too many resort character dinners, so you would have to choose between that and the new dinner with Cinderella at the Grand Floridian!

We have PS for the princess breakfast the next morning and PS for the Cinderella dinner at 1900 PF the following evening.

Thanks.

My favorite resort restaurants are the Flying Fish Cafe at the Boardwalk and Jiko at the Animal Kingdom, but if you're taking young kids with you, I think 'Ohana at the Polynesian is a much better bet.

'Ohana's with a fireworks view is really nice. However...

Another nice alternative we enjoy our first night is the Kona Kafe, which is also at the Poly. The atmosphere is relaxing. We enjoy the variety of food offered and have always enjoyed our meals. It's never been crowded when we've been there. Our children are now 3 & 5, and the atmosphere of the restaurant has usually had a soothing effect on them, rather than contributing to sensory overload!;) If you want to see the MK fireworks afterward, all you have to do is walk down to the beach area.

I'd skip Chef Mickey's with a two year old. Most kids handle the characters just fine but some are quite frightened. If your two year old turns out to be a "Big Mickey Is Going to Eat Me!" screamer, it will be a horrible experience, especially with everyone tired from traveling.

Where are you staying?

You can catch the fireworks at Narcoosees.
Spoodles at Boardwalk might be a good choice.
(both of these are a little more adult, but noisy and kid appropriate).

A lot of families like Whispering Canyon at the WL.

While it's not at a resort, you might try Rainforest Cafe, either at DtD or AK. No characters but the atmosphere and food cannot be beat. There are different themed areas in the restaurant with animals that "come alive" and of course, the occasional rainstorm!

Our kids absolutely loved it at 8, 5, 3, and 1. It's something we will probably make a staple of each visit from now on!

I reread your initial message in which you mention it's your first visit. My children are scared of the costumed characters (like Mickey, Minnie, etc.). When they were in the Rainforest, the youngest was really unnerved by the close proximity of one of the audioanimatronic apes. If you don't know how your children will react to characters, the princess breakfast ought to be a good ice-breaker. My children, though scared of MM, have always enjoyed human-looking characters.;-)

The good news is they are warming up to MM. Still need some warm-up time, but not as scared as they once were.
